Pussy Willows, Primulas et Poulet

On the heels of the boggers Tea, my previous post, which I hope you have read...
I am dreaming of pussy willows.

Pussy Willows are blooming...
since I was a little girl I have always loved them.

I went to Thorn and Thistle in search of something to cheer up our Humble Bungalow.
One can always find something of great beauty in this wee flower shop.

Outside they have a stand with seasonal flowers and greenery...and lo and behold bunches of pussy willows.
I ventured inside and spied some cheery hyacinths, roses, and floral arrangements.
The decor has a Valentine's theme...red garlands, red roses, and candy hearts with messages of love.
Satisfied with my choice, they were wrapped up in brown paper and tied it with black twine.

The short willow branches were getting lost inside the tall vase so I popped them in this wee elephant vase.
I have two arrangements for the price of one.
One sits in the dining room and the other on the plate rail in the family room.

Primulas signal that Spring is on the way.
Our Humble Bungalow porch is not complete without a few of these plants.
Tradition dictates that we dress up winter in a bright manner.

Sunny Yellow and Brilliant Cobalt Blue.

Every year I find myself challenged to choose the plants.
So many colours...and they are all so lovely and bright.
It takes me many minutes and I group the plants together and stand back as I consider the options.

Our local garden shop had a one day special.
Primulas were $1.00 each which was quite a saving as they are usually priced at $2.50!
Not bad for a $5.00 investment and when they finish blooming on the porch I plant them in the garden.

le Poulet

I am shocked at the price of a free range chicken.
This little roaster was almost $13.00 and it is so small that it fits on a dinner plate with room to spare.

It will be our dinner tonight.
Leftovers for lunch tomorrow and soup stock when there is nothing much left on the carcass.

I am serving it with roasted vegetables, mashed potatoes and gravy.

What about that Super Bowl?
Did you see it?
The Seattle Sea Hawks were amazing!
I don't usually watch football but after all it is the biggest game of the season.

Did you hear that Philip Seymour Hoffman died in NY city from an apparent drug overdose?
he was only 46 years old...what a shame.
I thought that he gave so many brilliant performances in films.
I loved him in Capote.

I'm going to pour myself a glass of wine now and watch the post game highlights.
Seattle is abuzz with glee.
The chicken smells great and we will be dining in a few short minutes.
Cheers

Canadian dreaming in shades of GOLD and SILVER...

Canadians have a reputation for being polite and reserved...in my experience I would have to agree with this statement....except when it comes to our National Sport HOCKEY!
Our household has come to a full stop of late, we are going for the GOLD...and the TV has been set on CTV and the PVR has been set up to record the momentous occasion.

Last evening, close friends came over and we ordered in Thai food which was yummy and sat glued to the TV as we watched the Canadian team beat Slovakia...and nearly let it go into a shoot out at the end...thank you to our goalie Roberto Luongo and his save! Phew!

Tonight we are going to walk over to my mother's condo and watch the game at her place....she is a bigger hockey fan than I am as she grew up in Trail, B.C. the home of the Trail Smoke Eaters!

Whatever the outcome, whoever wins GOLD... it's been a wonderful show.
Go Canada Go!

I am not a trophy wife, but I have several trophies.

I fancy trophies, they represent great achievements.
I have had the honor of winning a rose bowl from the Garden Club for best rose in show. My name was engraved on it and I had it on display, proudly but humbly, on my mantle for one year... I had to give it back as I did not win best rose in show the following year!

This large vintage trophy was a gift from my delightful daughter JAL. It was  filled with white lilac on the occasion of Mother's Day!
I do not think that my mothering skills are worthy of a trophy, I'll take it as a compliment.

I was not athletic in my youth, save that darned grass hockey team that I played on in high school. Grass hockey was a rough and tumble sport and my shins were black and blue with bruises. I was short and and slow so I was an easy mark.  I was very afraid when we played against the private schools as they played for honour, to win and there was usually blood.

Look at that dirty window pane. No one would bestow an award for cleaning here...excuse me, Ms.H (she doesn't do windows) besides the mess is on the outside!

I am told this trophy appeared in the movie The Fog....I wouldn't know.  I do not watch horror films.
I love the racket details, so artistic and finely crafted.

A trophy wife is defined as -

A wife, usually young and attractive, regarded as a status symbol for the husband, usually older and affluent.

"Our romantic ideals are always grounded in economic realities, from the Victorian marriage model to the 1980s masters of the universe for whom a standard-issue trophy wife was a badge of honor."
Source: Deborah Siegel, PsychologyToday.com, "The New Trophy Wife", Jan/Feb 2004.

MOTU...trophy wife! Classifying and labelling are too general as they do not allow for individuality...I am sure there are exceptions to every rule.
I'll leave that dangling thought as I need to ponder and ruminate more on the subject.....
