In the US it's Thanksgiving and there will be families and friends gathered together to share in celebrations.
There might be a turkey and the traditional dishes on the menu
or possibly it will be a vegetarian or vegan feast.
It may be simple fare or a gourmet dinner.
You'll probably be dining inside in a heated home,
you might be the hostess or a guest.
Hunger is a something you might never know...
there will be food banks giving out groceries
and organized dinners provided by dedicated volunteers
feeding the homeless and those down on their luck.
Our simple table set for Thanksgiving last year.
However you celebrate I hope that you have an enjoyable day thinking thoughts of gratitude.
You could be volunteering in your community helping the under privileged,
even digging deep into your pockets to help
share some food with someone who is less fortunate.
It is always better to give than to receive....

Lovely tablescape. Happy Thanksgiving.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family, I feel like I know you all!
And to you, Hostess. Thank you.
Do you celebrate Thanksgiving ( in Canada ) at the same date as in USA? Sorry, I am all mixed up. So many holidays going on at different times all around.
And this brought me to what I also have thought about.
With all these feasts, what about the lonely ones.. It really must feel lonely being alone, even if there is food on the table, a self-bought gift to be opened.
Thanksgiving and Christmas are so family/friend focused events.
I wish we would remember the lonely ones too!
Metscan- my apologies if I confused you, we celebrate our Thanksgiving in October. I was sending wishes to those readers from the USA who are celebrating the holiday today. It would be lonely if one were alone for the holidays.
My sister is good at always including those that she knows who are alone and we meet new and different people when we dine at her home.
I think you have a huge amount of empathy.
Thank you for sharing this with me.
Thank you Leslie for the info. I got so interested, that I just had to google up Thanksgiving, and now I know.
I also know, that this Friday is Black Friday- the official start for the Xmas shopping season. The day, when the stores make their best profits, and I now know the origin of it too.
We don´t have so many " special days " over here. No harvest feast, no Boxing days either. X
Today when I came home from work there were two bags on the table, holding 30 packages of pasta. Now, my husband is well-known for loving bulk shopping - something that I abhor - but I was ashamed at my complaint when he said 'I thought that if I was buying pasta for us I should buy it for the food bank too'. Tomorrow morning the 30 packages go to the food bank shelves.
