"Geek Chic" Goggles and a Bungalow Style Weekend

Weekends see me getting up later and lazing about in my robe longer
savouring the slow pace
listening to the sounds of the clocks chiming in the bungalow
as life ticks along...

Breakfast usually turns into brunch
with a light snack to follow later in the afternoon
before a hearty dinner of roast chicken or roast beef.

One skillet
brunch for two.

I had a play day and went thrift shopping with my daughter and BFF.
I found a butter dish in our everyday Maxwell Williams pattern

a large vintage English Johnson ironstone bowl
which will be fabulous for pasta, salad or fruit.

I picked up my new glasses
  "Geek Chic goggles"
(can you say investment glasses?)

I don't know if they are chic
  they definitely are GEEK!

I love them especially with my bright red Chanel lipgloss.
At my age I feel that I have earned the right to push the envelope...

I can see so much better now...
gosh
it's been 3 years since my last prescription
words were getting blurry, very distorted and wobbly.

If things get much worse I might need to get a seeing eye dog...
a Golden of course!

A Canadian band
who played at my high school...
there's a bit of a story...
I played the flute
and backstage my BFF and I met the band
we got autographs
the flute of Burton Cummings jumped into my hand
and he indulged me
and listened
a very nervous girl
who was somewhat awestruck
played a few notes
before their concert
my BFF and I were in the front row!

I have been cruising the internet for their songs...
check this out...
Bruce Springsteen
He's going to be touring soon
I hope I can be there!

Have a fabulous weekend

A weekend at your bungalow would suit me quite fine! (And re. the glasses...it's high time I get to the eye doctor myself! Your symptoms are MY symptoms. I think it's been FOUR years since my last prescription. I had one in between that turned out unusable and I gave up and went with my old one.)

Oh me too Hostess, I must book an appointment to have my eyes checked. I do like your new glasses. My glasses are black frames and I find them most becoming.

Love your new glasses! Tres chic!!
I am sitting here, looking out at the stunning sight, morning sky, snow covered trees, listening to music that is simply transporting me to a simpler time. I just love this!

Lazy Sunday over here too, buried in the snow..
White dishes are always in style. You have chosen your eye glasses well:).

I love your geek glasses, a lot of character and very chic.

Those glasses are fabulous, and suit your subtly witty style! Weekends here these days are mostly about getting errands done and finding activities to keep our petit monsieur entertained. Your white serving pieces are so simply elegant.

I absolutely love them!

I do like those new glasses! They are a bit edgy. You can carry them off very well.
Your weekend mornings sound a lot like ours - cosy robe, leisurely coffee, reading, brunch - bliss!

Rebecca- I hope that you make the appointment and have better luck with the prescription this time around.

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

Thanks Annie, my frames are dark tortoise shell brown but look almost black.

Cheryl, I just popped over to your blog and your snow images are spectacular! We have a wild winds here this morning which are not as conducive to relaxation.

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

Pavlova- I was curious what the reaction would be...so far so good!

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

Mette- White snowy days are truly beautiful to gaze upon...
our snow has melted and forceful winds are hammering our city.
Thank you! I deeply admire your elegant style which is reflected throughout your home.

Kathy- I feel like a bit of a character in them!!

Those glasses are FAB! Very stylish.

I love The Guess Who, great concert story! Burton and Randy are such great musicians and songwriters. I would love to see them play live, my sister has seen them play live two times in the last 3 years and she said she will gladly pay to see them again as they always put on a hell of a show each time!

deja pseu- I am sure that your life is busy with petit monsieur. Our weekends have changed considerably since our children have flown the nest.
I do miss those days...they grow up so fast.
We spent a delightful evening visiting our son, wife and lovely Isla. Lovely daughter was there too.
I sat down on the floor and played with toys and read numerous books with her seated on my lap and my heart was brimming over with joy and contentment.

Thank you Tabitha!

Pondside- Edgy is a great word to describe them. I hope that you have power at Pondside it's a wicked wind blowing down here by the ocean.

LR- I do like their sound and I'd love to see them perform again....but would prefer a smaller venue with seating as my days of standing for hours on the floor of an arena are so over!

Your style is evolving so wonderfully - so much delight taken in the details - to the point of mischief. And that butter dish slays me!

Those glasses are fabulous on you -- such a strong look!
And I can't believe you got to play for Burton Cummings -- at your high school, no less! I especially like their song "Life in the Bloodstream" and, of course, American Woman!

Your glasses are perfect. As one who's always been geek, its nice to discover we're chic, if only fleetingly. The Boss' new album and tour is big news around here; wouldn't miss the concert for anything!

What is that drop dead gorgeous utensil holder in your kitchen background?

Debbi@SheAccessorizesWell said...

Your glasses are very chic. And I love your Chanel lip gloss. I have one tube, not red, but I do love it.

Debbi@SheAccessorizesWell said...

Oh, and Kari asked about the utensil holder. If I am not mistaken, it is a McCoy flower pot. I never thought of one as a utensil holder, but what a great idea!

If it makes you feel any better...I've been in my jammies all weekend! Obviously I had no plans to leave the house lol!

Sounds very cosy for such a blustery stormy day in the capital city. Dinner tonight will be roasted chicken , potatoes and veggies. I must say I love the white bowl on your counter with all of your utensils. Is it a soup tureen in a former life? A day of thrifting is on my agenda soon too, what ones do you frequent ? Wondering if I am missing some good shopping and need to venture further afield. The new spectacles are wonderful too ! Donna

Perhaps I am a late bloomer...better late than never!

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

Thank you mater!
It's odd how opportunities pop up in our lives...It was a bold move on my part!

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

Kari- I have two of them and they are matte white MCCoy planters. I think the line is called basket weave. I bought both on ebay several years ago...I think you can still find them and the prices have come down lately.
I have seen Bruce at least 6 times if memory serves. He puts on a fantastic show and I hope that he'll tour in the Pacific Northwest again soon.

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

Debbie you've got a keen eye!
Isn't the consistency of Chanel wonderful? They glide on and stay put for hours. Worth the price IMO.

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

We're in good company!
I actually have put on LuLulemon yoga pants and a sweatshirt with my slippers!
I am making Osso Bucco for dinner while the wind howls outside.

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

Donna- If you email me I'll let you know where my favourite thrift shops are located.
bungalowhostess@gmail.com
The utensil vessel is a MCCoy planter I mentioned more details above in response to Kari.

I love your new glasses! The style will last you a LONG time--classic and a bit edgy and overall CHIC. The Bungalow sounds like the place to be on a Sunday although mine was delightful too--waking up from a nap to have a husband-cooked roast dinner and wine. And football. Did I mention the wine?

Love the white-ware!

Adrienne Shubin said...

I LOVE your glasses....really. They are so cool! I just bought some geeky glasses myself last week. Mine are pretty hardcore geek - not very feminine as yours are.

Yay for thrifting! xoxo

dannie said...

PS--thank you for putting me on to Sea Buckthorn. It is wonderful and has really helped my mom too!

I LOVE your new glasses...i noticed even before I scrolled down through your post...great new photo!

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

dannie- Oh you have had a lovely Sunday! It's such a luxe treat when the husbands cook!

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

Adrienne- Oh I hope you'll show us those new goggles!

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

dannie- Oh that's awesome news!

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

Annie- I feel a bit like Nora Ephron these days as I am trying to hide my neck!

Duchesse said...

What a great story!

SusanG said...

Your glasses really suit you. They look great with your hair.

Love your Burton Cummings story. Listening to him always takes me back.

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

Duchesse- I remember the event but it's not very likely that he would!

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

Susan- Music has that power. I even recall the outfits I was wearing when I listen to songs from the past.

Mummaducka said...

the new glasses are beaut. I think that if they are progressives a larger lense is the key, I think I got mine too small! I loove the utensil holder and am thinking of getting some of mine out of a drawer and putting them into a wedgwood countryware planter that I never use. I'll have to erect a shelf as I am trying to stick to a clear flat surface policy- and there is room right next to the stove.

Dear HHB,

Lt. Blk. Slashacrosstheeyes of the Fashion Police (5th Precinct), here. The Precinct has been snowed under. Mostly due the immense number of infractions and resultant arraignments made at a recently held award function that shall remain nameless for security reasons. (Oh, Sarah Michelle. Really?) Regarding your recent inquiry on the possible correctness, political or otherwise, of the donning of fur outerwear, the short answer is: You wear leather shoes don’t you?
But let’s see what the Code Book says:
Article II of Sec. 56(ii), tells us “Oftentimes an individual is the recipient of a vintage style of outerwear constructed of one or more animal pelts. This windfall can be considered fortuitus and no citations issued if:
a) it fits;
b) it keeps the wearer warm when exterior temperatures have dropped to the point of Freeze Your Patookus Off; and
c) you could never afford anything so luxurius even with your second income as a Street Harpie.
The wearing of the hide is also allowable under any one or a combination of the following circumstance(s):
a) when worn, the wearer is both holding the collar up and close to the cheek whilst making an entrance through any portal [i.e., the Ritz, a corner dive bar, a bedroom] of any room as it is not WHAT you wear but HOW you wear it – this is key;
b) a sultry stride of entitlement is utilized whilst making said entrance; or in the occurance of a bedroom portal, a casual lean against the door jam, one foot in a slightly raised position behind the other in a kittenish manner and sipping a bourbon;
c) you are Elizabeth Taylor.
However, what must be noted here is the additional importance of what the wearer is wearing underneath, or more specifically, not. If the wearer is:
a) nude or
b) a little Wacoal (very little); or
c) a satin and lace slip; then not only are there no infractions but kudos are awarded. Extra bankable points can be issued as well if perfume is to be found behind ones knees, one’s pearls match her slip and/or You Can Leave Your Hat On (Tom Jones version), or perhaps a little of Bronislau Kaper’s Butterfield 8 sound track is playing mistily in the background on the hi fi.”

So again, it looks like you’re in the clear on any possible infraction. Thanks to your Great Aunt Tirzah. And you know SHE liked her Tom Jones, even if she never said.
Yours,
Lt. B.S.A.
5th Precinct

They ARE progressives!
Mr. HB does not like a lot of counter clutter, only what is needed to cook dinners!
I hope your country ware is close at hand!

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

The Fashion Police have spoken and I will need some time to respond....it may be the topic of my new post!
