Summertime and wee snippets of our family vacation...

We are on vacation at Quarterdeck cottage...

These are the lazy days of summer that I look forward to every year.

Time for simple card games
family meals, hopscotch, bubble blowing,
sidewalk chalk art
beach ball volleyball in front of the cottage
swimming in the pool
the laughter and fun that we have while making precious memories.

Crib games were mostly won by Mr. HB

Towels and bathing suits...hanging when not in use.

The cottage takes on a rather more casual vibe when the family is here.
We tidy up a wee bit but mostly it just fills up with stuff!

I actually enjoy the chaos as it feels more genuine than a picture perfect image.

A special girl celebrated her 9th birthday!

The party was casual and had a beachy theme...

This inflatable beach ball was a big hit!
The Volleyball Games began and so far have been quite popular.

Sunshine and a seaview...great combination for a holiday.

 ~ Vintage fish sculpture ~

It was the first thing I purchased when we bought our share in the cottage...
it is originally from the Grand Cayman Islands.

I have been busy preparing and serving meals to the crew...
it is one of the things I most enjoy.

Watching people happily eating at the table.
IF
they score a seat at the table!

Our table seats 6 and the kids have had extra friends visiting...
so it is a wee bit of a race to grab a seat.

Those of us who are served last
sit on the deck overlooking the Salish Sea
which is actually the best seat in the cottage :-))

Well I must close for now as I have people to feed and things to do!

Hope your summer is ticking along nicely.

Snippets from Quarterdeck Cottage

Beautiful view from Medicine Beach
the walks along this rocky beach are breathtaking...

~ A soothing scene helps to unkink the knots of anxiety ~

The seas were so quiet and calm that I could feel my body relaxing.

The views toward Vancouver Island remind me of a Tony Only painting.

The weather here has been a mix of sun and fog.
No wild winds or rain.
Feeling grateful for these gifts...

The glorious sunny afternoon was an invitation to enjoy happy hour on the deck.

Evenings are dark and lighting candles adds ambiance and warmth.
These "Ethel Wood" scented soy candles are lovely.
They are sold at a farmstand on South Otter Bay Road here on Pender.

I purchased some for our home and cottage and they have quickly become my favourite.

These wee fungi remind me of that quote from Mary Engelbreit...

"Bloom Where You are Planted"

I finished The Doocot Sweater that I started knitting before the pandemic!
The project was a steep learning curve for me...
It was quite easy knitting baby blankets, dishcloths, shawls and scarves.

Sweaters are much more complicated...
as I found out!
I have learned many new techniques and have gained confidence.
You Tube Videos and The Vogue Knitting book
helped me
as in person tutorials were few and far between.

Now I am excited to get going with my next project...
a simple sweater, very much like a shrug.
It is knit mostly using garter stitch.

When we get back I plan to go shopping for the yarn...
I am just not sure what colour to use?

Basic black always calls to me...

I discovered that knitting in a cheerful colour has been such fun!
especially using the Brooklyn Felted Tweed yarn
and
their yarn colours are brights and brilliant.

Seen on my beach walk at Port Browning...
a chain of rusted iron juxtaposed against a weathered log.

Seeking out and finding something on my daily walks
helps keep me motivated to continue taking steps.

Hope that you are staying healthy and finding inspiration in your daily round.

Weekend snippets...

I meant to post this earlier in the week but I have been preoccupied with other things...

Last weekend we had oodles of fun.
The highlights featured a garden wedding, lunch out with friends, pottering about in the garden tending to the roses, some leisure reading, and we went to see a matinee ~ Yesterday by Richard Curtis.

It is a delightful story with the music of The Beatles playing throughout the film
Starring...
Himesh Patel, Lily James, Ed Sheeran, Kate MacKinnin, James Corden.

We thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish.

a bucket full of roses from our garden for the wedding

Definitely deer food
half a hosta munched

Pink carpet of rose petals...

The wedding was set in the glorious garden of our dear friends.
You can see the Salish Sea just beyond the wedding arbour.
This arbour has been used several times for weddings.
It was reinforced with rope and new driftwood logs for this weekends' nuptials.

Beautiful bee balm co-mingling with yellow roses.

A gorgeous Monarda bloom
(aka Bee Balm)

A Family Affair...
Salmon caught by one of the cousins,
smoked by the groom and served by my BFF

The theme for the wedding was birds as the couple are "birders"

The groom made these stunning bird sculptures.

I'd like to commission him to make us some too!

I wore a polka dot dress by a Vancouver company called Gilmour.

Flip Flops with some sparkle by Amanda Bleu.

My current read Windfallen by the exceptional author JoJo Moyes.
Marigold The Mouse is making an appearance on the blog.
She's been hiding snug in her mouse hole
as the ongoing noise from the construction has made her a wee bit jumpy.

The bedroom is getting a much needed makeover...
it is unbelievable that it has taken us so many years to have this done.

I am looking forward to purchasing new sheets and a dust ruffle.
Pillows are on my wish list too.

I must close for now and attend to some of the domestic chores that are waiting.
