OOTD...

Mother's Day
OOTD

NYDJ boyfriend style
Josef Seibel red ballet flats

Saint James Striped Top

My hair has more silver tinsel these days...
I like the effect and its natural!

You may notice that my cheeks are still swollen from the YAG laser treatment.
The capillaries that were zapped are red but will fade in the coming weeks.
I still may need a few more treatments to get on top of the issue.

Brunch at The Surly Mermaid in Sidney.
The "best ever" Eggs Benedict
they make it with a thin biscuit and served it with truffle potatoes.
NOM NOM

Mr. HB enjoyed the Korean BBQ chicken wings.
What a feast!

Driftwood Beach artist has expanded her work with the bird installation.
Sadly, her whale tail sculpture was stolen a few weeks ago...
who would do such a thing?

Last week the weather was been particularly warm
almost hot...
today it has cooled to about 12 degrees Celsius.

I am reading Educated by Tara Westover
it's a memoir...
often disturbing.
I am finding it difficult to put down.

Hope that your week is off to a great start.

Thank you for stopping by The Humble Bungalow Blog.

OOTD and a few books...

The ultimate in comfort food...
cabbage roll casserole
from
The Best of Best of Bridge Cookbook.

So soothing on a rainy cold Autumn evening.

I made this after recuperating from 3 days of flu like symptoms after getting the Shingrix vaccine.
It was my second shot, the first one left e feeling flu-ish for one day
so I was not expecting to be sidelined for 3 days
but it's over and I am feeling more like myself.

It is worth a few days of malaise
the effectiveness rating is 97% which is good.

Our GP told us that he had a rash of older patients recently who suffered permanent neurological damage after a bout of shingles...
one patient went blind
so he is advising all his older patients to get the vaccine.
Have you had yours?

I had lots of good cuddles from Chester who lay beside me most of the days.
The cats were quite perplexed, perhaps confused
as I am usually very active here in the Humble Bungalow...

I read Joanna Goodman's novel The Finishing School
I really enjoyed it...

Before I had my shingles shot I went shopping and purchased a cozy new vest...

Of course it is in the grey and black basic wardrobe theme colours!
Whats up with all the wrinkles in those pants?
(ha ha)

worn here with my new Timberland boots

Verve Ami vest from Marshalls
super cozy for our cool autumn weather.

Today I am wearing my striped Saint James top with a black skirt, tights and black Chelsea boots.

I've started this book by JoJo Moyes...
its grabbed me right from the first page and I can tell its going to be a great read.

What are you reading?
Are you in a book club?

Well I must get some stuff done here so I will close for now.
Thank you for stopping by...

Rebelling in white...OOTD

Do you follow rules?

How about the rule about wearing white after Labour Day?

I am NOT obeying that rule!
The fashion police might ticket me...but really I don't mind.

White NYDJ

Saint James striped Top

Growing out a pixie cut is not for the faint of heart!
Some days I can coax it into a curly state and others it just will not cooperate!
I love the Bumble and Bumble Don't Blow It and also the Aveda Brilliant gel...
they both help immensely.

After washing my hair I use the Bumble and Bumble
 then next day
(when my hair does not get washed)
I use the Aveda gel.

The children are back to school today and summer feels like its about to come to a close.

Climbing Royal Sunset Rose

A fresh flush of flowers are blooming.
I so love this rose for its heady fragrance...
impossible not to pick a few blooms
to bring inside The Humble Bungalow.

September is a hopeful month
one that brings with it possibilities...

I am pondering many options...
 taking a class
Yoga
aqua fit
rejoining WW
trying something new
looking for a volunteer placement
going back to the club for bridge after the summer holidays

Lots of things to pursue and many new books out to read
a knitting project that has been put on the back burner will be revived.

Are you looking for new possibilities this month?
What things are you considering?

Take care

New lipstick in a brighter shade...
inpsired by Kathy KSL on Instagram.

(she is the talented artist from whom we purchased our most recent piece of art)
I love it!

Not always easy taking a selfie...
but you get the idea of the new shade of lip colour.

Hope that your week is ticking along nicely and its nearly the weekend.
Do you have something fun planned?

OOTD...Blues from France and Britain

One of my recent outfits
is a mix of makers...
one from France and the other from the UK.

I cannot say enough about the Saint James brand of clothing...
I absolutely LOVE their clothes.

The skirt is a smidgen above my knees
which is fine by me.
I wear opaque tights and the black Chelsea boots

I like the mix of textures...

I could wear my pearls for a more classic look.

or
wear this twill scarf
which was Mom's

or
this Swiss Vetter silk scarf
that I found at the thrift shop.

If I was feeling adventurous
I'd buy a bright yellow pair of tights and amp up the colour story.

This Saint James top has weight to it...
which makes it warm on its' own
or
on colder days it can be worn under my puffy blue down vest.
It marries well with my jeans too.

The skirt is an oldie but a goodie...

I've been trying to play around more with accessories.
They really make getting dressed feel a lot more creative.

Do you mix up what you wear or tend to stick with the same pairing of outfits.

There are blue skies above and it is a gorgeous sunny day out so I wil close for now and wish you all a wonderful weekend.

Shopping ~ a wee bit of Retail Therapy!

When one has a closet that is curated and has the basics there is no real "need" to go shopping...I have not inherited Mother's lifelong passion for fashion
and the urge to be continually purchasing and filling up more closets with beautiful things has not been my top priority.
(roses on the other hand, can one have too many?)

Mom was wearing current and up to date outfits until a few weeks before she died...always taking care of her shoes, handbags and beautiful jewelry.
She dressed up everyday as if she was going to the theatre and her neighbours would always ask her in the elevator where she was going as she looked so well turned out...her response was "I am going downstairs to get my mail!"

Since Mom passed I have been in a bit of a rut...
I would not go so far as to say depressed, but definitely content to wear my walking and Yoga gear all day...I suppose I am seeking solace and comfort in cozy comfy clothes...perhaps being a tad lazy in the process.

So with these thoughts in the back of my mind I took myself out for a shopping expedition to Sidney where Mom and I loved to look for clothes.

So I took myself to the shops...
(Emma Bridgewater tote bag)

The French company Saint James makes a variety of striped tees.

I like a V neck as I am so short and this particular top has side vents at the bottom which is helpful when one is not at their slimmest!

They make lovely sweaters, coats, tops and shirts.
I purchased this top and am very happy with it...the fabric is weighty enough to skim the body and it is smooth and soft.
Amazingly comfortable which is a priority for me.

I bought a striped Saint James umbrella last winter and a lovey raincoat.
I am tempted to buy a sweater for winter...

I consider this to be an investment purchase as it is a tad under $200.
But it fulfills my desire to have a new striped top...
the one that I bought in Paris at the COS store 2 years ago
finally wore out from frequent wearings.
My hairdresser told me that the COS store has opened in Vancouver's Gastown district.
I plan to make a pilgrimage to peruse their stock sometime this Fall.

The weather has been glorious for my daily walks.

The scenery is so beautiful that it encourages me to walk
and the ocean calms at the same time.

I read this fascinating book
The Primates of Park Avenue by Wednesday Martin PHD
a memoir.
It was a peek into the lives of the privileged mommies who live in the Upper East Side of Manhattan.
A world unlike anything I have ever known!

I would recommend you read it if you are at all interested in how the uber wealthy young moms dress, eat and exercise...
and the lengths they go to to be the best that they can be.

A day in the garden spent in peace and quiet
dead heading the roses and then taking some time to sit with a glass of lemonade on the front porch of The Humble Bungalow...

Feeling grateful.
