The very first day of retirement...

Day  One
and a recap of the events yesterday.

I am officially retired as of today!
It's been a couple of months short of 25 years with the school district.

Packing up and saying goodbye to my colleagues was difficult...
but I am THRILLED to be able to start a new chapter.

Last day of work OOTD
I wore this soft white and grey hued Hermes scarf

my grey Lands End cashmere cardigan
Gap 1969 boyfriend jeans and black Mee Too ballet flats.

I got a chuckle when I noticed that Chester had posed in the photo...

if you have been reading my blog for awhile you might remember that he hopped into the dryer
when my back was turned and rode out a couple of spins when I turned the dryer on...
the noise and thumps were so loud I thought something was wrong with the brand new dryer
boy was he ever lucky!
I think that was one of his nine lives used up

Our BFF's met up with us last night and we went out on the town!
I used my my WW weekly Point Allowance and enjoyed a burger with yam bun!

We arrived early as there was a special event...
The Royal Canadian Scottish Regiment
pipe and drum band were playing outside the entrance
to a crowd of tourists and locals.

Aren't these stunning?
Waterglass Studios designed and created all the light fixtures

Intricate details and period lamps
 historic architecture
all blend together to create a warm ambiance.

loved these white foxtail blooms
set inside tall crystal cylinders

I am a fan of bevelled glass
this section of the pub is quite cozy and private.

This morning
I ran several errands
shopped for groceries
 did some laundry and ironing.

I headed out to French Vanilla for the latest edition of Jeanne d'Arc Living
when I was browsing the shop I found some gorgeous linen tea towels!

Sheila has such a flair for all things French
her shop is a treat to visit.

These are thick and plush and feel soft at the same time.
I adore linen towels...

It is lovely and hot outside.
The weekend weather forecast is favourable...

Canada Day is being celebrated on July 1st...
there will be musical events and fireworks.

I hope you will be able to follow my Humble Bungalow Blog when Google Reader is disabled July 1st.
It should be an easy transition if you opt for Bloglovin
or you can follow me by email
or simply type in
into a search engine window and you should be able to keep in touch.

Thank you for popping by!

  1. Congratulations on your retirement! I love the look of that pub, and would probably enjoy the ambience there...especially with a pipe and drum band outside.

  2. Congrats on your retirement Hostess and I feel sure you will discover new and exciting adventures and will wonder how on earth you managed to fit in working! I left education several years ago now and truly I adore being able to do my own thing.
Love this scarf and was shown it recently in store and immediately thought of you as I knew this design was part of your collection. I was tempted but had just settled on the Fleurs de Provence, a very pretty design incorporating soft shades which I think you would also like.
I love the atmosphere of a cozy pub.

  3. So happy to hear you are officially retired!

  4. Congratulations! You will miss school a bit but I think that you will enjoy your new life as a jubilada. The pub looks lovely. You will wonder how you ever managed to fit work in!

  5. Congratulations, hostess! Welcome to the world of 'time to do what you want'! ;)

  6. Congratulations !
Enjoy your " deserved, own time ".
Oh that Chester! He is playing with fire.
And you are looking so slim, belt and all!
Yes, Monday will be an interesting day for the blogging world.
    Last - Happy Canada day!

  7. Congratulations Hostess, you made it to the end and now the start of one journey!!! I am sure you will be busier than ever.

  8. Lucky you, I can't wait for retirement! I hope I look even half as stylish as you when the time comes.

  9. Congratulations!
You look really lovely and stylish...the grey theme is very smart. Looking forward to hearing about all your new adventures! I am now 4years away from 'school' and it has been a brilliant time for me, so much to explore.
    Best Wishes

  10. Congratulations!!!! I am so looking forward to retirement, but first have to figure out if I can afford it. And also congrats are yours for being able to stick to a good eating plan. Do ya think Chester will ever learn to stay out of the dryer???

  11. Looking good gel, ready for the next new venture.Like the belt buckle the way it draws the eye to slender waists.
The pub looks similar to ours over the pond.Lifting a glass to many happy days.

  12. Congratulations on your retirement Hostess and welcome to the world of life as you like it!

You are looking very slim and stylish - a wonderful way to start the next chapter:)

  13. Hostess, wonderful "getaway" outfit:). Enjoy your retirement and I look forward to hearing and seeing how you use your considerable energy now!

  14. Loved Chester photo bombing you! Such a little ham.

Congratulations on your retirement. I'm looking forward to hearing how you will get along and if you will miss work at all (I bet not!). My retirement could be coming up in the next year or two, or I may just keep working, I haven't decided yet.

    1. Same - I think you have to ease into the idea. I work at a school too and loving the kids makes it hard if its a nice school like mine and extremely busy but still enjoyable. I have been thinking about it more of late - possibly because I have two gorgeous little grandsons I would love to spend more time with. I guess we will know when the time comes? Kindly, Tonkath

  15. Congratulations on retirement! I know I sure enjoy it and am very thankful that I am able to have the time to enjoy life. I hope you enjoy your freedom and stay happy and healthy.
Beautiful pictures, thank you for sharing.

  16. Definitely a soft grey and white thing happening there with the outfit and tea-towels. I love those colours (not strictly colours??) together too. You looked gorgeous by the way. Tres chic. That cat is invincible! Kindly, Tonkath x

  17. Also, Glad the weather decided to celebrate along with you and Cover itself in Glory for your retirement. Congratulations! Kindly, Tonkath

  18. Congratulations! 'Loving everything in your post. You are going to have such fun!

  19. Warm wishes for a marvelous new chapter! And happy Canada Day!

  20. Hope the new chapter involves more painting time ~ your art is wonderful. Congratulations.

  21. Big hugs for your first day! On my first day, we jumped in our car and went on a wonderful trip to Nova Scotia. I felt so free, my desk all cleared away, training of new academic manager done, and the future to contemplate. My life post retirement has been very happy, full of new things, such as a new town, a new (old) house, new friends. I'm not a too-busy retiree though. I love the long interludes of quiet and time to read, garden, cook and just generally "be". I wish all these things for you, Hostess.

  22. Congratulations, L! You looked lovely on your last day - I laughed at Chester in the dryer! The Bard & Banker is always so nice - such a gorgeous space.

  23. Hurrah, retirement and now the fun starts! You can do as you please and it is wonderful. In a while you will wonder how you ever managed to fit in going to work!
Love your outfit. As you know, I'm a big fan of black, white and grey.

  24. Best wishes, Hostess, as you embark on this wonderful new adventure. I look forward to reading about all the new adventures, new themes that will capture your attention. Whatever you do, I know it will be done with style!

  25. Congratulations on your retirement!!

  26. Congratulations on your retirement! Enjoy the next phase.
