A few things ~ French style.

A whisper soft scarf to wear that adds a wee bit of french style.
I have paired it with an Eileen Fisher top
Lands' End cashmere cardigan
Royalty jeans.

Silk square scarf by Pertrusse with exquisite hand rolled edges
"Cha Cha Cha"
from

Scarves are such an easy way to amp up a simple outfit.
I own maybe a dozen silk scarves...
Pertrusse, Hermes, Ralph Lauren

My first Hermes scarf was a souvenir from San Francisco.
The second and third were from the Hermes shop in Vancouver.
The others were purchased in Paris.

A friend Ali who lives on Salt Spring Island gave me a Le Fermiere pot
she brought some home from her trip to France.

I brought several more home from my last trip to Provence and the SW of France.
The French yogurt is so rich and creamy that we indulged with a pot each morning for breakfast with fruit before going out to explore the villages.

These sweet peas are the last for the season...
it was an amazing season for these scented gems.

A bountiful harvest of apples await to be picked in The Humble Bungalow Garden.

One of our favourite apple recipes is from Ina Garten
French Apple Tarte.

Serve it warm with ice cream.

A gift arrived in the post...
fresh grown and dried lavender sachets!

I love the detailed embroidery...
thank you Lorrie.

Do you follow Vivi et Margot on Instagram?
Charlotte Reiss has a shop Vivi et Margot that sells all things French...
baskets, linens, aprons, copper pots, candles, soaps etc.

I purchased this kitchen candle.
It will be lit on the cool days of Fall and Winter when I am cooking in the kitchen.

Today it is raining and I am in the kitchen making a tomato and potato bisque.

Summertime Blues...

Himalayan Blue Poppy
snapshot from my latest visit to Butchart Gardens.

These poppies are so pretty but are not all that easy to grow.
I had some about 10 years ago and they lasted for a few seasons and then they disappeared.
I have toyed with the idea of buying the seed packet from Butcharts and trying my hand at growing them again.

Old Navy Boyfriend Jean Jacket.
Very soft
distressed
and super comfy to wear.

Purchased in the store at 30% off the regular price.

It is very versatile and I love it with my white Tees and jeans.
(with pearls)
I added this scarf from France.

This scarf was in a subscription box from My Stylish French Country Home.
I think they sell them in their online store.

There are a few rips which gives the denim character...
I wear this with my blue and white striped Talbots linen skirt.
My black UPP capris. and black lace top...
I popped it over a black dress
and can imagine that this will become a workhorse in my wardrobe.

We received our second vaccinations this morning and I am very pleased that we were able to get the second shot.

There is a sense of calm now as we move toward opening up things here in Victoria.
Dining inside is permitted, as are movie theatres and plays.

Looking forward to being more social.
Seeing our family and more friends.

How are things going where you live?

My Stylish French Box reveal...

I just hopped on to the blog to quickly share the November contents of My Stylish French Box! The luxurious items were themed "holiday chic" and they did not disappoint. Sharon Santoni and her team know their clientele very well.

My favoutite item is a bespoke cashmere and wool wrap.
It is so cozy!

Our weather is colder now so it is perfect for the chilly afternoons and evenings.
I am draping this over my shoulders and don't feel any of the usual drafts in our 100+ year old bungalow.

This lipstick is super moisturizing and luscious.
The box is pretty too and opens up like a flower petal.
The lipsticks are refillable and come in a red velvet pouch.

Emollient balm
Writing paper and a beautiful pen.

Antique crystal drop strung onto a purple velvet ribbon
It can be worn as a necklace or hung in a window to refract the light.
A lovely pouchette to use as a bag or for makeup or whatever you fancy!

I've got to run now as I have a bunch of things that I need to get done.

It surprises me how busy my days are during the pandemic.
The homekeeping chores haven't gone away and despite the fact that we are not entertaining I cannot let the dust bunnies take over.

I've been cooking a ton of new recipes, reading oodles of books, walking, and more recently I have ventured out to the shops to buy gifts for friends and family.

Take care, stay safe.

August My Stylish French Box delivery...

A beautifully curated box of French items recently arrived on my doorstep.
My Stylish French Box is always a luxurious treat.
A wee bit of French chic to add to our home.

Beeswax candles ~ Apis - Cera
Salad servers ~ Sabre
Pottery oil jug ~ Digoin
Dijon mustard ~ Pommery
Vintage brooch ~ French Brocantes
Pretty tray ~ Au Bain Marie
Table runner ~ Charvet

I've opened the mustard it is yummy.
Lovely flavour in a homemade salad dressing.

Decanted some quality olive oil into the Digoin jug
placed the cork stopper inside...
it works well and is much nicer to use that the plastic olive oil bottle.

We eat a lot of salads here in The Humble Bungalow.
The servers will get used daily and they are so very pretty.

I look forward to using the candles.
I absolutely LOVE the fragrance of beeswax as it burns.

The wee tray is now in our guest room on the table,
The colours work exquisitely with our red
 Toile du Jouy bed linen.

Sharon and her team at My Stylish French Box are planning a festive holiday box for November.

Roses on repeat...

I am finding it a challenge to write my blog during Covid.
There's not a lot of excitement here in The Humble Bungalow.

We are maintaining our small bubble of people to stay safe and not entertaining much...we have our closest couple over for social distancing happy hours in the garden but that is about it. We have not been "out" for a meal but have done take out about 4 times since early March.

I managed to get an appointment with my hairdresser...
the first one since mid December!

It feels so much better!

Voyage d' Hermes Arlesienne by L'Occitane and Figue Amour by Bastide.

I've been wearing perfume every day and pearls most days
even if I am wearing jeans and a simple Tee shirt.

These "little things" help to keep me focused on the "positive."

Dressing up occasionally
but mostly wearing casual walking and gardening attire.

I've tried harder to keep my FitBit steps up.

My weight is up 7 pounds.
My doctor reduced my daily Thyroid medication last Fall.
He said that I would really have to amp up my activity
and/or
drastically cut calories...to avoid gaining weight!

I am not happy about the number on the scale
but I will not perserverate on it right now...

I need comfort and less stress during the pandemic.
As we are constantly bombarded with grim news I turn off the TV and radio...
self preservation is a must.

I turn to the garden...
so inspired by the beauty of our glorious roses.

they are such a luxury.

My Stylish French Country box reveal!

What a treat to receive this beautiful My Stylish French Box.

Sharon Santoni and her team have outdone themselves yet again!
I don't know how they do it but I am very grateful that they put in the time and effort with this venture.

I want to share some of the beautiful items that were carefully wrapped up in whisper thin tissue and satin ribbons...

The theme for the May box was flowers.
I love those subtle soft shades of pink and grey.

Wee Espresso cups hand made by Sophie Masson
and the pretty Francoise Paviot napkins.

Rosa Damascena rose palettes by Carriere Freres
add scent to a closet or lingerie drawer.

A recycled wine bottle by Q' de Bouteilles
etched with "MFCH"
Will use this sweet vase for our wee garden bouquets.
I think it will be great in the green bathroom here in The Humble Bungalow.

Apica Exfoliant made with bee pollen...
I look forward to trying this gentle product to keep my skin glowing and healthy.

Look at this beautiful large floral silk scarf by Pertrusse!
It is so sumptuous!
I will wear this with my summer linen dresses...
and with my denim jacket and jeans.

I am a pearl girl and WOW check out these beautiful Gisel B earrings.

Love LOVE love the pearls...
my two favourite items in the box can be worn together!

I also have the pearl pendant from Gisel B
sent in a previous MSFB which will be lovely worn with these.

Such a luxurious assortment of treats to enjoy.

The timing of the delivery during this pandemic was most anticipated...

I would encourage you to try a box, they are now taking orders for August.
A little bit of French luxury delivered righ to your home.
You can visit their site to see more and read the comments left by box recipients.

Hope you are all doing well, staying healthy and sane.

Shopping my closet...casual denim for Spring

I have been wearing my go-to cashmere sweaters with jeans but with the sunnier days and Spring flinging our way I've been looking in my closet and thinking about dressing in lighter clothes.

Cailey 22 lightweight denim shirt
In winter I layer this shirt under my black V neck cashmere sweater.

Gap heavier denim shirt
this works alone or layered over top of a Tee or top.

Gap shirt
Eileen Fisher sleeveless top
Letol French scarf
(was included in a previous delivery of My Stylish French Box)

Gap denim dress
layered over a long sleeve Eileen Fisher top

(I may purchase a pair of white capri tights to pair with these two pieces)

A lovely scarf...
with
cheerful colours
heavier and can also be worn as a shawl.

Works really well with denim and chambray garments.

I am trying not to panic
after the recent announcement of the world wide Covid-19 pandemic.

Looking at the bright spots in my daily round.

I plan to do some "deeper cleaning" here in The Humble Bungalow.

Bathrooms, surfaces and door knobs will be disinfected.
We have not travelled on a plane or left the country and hope that people who  are ill will stay at home and self isolate.

Nice scented soap

Wash your hands well and avoid touching your face
to minimize your chance of getting the disease.

Make sure you have 2 weeks of non perishable food on hand
in case of an emergency.
(just like you would have in your earthquake preparedness kit)

Many people have been panic purchasing toilet paper and hand sanitizers.

According to scientists soap and water are more effective than hand sanitizers.

Of course we don't have access to these when we are in our cars
so maybe keep a bottle handy when you are between the shops and your home.

Planning to avoid large crowds...

Having had pneumonia 3 times in the past and at 65 years of age
I may be one of the demographic that needs to exercise more care.

Happy Weekend!
