This fragrant rose climbs up onto our sun deck and is reaching for the sky.
Pruning judiciously and tying up those wayward limbs is on the list of things to do in The Humble Bungalow.
In the meantime I have plucked a few beauties and popped them in a jug which I have placed above the kitchen sink.
I can inhale the heady and intoxicating scent while doing dishes.
These peachy blooms were tight rosebuds when I cut them
a day later they are billowy and full.
This delicate shade of peach is one that I also like to wear on my lips.
Chanel lip gloss in Legende
adds a soft peachy shine
which I have been wearing for over a year now.
It's a wee bit quirky that I must have my lipstick or gloss
even if it is a simple lip balm.
I dislike the feeling of dry lips and often I will exfoliate with a toothbrush and scrub.
Dry flaky lips feel like barnacles to me.
You might think that I go through a lot of lipsticks.
I suppose I do.
Is the Hostess a lip-o-holic?
(perhaps)
While grocery shopping I recently discovered a new gloss
it's probably been around for eons but it was new to me,
it was incredibly priced and without testers available
I brought two home to try.
They are very sheer with just a blush of colour
moisturizing and smooth
and on sale for $6 each
great for everyday wear around the house and garden.
I am pleased that shades work so I did not waste any money.
I'll be using the Chanel Gloss when I go out
and I'll be saving money thanks to Burt's Bees the rest of the time.
Do you use any "bargain basement" cosmetics or skin care items?
Feeling lazy on a work night after a busy day in the library
dinner will need to be simple.
on the menu...
leftover chicken
a retro, home made (pantry friendly) Waldorf Salad
with baked potatoes.
Retro Waldorf Salad
2 cups diced celery
2 cups chopped apple
3/4 cup chopped walnuts
3/4 cup mayonnaise
Toss together and chill before serving.
What simple fare do you offer up after a busy day?

My favorite lip gloss is Bare Minerals 100% natural in Wild Honey---the perfect peachy golden shade, very natural. Love your roses!
Oh boy, Waldorf salad, I haven't had that in aeons, I utterly love it too, I had forgotten all about it. Funny I just asked someone about Burts Bees last week, I'd like to try their lip salve.
Lovely roses - there's nothing left here now, we're well into carpets of soggy leaves.
Those flowers are beautiful! And, I use that exact same Burt's Bees lip gloss - found it at the Fresh Market. Like you said, it's a great bargain stand-by for the more expensive brands.
I have a ridiculous amount of lip balms, glosses, and lipsticks...this, after I just threw out or gave my daughters about 20 tubes! I love Burts Bees balms but haven't tried the glosses, simply out of forgetting how great they are. As for cheap thrills, I use coconut oil for all sorts of things, not just cooking. It's a great shave cream, eye makeup remover, and skin salve. I'd use olive oil, but it reminds me too much of cooking that I get hungry right away!
The YSL lip glosses are also great. Heh, probably shouldn't have told you that:).
Hostess, the roses are amazing. Your flower supply never fails to impress me. Here in Houston, Texas, we have had to put our gardens by the wayside as we are 25 inches below normal rainfall with not an end in sight. As it happens, DH and I are traveling today to Portland, OR for a short getaway. We are desperate for some cool and green! Looking forward to some lovely tourist adventures in the area.
Hostess, I love warldorf salad. Your dinner sounds perfect and yummy. I don't like dry lips either and always wear a gloss if out or balm at home. My home balm is Burts Bees too, but the wind up one. When it runs out I will try the coloured ones you have. I have seen them here.

I have not used lip glosses for years. They wear off so fast. Maybe I lick them off ;?
Oh this rose is lovely!
I don't wear lipgloss, I need more color, but like you I can't stand my lips to be bare. At night I use a lip moisturizer.
I love Burt's Bees almond Milk Hand Creme...give it a try sometime, it's great.(-:
Did you say roses? That always gets my attention. :) Autumn Sunset is a lovely climber.
I discovered Maybelline SuperStay lip color a few years ago, and I was hooked! Put the color on once, and it stays on all day. Use their gloss over it to refresh the shine and keep lips from getting dry. Color 765 (Raisin) is my favorite.
My mother always served that Waldorf salad with pork.
I too love Burt's Bees gloss an the Maybelline SuperStay for work- as it needs to stay put. And for "Absolutely must stay put all day", Cover Girl Outlast- but you do need to condition your lips after using those permanent lippies.
The peach roses are gorgeous, and yes, I love using lip gloss. Dry lips are not fun. Waldorf salad sounds great. I would toss in some diced green onions.
I am a lippy lover too Leslie. Laura Mercier is my favourite, they have a great lip gloss...it lasts forevery. I love Burt's Bee's products, especially the honey body cream...smells wonderful!
I favour peach lip colours too and your roses are divine...along with your retro salad. :)

Your roses are so gorgeous! I go through tons of chap stick and my bargain beauty product is from Bath Bodyworks. I really don't like these places and they are in every mall, but my sweet father-in-law always gives my daughter and me gift cards to the store and a friend told me about Patricia Wexler skin care. The night cream is wonderful and inexpensive. i think I want to have a waldorf salad tonight!
The peachy blooms are divine Hostess.
My go to lip tonic is a very popular balm widely used down here, Lucas'Papaw ointment. Yes made from papaw (papaya).
xx
Burt's Bees is a staple here, in its many forms. I often forget lipstick or gloss and then get a shock when I look in the mirror at work!
Hello Hostess
Thanks for the tip on the BB lip gloss.
Will look out for it here.

Oh yes, Waldorf salad...I made it for one of our Mad Men parties a year or two ago, it went over well!
Lovely flowers!
I want to try Burt's Bees cuticle cream, but it's surprisingly hard to find. I will try London Drugs next to see if they have it.
I'm with you, Hostess. NO crusty lips! I use simple Blistex, one in my purse, one in my car, one just about everywhere handy. I recently saw the Burt's Bees shiny lips while reaching for the Res-Q ointment for, of all things, the treacherous bee stings my family and I suffered a few weeks ago. Will give the gloss a go. Otherwise it's Jason naturals & Dr. Bronner for me!
My lips can't live without a tube/tub of Carmex nearby. Lucas's Pawpaw is also a complete godsend, not just for lips but for any minor first aid type mishap. They are both highly ranked in the bargain department.
I can't stand dry lips either, I always rub my eye cream on and around my lips after my eyes! I use Glominerals lippies and gloss as they don't bleed all around my mouth. they too last all day as long as I eat with a fork or spoon. My ella bache one is great too but it tastes really sweet and I find myself licking it. A colleague at work keeps on harping at me how bad all these things are, coz we eat them. There's been a few TV segments about it here in OZ. I don't care , I'm not dressed without eyeliner and some form of lippie.
For dry lips, I use good ole vaseline. Thanks for the tip on exfoliating.
nothing beats leftovers for a quick, easy and soothing meal. and i can't stand dry lips either!
I'm with you on not being able to tolerate dry lips. I even put lip balm on before bed! Recently I purchased Chanel's Rouge Coco Shine which is a cross between a lip gloss and a lipstick. I love it! Even if I'm just wearing a bit of mascara and a swipe of the Chanel on my lips, I feel put together! Nancy
My current lip balm favourites are Weleda Everon and Alba Coconut Cream balm. For a punch of colour, I've just discovered Green Beaver (a Canadian company) Lip Shimmer in Bordeaux.
Around the house and garden vaseline keeps my lips moist. Chanel Incognito is my go to town lippie.Ida
