Roses in The Humble Bungalow Garden are in the spotlight...these are just a few of the 30 + roses that we grow.

~ The Humble Bungalow Kitchen ~

The window ledge above the farmhouse sink
featuring the elegant vintage Japanese porcelain vase.
Darling Daughter found this and thought it would be perfect for our garden blooms.

The rose is Abraham Darby, a fragrant David Austin rose, grown in our garden.
It is one of my favourites!
Stay tuned.
More pictures of this gorgeous rose are coming up.

May and June are the best months for our garden roses.

A close up...
while waiting for my husband to back the car out of the driveway
I went in for a "sniff"
was I surprised
when as I got closer, there was a bee working, inside all the petals!

Fortunately I did not get stung, the bee was preoccupied.

I researched the local Recreation Centres for Aqua Fit Classes...
it all looks great on paper but one must actually attend and participate in person
to decide if it is a "good fit."

So I took the plunge, and I am happy to report that the class went very well.
My arthritic joints were not sore or painful during the class.
I was able to keep up
although I was often doing the movements opposite to the instructor!
(I looked around and I was relieved to see that I was not the only one.)

There was a large group of about 30 women in attendance
they obviously have been doing the class for quite awhile
as they were chatting before class started
signing a card in the change room for the instructor.
One particular woman went out of her way to say hi
she mentioned that foam dumbbells were used in class
so I put a pair on the edge of the pool where other women had set them down.

The instructor made the class FUN.
She had oodles of energy and was encouraging us to smile and laugh.
The hour passed quite quickly.

The next morning I didn't have much discomfort but was "aware" that I had used muscles not normally used when I walk.
The water is much more gentle on my joints than my regular walking.

I walked today,
only 3.2 km but my hips and low back hurt.
So I will be returning to Aqua Fit and aim to attend 2-3 times a week.
I am very pleased with the pool and the class.
Feeling very optimistic, excited, and hopeful after only one class.

My first Beach Read of the season ticked all the boxes...
While reading this book
my afternoon teatime and reading became longer and longer
(extending well into my dinner prep time)
as I made my way through the chapters.
I enjoyed Erin's colourful characters and interesting story
set in Nantucket.

Nantucket sounds idyllic...

If you are looking for a Beach read this is a good one!

We've got lots going on here socially...
so I thought that I had better get this written and published before I forgot.

Do you love to garden?
What do you grow?

We watched the last season of Ted Lasso...

Loved the series so much.

The writing was rich and deep
the characters were spot on
very funny, yet poignant
 quality entertainment.

Will now need to find another great series...
any suggestions perhaps?

"Still" the newly released documentary film with Michael J Fox
was brilliant.

It raised my awareness of Parkinson's disease...
I have a whole new respect for the disease Michael has,
how he is dealing with it, and the many challenges that he is facing.

He's a very brave fellow...
I wonder how he manages to be so stoic?

Obviously
a good support system and ample funds help with
the numerous medications, doctors and therapy.

Very little is known about what causes the disease.
There is a genetic connection in some cases...

Michael J Fox has set up a foundation and to date
the foundation has raised more than 2 billion dollars.

Speaking about raising money...
My husband and I are thinking about offering our garden for next year's tour.

The Hospice Fundraiser ~  Teeny Tiny Garden Tour

Mom was in Hospice the last few days of her life.
The staff were incredible and the facility, although old, was very cozy.
There was a family area, a small kitchen, and a beautiful rooftop garden oasis.
It would be a very worthwhile cause...

Well that's about it for now...
I appreciate all your comments.
You may have noticed that I respond with your name
but cannot link directly to your account.

Thank you for stopping by The Humble Bungalow Blog.
Hope you have a FUN weekend!

~ In The Pink ~ trying new things

Greetings from The Humble Bungalow!

I've made a conscious decision to try new things...
get out of my "comfort zone"
take a wee risk
do something different...

Walk a different route
try a new cafe
read a book in a genre that I usually dismiss as "not my style"
wear a new shade of nail polish
shop in a new food store
try a new tea
explore an area of town that is "new to me"
visit a beach off the beaten track
try a new lipstick
a flavour of ice cream
OR
chocolate?

~ so many options to consider when trying new things ~

~ Refreshing ~

Drinking lots of water (fluids) help to keep your skin supple.
Aim for 6-8 glasses a day.
(Partake in a Pear flavour.)

If you aren't a fan of plain water
try slicing fruits or lemons in a big jug of water and letting the flavours steep.
Add lots of ice and enjoy.

Have you ever heard the saying...

Pink Skies at Night
Sailors Delight
Pink Skies in the Morning
 Sailors Take Warning

We used to heed this advice when we were cruising on our boat.

Trying to keep my hands in better shape...
starting with a manicure
using
hand lotion and nail polish.

Cruelty Free Polish
~ Pink Cloud ~
My current favourite shade for a home manicure.

Extended Summer weather...
holding its own with warm sunshine and sunny skies.

Wearing sunglasses and a hat to minimize the risk of sun damage...
skin cancer and macular degeneration are risks from too much sun.

I enjoyed a much needed pedicure
and chose a bold shade Snow White.

I usually opt for a rich jewel tone but I am trying new things
just because...

The facial that I had in August at The Boathouse Spa at the Oak Bay Beach Hotel was amazing...my skin looked dewy and smooth for weeks after the service.

Babor European products are new to me.
So in the spirit of trying new things
I popped by the Spa to buy a couple of their products cleansing line.
Enzyme Cleanser and Rose Toner.

Hopefully they will live up to the numerous positive ratings by clients.

Pinky red Skies over Salt Spring Island as seen from our cottage on Pender.
There is a feeling of Fall in the air...
a cool fresh crispness that is hard to describe
you need to feel it!

Lovely Fall beach walk on Bricky Bay

My gentle walks along the seashore soothe and calm.
Searching for sea glass is a very meditative habit.

Trying to mix up my walks to get me more motivated.
When the weather cools I tend to want to cocoon inside and stay cozy...
I recently purchased a pre-worn soft velour jacket by the company 32 Degrees.
It is so warm and because it is black, it is dressier and more versatile.
Trying to buy fewer garments to be more mindful of waste
when I need something in my wardrobe
I will try to seek out second hand and vintage options.

My Sea Glass collection now fills about 7 large sealer jars.
I'll need to find some more vintage jars to take to the cottage
as I brought home yet another jarful.

What do YOU collect?

~ Pink Grapefruit Cleaner ~
works like a charm in the kitchen and has a delicious fruity fragrance.
Used as a pre wash stain remover it rarely fails...
saving garments by laundering clothing one stain at a time.
Before I discovered the powerful stain removing properties of this Method cleaner
I threw out stained clothes.

I also wear protective linen aprons when cooking
to protect my clothes from food splatters.
These are beautifully made and are available from Trica's shop Rough Linen.

I have bought 3 aprons and use them every day.

~ David Austin Roses ~

Almost finished blooming in The Humble Bungalow Garden.

The Andalou CC cream that I swear by...
Must be on my 6th tube by now, is not expensive and it lasts a long time.
Evens out my complexion and is hydrating.
(I give it 5 stars out of 5)
Will not be trying a new CC cream as this one is a winner!

These pretty Colchiums are harbingers of Fall...
these are bent over trying to seek more light.

Perhaps we need to relocate this clump
 buy
more bulbs as they bloom a long time?

Are you open to trying New Things?

I look forward to hearing from you.

Garden snapshots, thrift shop finds and scenic views on my walks...

Large green bottle in The Humble Bungalow Garden.

I saw many of these when I was in Tuscany
so when I spied one at Kay's Korner in Cook Street Village I snapped it up!
(Thanks Karin for saving it for me when I was out of town.)

Dahlia season is upon us...
so many blooms and various varieties.
Which ones to choose?

Annual Tagetes Marigolds
we plan to save the seeds for next year.

Thrift shop teacups...
very cheerful and so pretty.

I don't NEED them but I HAD to buy them!

The de-cluttering binge is still underway...

I took the orchids in their big pots off the shelf above the sink.
The pots were washed and stored away
the orchids were put out on the boulevard for free
they were snapped up quickly!

My goal was to invite more light into the kitchen.
Cleaning off the shelf worked and I am very pleased that I can enjoy the view.

Candle light in The Humble Bungalow Living Room.

My morning routine...
coffee
reading.

Love the soft light and scents...

Most days I find myself
Walking in Oak Bay...
where I spent my childhood.

Memories flood in...

Salty Air
The call of the Gulls
SeaViews
The sound of the waves
as they crash upon the Shore.

~ Sunshine ~

Kitty Islet in Oak Bay

I collect sea glass along the rocky shoreline.

The chairs on the point are very popular...
with expansive scenic views towards Trial Island and beyond
it is not surprising that locals and tourists alike stop and gaze across the sea.

Many bring coffee and some bring picnics...
there is also a picnic table which you might spy on the right side of the rocks.

So many things to be grateful for...
had our 4th vaccination.

We hope to stay healthy and enjoy the Fall weather.

I'll be starting a new knitting project soon and am reading a fun book right now.

That's all for now...
hope you are well.

OOTD ~ It is possible to "Dress Up" Yoga Pants

~ OOTD ~
I am wearing Yoga pants today...
they are comfy and they stretch when I move.

~ Jobs Today ~

Grocery Shopping
Laundry
Tidying up The Humble Bungalow
Hair Appointment
Cleaning Out cupboards

The day ahead also has a few opportunities to put myself "out there"...

I don't want to look uber casual yet I don't feel like changing my clothes to go out.

Popped on my big pearl necklace
will add my black leather loafers...
put on bright red lippy.

Grab my Black Coach Bag and head out to the shops.

Do you wear Yoga pants?
Are you opposed to wearing them in fear of being cited by the Fashion Police?

How do you style them so they look a wee bit more polished?

Claire Austin pure white blooms

Love the purity of white...
