Family matters

Our annual traditional tree decorating Pizza Party was on Friday.

Our tiny  Charlie Brown Christmas tree was draped with vintage ornaments and glass garlands.

Vintage birds

German pine cones...
and
small glass baubles.

The littlest angel helped keep our spirits bright
her smiles and charms worked their magic.
She is the shiniest star in our lives.
We are so blessed.

Mr. HB's Mother had a fall and her caregiver thought that she needed to have an X-ray.

One phone call and
everything changes.....

Mr. HB spent the better part of his day sitting in the Emergency Ward waiting...
trying to keep his Mother calm and reassure her.

It's good that they went to the hospital because the X-ray showed a broken elbow.

We are getting advice from the orthopedic surgeon,
and await a consultation with her GP.
Surgery can be risky and  hospitalization will be somewhat unsettling for her as she is almost 94, likes familiar surroundings and a predicted routine.

I was at home preparing for our annual Family Tree Decorating Night while Mr. HB was with his MOM at the ER.
We had no inkling that her fall had been so serious.
I am so grateful that I could be kept updated by texting...
because my first reaction was to postpone the pizza party and rush up to help out...
it is so hard not knowing what's going on in a situation such as this one
and the waiting just escalates worry and fear.

The kids arrived and we ordered pizza and munched on appetizers until Mr. HB made it home.
The darling Miss Isla kept us entertained!
She had fun opening and closing the kitchen cupboards and taking out the contents and putting them back.
She repeated this many times and what a twinkle she had in her eyes...
she also left me a wee tomato lipped kiss mark on the glass at the front door
a sweet reminder that I will leave up for a few days because it brings me joy.

It's times like this that remind me of how grateful I am for our family and dear friends.

Friends and family really do matter.
hold tight
stay close
and hug often.

Hostess,
XO

Wishing you a Happy and Joyful Weekend.

That's it, in a nutshell - a Christmas nut, of course! Family and friends are all. I've been on the phone to Nova Scotia many times over the past three days, as my 85 year old mother has gone there to care for her older sister, who has had a stroke - she has no children, and is so grateful that her 'young' sister can come to help out.
Your tradition of tree trimming sounds a lot like ours, but we have cheese fondue each year as we decorate.
I hope all goes well for your mother-in-law.

So sorry that your MIL had a fall. Real bad timing too. Something like this seems to happen always just so unexpectedly ( ;
Hoping, that she won´t have to go through surgery.

Your tree is cute. The vintage birds, especially cute.
Wishing you all patience!

I like your tree very much: genuine, real ornaments and a celebration of natural beauty with twinkle lights!

My thoughts are with your family and MIL for healing and grace.

Bonjour. I have just found you on Vicki's blog where I read your comment about the Birkin book. I visited your site and am glad I stopped by. First things first, I am sorry your poor MIL had such bad luck just before Christmas. Bones do get very brittle when age creeps up, sadly. On a more cheerful note, I noticed you and I have a lot in common: We both love Hermés and Coco Chanel ;-) You might enjoy the story I wrote about Hermès and the Birkin bag two weeks ago. Michael Tonello was kind enough to contact me and start following my little Blog! I was really happy about that ;-) As for Coco, well... she does have her own category on my blog and that says a lot. Hope you stop by when you get a chance. Happy Holidays to you and your family, and I hope your MIL bounces back soon. Veronique (French Girl in Seattle)

My thoughts are with you all as I know only too well the heartache of sitting at the hospital holding an elderly loved one's hand after a accident.
Keep your spirits up as best you can and hold your precious family close.
The HB tree looks wonderful.

We visited MIL this afternoon and she seems to be in good spirits despite the splint, thankfully they have her on a regime of pain pills.
The GP chat will happen on Monday as he is not "on call" this weekend.

Veronique- I have spent the past half hour reading your blog and it is delightful! I was most distressed to read about the robbery. I welcome you to The Humble Bungalow! You enjoy Vancouver, BC and we LOVE Seattle trips!

Dear Leslie, I so agree - families do matter. I really feel for your mother-in-law as it must have been very distressing, having fallen and hurt herself. I hope that she heals very quickly. Your bird ornaments are lovely. My favourite tree ornaments are those quirky ones that my girls have brought home from school since pre-school. love Lindaxxx

Oh dear, I do hope your MIL gets the care and comfort she needs. How fortunate that she has family so close by -- my mother's been visiting a 90-year old friend who has no family other than a nephew in Ontario. So sad, especially at the holidays. Although I doubt your MIL feels particularly fortunate with her arm in a sling, waiting in a hospital. Wishing you all the best.
