Nasty pain has been an unwelcome issue plaguing my upper back and neck.
OUCH!
I have had one massage and am scheduled for another one later today.
My masseuse has magic hands you'll have to trust me, she really is worth her weight in gold.
I think it must have been swimming laps at the pool that made these muscle seize and go into spasm.
I have been avoiding the computer and so there has been a lack on my part of commenting on the comments that you have so kindly left...
my shoulders seem to be up at my ears when I type so please accept my humble apologies...
In a magazine I was perusing I saw a new scarf trick which I liked very much because it felt less structured than my usual ties.
So I grabbed one of my Hermes scarves and simply tied in once and then on the second knot I didn't pull the end all the way through...
I'll pop a jacket over this and the scarf will add just a dash of colour
it will certainly say "rain rain go away"
and I hope it does!
The garden flowers are enjoying the moisture...
Last week when I went to the Spa
(salt scrub, massage and wrap)
they offered me fresh fruit and yogurt
tea and sparkling water.
Nibbling in the posh atmosphere wearing a plush white terry robe made me feel like royalty.
I did feel spoiled...

I have been indulging in French Vanilla Activia here in The Humble Bungalow
ever since...
I try to seize these snippets and savour them.

Ah yoghurt, I slurp down two cartons a day, it's one of my favourite foods.
Nice! I love the colors in that scarf. My back has been aching too, don't know if it's just age, or having been moving furniture and lifting boxes. But there's some advil in my future, no time these days for a massage.

we get thai massages. larry loves them too. it's not a fancy spa but those ladies do the trick. they walk on you and elbow you and use their feet even. we usually get a couples massage and we can watch ea other get brutalized!
Hope the aches go away soon, I know how horrible upper back and neck pain can be. It can limit almost everything you do in your day to day. :(

An aching back affects every part of a person's body. I see a physiotherapist regularly for mine, and try to keep my core strong with Pilates. I hope you feel better really soon.

Leslie: I sympathize about the back - me too! As soon as I find out what life is going to throw at me, I plan to book a massage, manicure and pedicure! Such luxury, I know, but so needed.

I hope you feel better soon. I've been dealing with knee pain and allergies. Yuck. I like how you tied the scarf.
When you start swimming laps, if it's been awhile, it's very hard on your neck and upper back. I'd suggest one lesson with a swimming instructor, to look at your stroke, and help you so that it doesn't keep happening. I know, because this happened to me, and one lesson was all it took.

So sorry for your pain in the neck. That is something I can relate to, having suffered from tension neck for decades.
These days, as I know mine were partly psychosomatic pains, I seldom have them, but when I do, I won´t hesitate to take painkillers first thing, as it only gets worse, if I wait.
Try to avoid draught, as it is the worst causer ( at least for me ). I even wear a soft shawl around my neck year around in the bed.
Riding the bicycle is bad too ( again the draught ). I can not imagine swimming either. But the good thing is, that doing stable work is good for my neck : ). Maybe you could volunteer to work at your sister´s stable ; ).
Anyways, try to relax your muscles over the weekend !!

That is my favorite yogurt too - the flavour is quite nice. Some yogurts can taste a bit fakey.

Another suggestion if you want to keep swimming - a lot of friends swim with a mask and snorkel so they don't have to move their neck at all. You get all the benefits of the workout, but no neck pain. Hope you're feeling better.

I think the Thai massage sounds a bit rough! I'd have it done if it helped my back though, I am fed up with this nonsense.

Honestly, I have tried everything possible with professional help and by myself.
Having realized the source of my pains ( through therapy ), I seldom have neck pain anymore. And I am able to know what has caused it.
So, sadly, it is trying to avoid the draught. Painkillers, and a Volaren gel ( or similar ) spread over the hurting area + rest.
For me, it is important to medicate myself as soon as slight pain appears, waiting makes life a hell.
On a walk through Oak Bay on Thursday, I saw a family of four deer dining out in a pretty little garden. What a shock!

There were 5 in the cemetery on Friday at dusk...
they are everywhere!
I had acupuncture right away and it healed quickly. I love swimming laps and have no problem now when swimming. Hope you're better.
As I have just boasted having neck pains seldom, last night I woke up with an extremely stiff neck; having difficulties to turn in my bed with the pain.
A quick analysis of it as I grabbed my medicine : I had done no physical work on Saturday, Sunday. At this certain age, staying idle, is bad for the body and soul.
Feeling better now.
