Rebelling in white...OOTD

Do you follow rules?

How about the rule about wearing white after Labour Day?

I am NOT obeying that rule!
The fashion police might ticket me...but really I don't mind.

White NYDJ

Saint James striped Top

Growing out a pixie cut is not for the faint of heart!
Some days I can coax it into a curly state and others it just will not cooperate!
I love the Bumble and Bumble Don't Blow It and also the Aveda Brilliant gel...
they both help immensely.

After washing my hair I use the Bumble and Bumble
 then next day
(when my hair does not get washed)
I use the Aveda gel.

The children are back to school today and summer feels like its about to come to a close.

Climbing Royal Sunset Rose

A fresh flush of flowers are blooming.
I so love this rose for its heady fragrance...
impossible not to pick a few blooms
to bring inside The Humble Bungalow.

September is a hopeful month
one that brings with it possibilities...

I am pondering many options...
 taking a class
Yoga
aqua fit
rejoining WW
trying something new
looking for a volunteer placement
going back to the club for bridge after the summer holidays

Lots of things to pursue and many new books out to read
a knitting project that has been put on the back burner will be revived.

Are you looking for new possibilities this month?
What things are you considering?

Take care
thank you for popping by The Humble Bungalow Blog.

Growing pains...a transition of sorts.

My hair is going through a transition that I am now referring to as "growing pains!"

It has been a few months since I have seen my hairdresser...
I dearly miss our visits and chats...

I am in the process of growing out the short pixie cut that I had to get several years ago when my frozen shoulder prevented me from using a blow dryer...

Then darn it, the other shoulder froze!
Which I was not expecting, as I am an optimist.
(I had been warned by the specialist that this may occur!)

So I kept the pixie as it was an easy option
especially when one is in too much pain to lift their arm above their head.

I purchased a Bumble and Bumble product appropriately named
 "Don't Blow It"
to help me with the "growing pains"...
The transition phase from one style to another is not the easiest to style...
at least that's true for me personally.

Oh and here is a bit of wabi-sabi
the toothpaste tube sitting on the sink...
our humble bungalow is a rife with imperfections!

The back view
one that I don't usually see
shows an area of grey hair near the bottom
nature has had a hand in this as I have not streaked my hair.
The thing that comes to mind is skunk....
Yikes!

My hairdresser said I need to wait at least another two months before coming back in to see her...

So it's what I can only say must be wabi-sabi hair.

Do you change your hairstyle?

Have you grown it long, or do you like it short?

Is it grey or do you colour it?

Any tips on how you've managed the transition?

In closing this post
before I go out and work in the garden
I wanted to share this picture with you.
Lovely Constance Spry and Paul's Lemon Pillar Roses
climbing on the arbour out front of The Humble Bungalow on a sunny morning.
The path is sprinkled with petals
an unintentional wabi-sabi welcome to the garden...

We just celebrated Canada Day July 1st
and
The 4th of July celebrations are next.

Hope you are having a great week my friends...

Wednesday ~ Pictures and a few Words

5am ~ the mournful droning of a freighter's fog horn in the nearby Strait wakes me.
I toss and turn
the cat stirs
licks my face...

I am wide awake!

5:30 ~ Sleep eludes me so I tip toe out of our bedroom
close the door
go into the kitchen and make an espresso.

the jolt of caffeine is welcome

Am I too groggy to compose a post this early?

Oh but then I remember it is Wordless Wednesday
maybe all I need to do is find a few images
post them pronto.

Aveda helps keep my curls clean and soft...

I had my hair cut last Saturday.
It was driving me crazy.
Too long and limp and the weight pulled the hair down
so a few layers were added to allow the curls to spring back to life!

My hairdresser gave me some samples of Bumble and Bumble
their newest products for curly hair.

I am excited about the new Primer...
it helps define the curl and refreshes curls without having to shampoo the next day.
(My hairdresser recommends shampooing every other day.)

~ Advice from the experts ~
I booked an appointment for a Jane Iredale natural make up session at the Spa.
I am keen to see what products and colours they recommend for my skin tone.
Since I opt for the no make up look, it will be interesting to see the results.

Hair and my OOTD...a quickie post.

It's a casual day here in The Humble Bungalow...
quiet domestic routines are in place.
While the dryer was tumbling the linens I took a wee break and took some photos.

My hair is slowly growing...
it's a tedious process at best.
My hairdresser gave it a bang trim and tidied up the back layers.
I'm not blow drying it these days.
I have a new Bumble and Bumble product which I am using
I scrunch and twirl my hair as it dries...

Scrunching it encourages the curl.
You can see the grey tinsel amid the brown locks.
The grey really comes out more as the hair dries...

I don't mind being grey and I wonder why I fought to keep it hidden under colour for so many years.
Lots of women I know colour their hair and feel very strongly about not going grey.
It's an identity issue...
(and it's very personal)
we either accept ourselves and the things that occur naturally with aging
or we fight tooth and nail and resist and delay the inevitable.

It's not a great image is it?
One day I really must buy a better mirror one that can be located in a better lit area of our bungalow.

Sperry Shoes

I have put on a bit of weight these past few weeks as my knee has been bothering me so I am not able to walk as much.
I will have to go to the doctor if it keeps up.
It started when I was "guerrilla gardening" and has improved since I have eased off the serious digging and weeding but there are twinges of shooting pains and it is very stiff periodically throughout the day.
I am using Voltaren a pain relief gel and that seems to take the edge off...
(I don't usually complain so please forgive me for this little whine)

Mr. HB and I are off for a few weeks on our boat.
We have lots of books to read and there will be simple meals prepared aboard our Sea Ray.
I'm looking forward to doing laps in the pools and exploring the Gulf Islands that we visit.

White Iceberg Rose

Please follow me on Instagram where I'll be posting pictures as long as I can get a WiFi signal.
I'll miss out garden and the cats but know that they are in the tender loving hands of a friend.

Don't forget to stop and smell the roses!
