Jeans...OOTD

If we are talking about our favourite clothes
and we are today
I have a confession...

My all time favourite OOTD to wear is a white Tee or shirt and pair of great fitting jeans.
They can be worn with diamonds, gold or pearls...
a Hermes silk scarf, a pashmina, a thrifted woolen wrap,
they can be worn with heels, ballet flats, boots or flip flops...
a Chanel tweed, a leather Moto jacket or a soft well worn hoodie.

If I only could choose one outfit for the rest of my days.....
jeans would figure prominently in the equation.

It might sound silly coming from a grown woman who is just a few weeks away from 60
I am here to confess that  "I DO LOVE JEANS!"

I've worn jeans for decades and think I always will...
they are on my "desert island list"
after sunscreen, moisturizer, mascara and lip balm.

My tatty 2 year old g21 skinny jeans have worn out their welcome,
but it's not surprising with so many wearings and washings....
so they have been donated to the charity shop.
At $10, the cost per wearing must be less than 5 cents by now.

I've seen and heard of NYDJ jeans but have never actually tried a pair on until recently...
they are available in Petite which is wonderful because I really hate shortening jeans.
I didn't go looking for them, they rather fell off the hanger as I was perusing the racks at The Hudson's Bay store.
A woman of a certain age mentioned that she had several pairs of NYDJ and thought they made the best of a "woman's assets" Hmmm...
I thought I'd give them a try...

I'm not sure if I should be raving publicly about these jeans
(they may fall into that shadowy category referred to as "Mom jeans!")
Are the Fashion Police on duty?

I do like how they fit...
(I am a Mother and a Grand Mother)

A great fitting pair of jeans can take you most places...
not the red carpet, a funeral or a wedding
not in my crowd
BUT
they are on my "desert island list."
I have worn jeans since I was a teenager
plan to wear them forever
they have no expiration date...
and are so versatile in how you can style them.

I have put together a few jean OOTD options.

OOTD....what I wore to the market.

Today I am off to the Market as we have company coming for dinner.
I plan to serve steak, sauteed mushrooms, baby potatoes dressed with butter and freshly chopped mint, steamed asparagus, and a homemade rhubarb pie for dessert.
Fall is on the horizon...
there's a chill in the air and some of the leaves are already turning their autumnal shades of orange and sienna.

OOTD ~ May 12

My OOTD has been seen here recently and I like the pairing so I have worn it again.
Like that French girl I am accessorizing it differently but the core garments are the same.

Jones NY top
RW ponte knit leggings
Adriana lace camisole

Pepper is not camera shy!

lacy details that say "peek a boo!"

salt and pepper
tinsel
the grey is here to stay
this is my natural colour now
all the dyed locks have been shorn

I find this charm a bit funny
if lost return to Tiffany and Co.
(as if!)

The closest Tiffany is in Vancouver
if someone found me lost ~ suffering with amnesia
I doubt very much they would take me there!

My wardrobe is very small which is good in so many ways
I can get dressed very quickly and most things work together.
Mix and Match makes it look like more than it really is
and
WHEN I lose some of this weight
(note the positive slant)
replacing a few staples will not be an onerous task.

My sister, Mother, and I enjoyed a delicious afternoon tea at darling daughter's new loft.

We visited The Silk Road Tea Company sampled some teas
then ventured down the street to The Fantan Gallery in Chinatown
we patted the two sleepy resident cats...
peered into the postage stamp sized garden in back

Mother bought a house warming gift for darling daughter and I picked up some new placemats and napkins.

Chester checked them out...

Pepper was not too interested...

I went for my walk even though it was foggy and rainy...
plus I cooked a WW points friendly dinner.

I did indulge in a glass of white wine
after all it's Mother's Day.

How was your Mother's Day?

Daughter love...and shopping!

I defer to my daughter for advice and her expertise on fashion and make up.
She is younger and very savvy and is on the pulse of what is current.

I was looking for a new eyeliner as the Kohl pencil I had been using was dragging...
when one applies eyeliner without progressive glasses it needs to be simple...

Revlon to the Rescue!
goes on smoothly
with a light hand and can be thick or thin...
Thank you J this is a winner!

Arugula tomato cucumber salad with homemade vinaigrette.
Oven roasted baby red potatoes
tenderloin wrapped in bacon...

quick and easy
it needs to be as
I was at the salon
for a cut and colour....
until dinnertime
and it's hard to believe
it's been 6 weeks!

Bubbly!
I feel so energized with a fresh cut...
and it's not just the bubbles

my grey locks are in hiding....

J said "smile and don't look so serious"...

I tried...

and tried....

and tried!

Some gals are so photogenic
 not me.
J snapped a dozen or more and we whittled it down to these three!

I am on the hunt for a new handbag
Macy's sale flyer came a' calling...

I love this Cole Haan number...
look

so tempting...

Mr. HB wants to take me away on holiday for my birthday.

I am thinking
save the money for the getaway
buy in person
Hermes
Tiffany's
Holt Renfrew
get the whole wrapping experience...

I love the personal touch :)
stay tuned.....

a gal with a fresh cut and a new colour could be a serious shopping diva!

Vintage in the Humble Bungalow

I found this miniature bureau in an antique shop and fell in love with it. I was told that it might have been a traveling sales mans' sample piece.  I knew that it would be invaluable for storage of small things in my 1913 home.

Tiffany necklace which I wrap twice around my wrist and use as a bracelet.

West Coast First Nations Baskets

I love baskets and find they can be beautiful as well as functional.
This wee carving is a mouse, it is unusual. More commonly depicted in carvings are Frogs, Ravens, Eagles, Salmon, Whales and Seals.

The Humble Bungalow lends itself to items from nature. The arts and crafts philosophy evolved from the Victorian era almost as a protest to the clutter and excesses that were common in Victorian times. Honest, simple understated designs using organic natural materials often found on site or locally gave the architect and builder their inspiration.

People were breaking away from the need to amass and accumulate.
Furniture styles were simplified and many pieces were made by the home craftsman. Patterns for furnishing projects were commonplace and featured simple unadorned designs.  Companies that did produce furniture printed and distributed catalogues from which the homeowner could order from.

Our furniture is mostly from that early arts and crafts period. The pieces that we own are in what is commonly referred to as "museum condition" meaning that they have not been refinished and the blemishes that have been acquired over the years are retained.

One chair in particular has a flat and heavy armrest into which someone, likely a child, has carved R.I.P. with a cemetery cross!

As the current resident of the Humble Bungalow I have chosen to decorate within these parameters of simplicity, form and function.

Collecting vintage and using items from nature are most appropriate.

Mrs. Plant, a former long time resident of the Humble Bungalow.
She raised 3 children in this small home, tended her cottage garden and worked as a dressmaker to support the family.

The Humble Bungalow is on the Heritage Registry to save it from demolition in the future. Our job is to maintain and preserve it for the next generation.
