A Baby Shower celebration...my OOTD

My BFF's youngest is going to be a mom very soon and a group of women friends got together for a baby shower.
I loved seeing all the gals sitting in a circle smiling eagerly as they observed the very pregnant soon to be mom opening gifts. We were gathered together to celebrate womanhood, mothering and babies.

Emotions flowed and my thoughts wandered back to my own experiences of carrying a child within and the overwhelming joy that I felt when I held my newborn daughter for the first time. There were some fears that I might not know how to keep my baby happy all the time and would I make the right decisions?

First time mothers are navigating new territory and it is such a comfort having older women who have been here before to reinforce and encourage them to listen to their maternal instincts.
It's enough just to be there and listen,
make a cup of tea, or hold the wee one while the new mom has a shower and washes her hair.

I am getting ahead of myself though...it's the shower!

You know it's a party when there are balloons in the room!

Vintage Silver Cross Pram.
The baby will enjoy many outings travelling in style.

The shower had an owl theme...
and coincidentally one of the gifts that I gave was a velour sleeper with and owl on it and an owl soft rattle.
I knit a blanket for the crib and popped in some receiving blankets and some onesies.

Baby clothes were hung like bunting...

The beautiful christening gown on the left was made by my BFF's French Canadian great grandmother.
It was used for family christenings...and with several of the younger cousins expecting babies it might be used again in the near future.

Ooh la la cupcakes!

The table was laden with delicious treats which disappeared surprisingly quickly!

This wee owl was atop the tiered glass cake stands.

We were given goodie bags with English Bon Bons inside as we departed.
(I ate mine later that evening while reading my novel in bed.)

It was a lovely shower and I am so excited that my BFF will have her third grandchild in her arms very soon.
I can hardly wait to meet the baby...we don't know yet if it is a boy or a girl.

In the spirit of Faux Fuchsia I painted my nails.
OPI Peru-B-Ruby, an oldie but a goodie.

I wore my Eileen Fisher linen scarf.

Hand made earrings by my friend Peggy.

Anne Klein black tunic top and tights with Mee Too ballet flats

My nails looked pretty all of two days...
I am much too hard on polish to keep it on for very long.

I ate a healthy breakfast before heading out the door for my walk in the rain.
Scrambled eggs, pea shoots and salsa on a corn tortilla.
Keeps me sated until lunchtime rolls around.

On the WW front I am on the 6 weeks of maintenance and so far so good.
Fingers crossed I get that golden key and the lifetime membership which means I can weigh in and attend meetings for free!

Hope that your week has some fun packed into it!

That looks like such fun, that shower! And I was tickled to recognize the macraméd owl, the twin to one I made back in the early '70s. I wonder where that's ended up. . . I gave it to someone as a gift, but I'm sure it was passed along to Sally Ann long ago. . . .I have a lifetime membership to WW -- it's about 12 years old, but it was good to re-activate it this past fall when I followed the program again. I'm sure you'll be flashing your key around soon!

You looked lovely in that scarf and I do like your paws. What a fab party - did not know they now make dotty balloons. I love babies and pregnancy was just a magical time

The baby shower looks like such fun and the decor is adorable! I love your outfit with the leggings, and am salivating over your breakfast. Pea shoots are one of my favorites, not easy to find here.

I love your outfit, scarf + leggings. We have pea shoots, in the Asian markets! And yes, very wonderful to hand on motherhood.

I love the decor, with the baby clothes strung up. So cute. That vintage Pram is fabulous. Simply wonderful. You looked adorable with the scarf and red polish. I can only keep polish on for about an hour, so you're way ahead of me. Baby showers are just so much fun. Enjoy your evening. xoJ

She used to sell them...now she spends her time holidaying in Mexico in between her home here in Canada. I'll pose the question for you.

Firstly, happy birthday to you!!! Have been following your blog for a little while, and meaning to comment, so today when I saw that vintage silver cross pram and the inherited Christening gown, I knew it was time!!! They don't make prams like they used to. Love everything about this baby shower, and agree about the usefulness of having older women guide new mothers from their experience. You looked wonderful at the baby shower. x

That Silver Cross pram brought back some happy memories, its very similar to the one I had for my children. I didn't have a car of my own at the time and my Silver Cross was used daily to transport baby to the shops and the baby health centre, playgroup and to my parents who lived relatively close. Mine was a magenta colour. My three sisters used it after me. Wish I had kept it. Love the idea of baby clothes as bunting. Love a baby. You are looking amazing Hostess and inspiring me to stay on track. I have a couple of kg which crept on over Christmas still to get off. Tonkath

Had never heard of baby showers,American idea that has started to catch on here with the younger folk.Looking good gel,you deserve the key.

That is a lovely celebration, intimate and simple. Baby showers have become a bit ludicrous in this neck of the woods. People seem to try to outdo one another, holding them in restaurants with elaborate buffets. The guest lists can be quite large. I prefer a personal get-together with close family and friends. I sometimes make excuses to get out of attending these over-the-top functions and simply send a gift.

Closing in on that key and looking forward to free meetings!
You have been pretty dedicated to the program and all your running, even in the snow, has paid off as you look great!

I love a pram...have a green one downstairs and I cannot part with it even though it takes up considerable space...I joked with my husband that maybe one day I'd put dogs and a monkey in it like Emily Carr used to do and walk around the seafront!

There is something about all the maternal womanly pregnancy child bearing baby stuff that makes me get all mushy and sentimental.

I would have though Whole Foods would stock them...I bought mine is a regular grocery store in the produce section. Perhaps you would see them at a Farmer's Market? Good luck on your hunt for them as they are a sweet addition to a salad or a wrap.

Oh you must be over the moon! A grandchild is such a blessing and a gift...it is an exciting time for you all. Enjoy!

Grand parenthood is pretty amazing too...your nephew must be growing big.
Are you getting lots of rain? I heard that there was rain further up north and wondered if it had made it's way south yet?

Adrienne of a Rich Life on a Budget tried acrylic nails last year and she commented that they last for 2 weeks! You might like to try them...I might too!

FF has the best hair and nails and she makes it look easy.
I think it takes years of practise so I have lots of catching up....

The young parents these days want the more modern strolles like Bugaboo, which ee purchased for our son and wife. The Royals, Kate and Will have one as well and they could have had the best Silver Cross that money could buy!

I wore out the first set of wheels on our buggy as we had one car which my husband used for work so naturally I walked everywhere! It was a great way to keep in shape though and the fresh air did the kids a lots of good. We used to put them outside in the pram under netting for their afternoon naps...I don't think many parents do that these days.
