I heart summer holidays...

Isla was given the opportunity to choose three marbles when we went to the Antique Store on Pender Island.
This large blue one, another in green and a smaller blue one which she gave to her brother Henry.

Milada Huk from Renaissance Studios on Pender Island designs and makes jewellery using Swarovsky crystals.
This necklace caught Isla's eye...
it is called Fairy Garden.
Grammy was delighted when she saw how Isla swooned when she spied this piece so we bought it!

Grampa found this stone heart on Hamilton Beach near Port Browning.
Isla took it home.

Beach treasures!

In dire need of a pedicure after a week at the cottage.
Days filled with swimming, hop scotch, beach combing, games, boating,
and other fun activities.

I posted this picture on my Instagram page...
"when your breakfast matches the book cover"
it makes for an easy photo opportunity!

A parting gift from the family...

This Summer the weather has been fabulous...

Pops of colour...

Autumn is a lovely time of year for enjoying the colours.

I wear mostly blacks and greys
so I can see here with this example of contrast
that a spot of colour
may be in order!

The pumpkin patch was full of families this Sunday.
Many local farmers grow pumpkins and they also offer hayrides, hot chocolate and some even have corn mazes.
I just love the field of orange pumpkins!
A sea of orange...

It is lovely when one discovers a magazine that has well written and informative articles.
one that has a balance of
fashion
style
travel
people
homes
gardens

Today I am cozying up in my newest linen scarf...
no pop of orange today
instead
I am wearing a red lipstick
which is helping to liven up my OOTD.

L'Oreal on the far left # 315 True Red
followed by
a spritz of Le Labo Rose 31 and I am ready.

Hope you have a great week!

Flea Market Finds...

I've been spending quite a bit of time "fluffing" the house.
Getting rid of extra stuff that clutters up the tiny space
and rearranging a few pieces.

Our bungalow decor is simple which lends itself towards natural items.
Opting for colours that look pleasant in a woody arts and crafts heritage home...
almost organic.

"A tisket a tasket"
I spy a vintage basket...
and
some old silver.

Something for the cottage.

A large vintage Tea tin...

Roses in the small silver jug.

I purchased this Imari jug awhile back
I use it for pens and pencils in the kitchen near the phone.

It's fun to peruse home decor magazines for inspiration.
Our clever daughter reminded me that I could find many lovely home decor things to "pin" off of the boards on Pinterest.
I started one for the cottage and am having fun getting ideas online.
I sit with my tea and before you know it an hour has evaporated!

It's also fun looking through the shelves of a vintage shop...

I like to think of it as an adventure because you never know what you are going to find.

OOTD ~ What I wore and will soon will be wearing.

I tied one of Mother's scarves on to perk up this plain V neck top.
The scarf is a large lightweight square by Fraas.
The top is Wilfred from Aritzia.
Boyfriend jeans by NYDJ

Sad I know but no great lighting downstairs where the full length mirror is located.
I do plan to buy a free standing mirror if I ever find one that is not too expensive.
You can see my sterling bangles collection on display atop of the cabinet.

Darling daughter and I went shopping for her birthday gift and we were successful in finding her some super cute Citizen's of Humanity jeans at Aritzia.

After she shopped we cruised through the Bay looking at various items...
shoes, tops and tees and she found me something that has been on my "bucket list" for quite some time...
The classic tweed jacket that I can dress up or dress down.
Perfect colour too to go with my small curated wardrobe!

Ferragamo flats that darling daughter gave me for my birthday this year!
I am so happy with these shoes and they are so comfortable to wear!

Bangles

The jacket was on sale and deeply discounted...
it felt so wonderful to find something long wished for at a bargain price.

I had money left to go out for lunch the next day.
Hearty mushroom soup and a small slice of a baguette served with a simple salad.

I found this quote on Pinterest and feel it so very inspiring and appropriate for those who are dealing with dark days.

I received a lovely email from a reader recently
she is feeling low
so I would like to dedicate these words to her.

Life is full to the brim right now in The Humble Bungalow and this Easter Weekend we have oodles of plans...
I am carving out some "me time" with my favourite magazine
before the arrival of the house guests and the family brunch.

Hope your weekend has some fun packed into it...
thank you for stopping by The Humble Bungalow.

Getting My Happy On

Oh my the overcast rainy days are getting tiresome...
almost everyone I encounter seems to be focusing on our wet Spring.
We are craving some sunshine and warmer weather
but until that happens, I believe in being proactive by making my own sunshine...

A pretty new brolly...
from France

a tasty latte sipped in a local cafe

Warm thoughts sunshine and yellow sunflowers...

a dear reader from Vancouver
sent me a card and a packet of seeds for sunflowers
which we plan to plant
in The Humble Bungalow Garden
that put a smile on my face!

Thank you R
you are a kind and thoughtful friend.
XO

With a passion for  French interiors and homes...
no plane ticket or holiday accommodations arranged
I'll be transported as I peruse these beautiful magazines.

The hunt for the illusive pink lipstick is over...
it is a bit darker pink than I thought would suit me but with help from the savvy gals at the pharmacy I bagged a winner!

L'Oreal Colour Riche #580 Peony Pink

It's frequently the little things that can help keep up our spirits.

a cheerful mug
(Emma Bridgewater)
a warm hug
a smile

perhaps an afternoon to relax and read
indulge in a pot of tea
nibble a square of good chocolate
maybe even have a nap

If things are not going your way
I do hope that they will get better...

This blend is divine...
what are your favourite teas?

Raindrops like wee diamonds sparkle on the stems of the snowdrops.

Your turn now to chime in and share with us
what do you do to keep your spirits up?

The sun is out as I put the finishing touches on this post.

Wishing you a lovely week.

Week three...being proactive by getting back into healthy routines.

What I kept...

Going through Mom's things took time as we did not want to rush the process...
there were a few surprises, but for the most part, it was what we might have expected from an organized woman
whose attention to detail was evident in everything she touched.

My sister and I donated most of her clothes...
I saved a grey cashmere sweater and have been wearing it most days.
It feels like a cozy warm hug...
it is as if mom has her arms firmly wrapped around me.

I also brought home some small red spatulas...the kind that one uses when scraping out the last of the mayonnaise or mustard out of a small jar. I don't know what moved me to keep them but they are a practical tool that I will use regularly and take up very little room in our small bungalow.

I kept her recipes in the vintage recipe box.
One afternoon in the coming week I will make a pot of tea and peruse her collection.
It could be like a trip back in time...
she had a large repertoire
that ran the gamut
from jello whips to apple pie and meat loaf.

Mom had oodles and oodles of knick knacks!
She wrote a note that specified she was leaving me her antique Maling bowl...

a blue and white porcelain plant pot finds a new home here

Mom's condo is listed on the market.

I'll miss sitting on the deck with mom sharing a chat and a cup of tea.
There will be so many things that I will miss...
our telephone calls
walks
shopping trips
laughter

these memories will help to comfort me

The Humble Bungalow is scented with the heady fragrance of lilies.
(I remove the stamens as they stain everything)

On the horizon...
I plan to return to the practise of Yoga
am looking at local studios and their schedules.
It really helps with relaxation and I feel energized after the sessions.

Walking is back in my daily routine but having been away from it for almost a month my muscles were reminding me of that saying...
"use it or lose it!"
Thankfully bath salts and soaking in the tub have been helping.

I've got the urge to buy something bright and colourful.
My wardrobe of greys and black feels like it could use a punch of colour.
I haven't felt like shopping in quite some time and this might just well be what they call "retail therapy!"

The days are getting lighter
there is birdsong outside the window
spring flowers are emerging
 simple joys
one delights in
that can temper the sadness
enfold one in a firm embrace
almost as cozy
as Mom's cashmere sweater...

There is a sense of relief after these busy few weeks.
The pace has slowed and I was able to indulge in a few quiet days
that were spent at home
getting domestics under control
teas and cafe cremes were sipped
while gazing out the windows
and
flipping through several French magazines
Cote Sud and Campagne Decoration.

Speaking of France...
I have been wearing the samples that I ordered from the new musc collection
by
 Sylvaine Delacoutre
The Dovana scent is lovely and may be the fragrance that I order
it has notes of iris, neroli, vanilla, and ambrette.
You might like them too.

I am not affiliated with Sylvaine and have received no remuneration for this mention.
Her website is here.

Hope that your weekend is ticking along nicely.
Thank you for stopping by...
