Gratitude...

The attitude of gratitude has been a huge influence on how I view life.
It has helped me gain perspective
feel joy
and taught me to be content.

Our bungalow has been a "gift" in so many ways.
We have embarked on many projects over the years to improve and maintain
the interior and exterior in the historic arts and crafts style.

I had to learn to be patient as all the projects took time and money.
Time and patience have afforded me the opportunity to weed out and prioritize what is most important and helped me to figure out what I really wanted to focus on next.

I have been lusting after linen bedding for several years...
linen as you may already know is not an inexpensive undertaking.

I saved up for several months to purchase sheets and a duvet cover with shams.
When I found these at Lands" End on sale at 20% off I quickly placed my order.

We plan to redo our bedroom and build in a closet with drawers and doors.
The room is small and we plan to use wainscotting and paint the walls white.
The floor is dark fir and the bed and side tables are dark oak.
Blue and mocha will fit right in...

We slept on the linen bedding this week and I can say that I am so happy with the comfort and coziness of the sheets and they will just get softer with every washing.

Chester and Pepper are enjoying playing in the boxes...
I leave them in the kitchen on the floor for a few days as they love them so much.

How is your week going?
Are you following along with the new eating regime?
Have you been walking every day?

My leg muscles are a wee bit sore after amping up the pace on my walks.

The scale is not rapidly reflecting my new habits but I am not discouraged
as it is going in the right direction!

Try not to be obsessive about weighing every day.

I know the temptation is there...
when you do step on the scale do it at the same time every day
and try to wear the same clothes so you get an accurate reading.
( you may want to weigh in wearing only your "birthday suit")

Remember to drink lots of water.

Hope that you have some fun activities planned for the weekend.

We sleep on linen sheets and love them. YES, they are expensive but last for a long time. We've found them to be cool during our hot summers and warm in winter. The wonder fabric!

What pretty linen sheets. We have only white bed linen but even I think I could be tempted with a colour, provided it 'went' with our pastel green/cream with accents of rose pink bedroom.

Pouring with rain here. Yesterday was Summer today had rushed in to Autumn! My gardening exercise had therefore stalled but I had my Friday pilates class. I must stop getting on the scales everyday and limit it to once a week or I will become disenchanted. Loving your new bed linen, my favourite decorating combination.

Love your new sheets- the colors and pattern are lovely. My cat also enjoys cramming his ample self into boxes. In closing, the best advice I ever received while trying to trim down was "It's not about perfection- it's about persistence"

You can never go wrong with linen sheets; have had mine for about 6 years and love them so much!!
Good for you and the scales; going in the right direction...keep up the good work and drink lots of water especially in this heat!!

I don't think I've ever tried sleeping on linen sheets. You have me intrigued. I haven't walked as much as I would've liked this week due to the hear. I AM on track though and continuing with you in this attempt to get back to normal after a summer of eating like a 7 year old!

The sheets I bought two years ago in Cape Cod are already pilling which makes the bottom sheet feel a bit rough. Thank you for the idea of trying linen. Yours are lovely. I like to have home items last a long time so if linen lasts, the cost will be worth I.

And as I noted before, this week has been a disaster for dieting. Eating out has been the norm which I find difficult in counting points. Take today, for instance. My husband's cousins are in town from Florida and the family is getting together for lunch. Then my brother announced he is coming to town and will meet us for dinner. We don't get together often, so I couldn't say no. The trick will be putting together two restaurant meals that won't destroy my efforts. Oh, well, c'est la vie!

I find social eating in restaurants or trip planning with friends (and wine) to be my challenges but I've balanced by eating more fruit and vegetables and by drinking more water. Just adding a bit more walking will pay off by burning those extra calories.
I haven't tried linen sheets but I will need a new sheet set for winter. My bedroom colour is Balboa Mist with creamy furniture and blue/grey duvet cover so a flax coloured sheet set would not go amiss. Have you read The Summer Before The War by Helen Simonsen? It is my next library reserve. Bon week-end!

We are having a heat wave right now so all we need is the top sheet.
Linen feels so cozy and I am looking forward to having them get softer and more luxurious as the years pass...

White sheets always look so crisp and fresh...these linen ones come in white too if that is your colour preference...not that i am trying to tempt you!

I was out walking this morning just after 8:00 am...and it was quite pleasant but if I had waited until now I would not be going at all! Far too hot!

I know how the weather can alter ones plans to work in the garden...I do not like gardening in the rain either!
If you do weigh yourself every day you'll notice that it will fluctuate quite a bit...I weigh the least in the morning and by afternoon I can weigh a couple of pounds heavier...and that is not encouraging at all!

Persistence indeed...like that Aesop fable about the tortoise and the hare...slow and steady wins the race...

I am sipping homemade lemonade with ice...I have added a small amount of sugar to the lemons to make it palatable...a few extra points but I don't mind.

Keep up the good work Pondside...the only way I can stand to walk in this heat is early in the morning...we saw loads of people walking last night on our drive home from celebrating Mr. HB's birthday dinner out...it was dusk and just cooling off.

From all reports the linen will last years...and the cost per use will justify the expense. Our 400 and 600 thread count sheets were about $130 dollars a set and linen is about 2 to 3 times the cost when they are not on sale...you might find them at a lower cost somewhere else. I did not do a lot of comparison shopping I knew that if they were defective or if I was unhappy with them in any way that Lands' End would take them back without any hassle.
It has been a very social week here too...several lunches out, a birthday dinner and a garden party! Trying to watch and count points is challenging but I am trying!

I plan to read that book too as it has been on my list for awhile...
Just discovered this...to burn off one glass of wine I need to walk 5 km at a moderately brisk pace...!!!

Beautiful linen sheets. I added them to my list of purchases. Thanks for the recommendation. Being outdoors in the heat is nearly unbearable. Mornings and at sun down are a bit easier. Looking forward to Fall. To sweeten my coffee, tea, and breakfast cereal, I use NuStevia (found at Whole Foods). No after taste and all natural. Highly recommended by my PCP. Sounds like you are progressing nicely in the weight loss effort. Susan

Susan,
Stevia seems like a very savvy choice... Whole Foods will be here in Victoria in the Fall!
I will be able to shop there soon..
