All in a days work...

It's a home day today.
The weather is grey and gloomy and there is a chill in the air.
The kettle has been whistling merrily several times and tea is plentiful and soothing.

I gave my boots a lick and a polish to keep them looking good.
These have served me well for the past few years and I hope they will continue to do so.
I am a firm believer of maintaining things.
Even if you have but one pair of boots they should always look their best.

Is it just me or do your oven mitts get grubby?
I cannot abide a gooey glove.

Cashmere needs to be kept clean or the moths will go to town and feast on the yarn.
The new LG machine has a delicate wool setting and I tried it out.
The sweater was placed in a mesh bag and laundered.
It came out wonderfully!

It's not a dark and dingy space anymore.
I have a view out to the garden and the heated floors make it a cozy place.

Things are looking rather mossy and damp
typical for our January weather.

Chester is eager to get in on the action.
He is more of an onlooker than a doer.
He very nearly ended up at the vets this morning when he climbed into the dryer when my back was turned and I started the dryer only to hear some large banging sounds...
in a load of towels I thought that's weird and immediately investigated
am I ever glad I stopped it to check.

He seemed totally un-phased by the experience
I do hope that this has taught him a lesson.

8 to go.

How is the weather where you live?

LOL...poor Chester!! He is quite the character. I had a moth attack two years ago that annihilated most of my cashmere, wool and silk. Horrific. I'm also a firm believer in boot maintenance. I have one extra favourite pair which goes to the cobbler every winters end for refurbishing. The kettle is on here too. It's gray and foggy in SF.

Overcast and chilly in Courtenay, as is the case for most of the Island I expect. Inspired to hear of your success with the LG. We just had new LG's installed and am encouraged to hear of your success with the wool setting; I will buck up my courage and try a similar experiment this afternoon. Cheers, Kris

Bitter cold here *whimper*
My kettle goes 18 hours a day!

Bitterly cold also in Idyllic Village. I'm mostly indoors and doing similar maintenance tasks, Hostess--polishing boots and shoes, mending, hand washing. But I have strong tea and three exotic tulips to cheer me. Do you feel well again?

Oven mitts - I was just thinking about this yesterday, they are always filthy, there has to be a better option by now? Although come to think of it, I have seen silicone ones on TV, but I'm a bit of an old fashioned kitchen type.

I love everything here, well, except for the misadventure of Chester.

I had a weird day yesterday. I found out about salmon sharks. Did you know there are eight foot sharks eating salmon off Vancouver Island? Why didn't anyone tell me about this? lol It's in wiki.

Having all the new machines and the new quarters is exciting, isn´t it!
What luck Hester had, I am unable to stop my washer when started. Gosh, what a horrible situation.
Weather report: -8C, the sun came up for a few minutes. However, the road was extremely icy. I drove v e r y carefully.
Once again - not liking winter at all.

My (admittedly hideous) orca silicone mitt goes straight into the dishwasher after close encounters of the roasting tin kind. Never daring to show its face, it resides quietly in the second drawer down until it is required to leap into action. I cannot recommend highly enough

It has been very cold here in Ohio. Today it warmed up to the teens and I feel as it were a heat wave! I wash my oven mitts, but when they no longer come clean I pitch them and buy new. I love your new laundry room; we need to redo ours, but it is not on the list this year.

Oh dear, poor Chester. Glad you realized the problem and rescued him. I have feared this with my inquisitive kitty. We have a freezing rain advisory tonight which usually brings an ice storm - much worse than snow because trees come down and bring power outrages. I have laid in the firewood just in case.

Poor Chester! Let's hope he doesn't try jumping into the dryer again anytime soon.

This is why I never leave the dryer door open if my eyes aren't on it. I am so scared of a curious cat accident. I will close the door if I'm only looking away for one second. But I joke with my friends that the cats probably call me The Warden because of my hourly "cat counts" to make sure they aren't doing something dangerous.

How does -23C sound to you? Everyone in Montréal out walking has mufflers tied up on their faces; we look like bandits. Your new laundry is beautiful!

It was icy and cold when I set out this morning, and though the temperature climbed I never felt any warmer. The day had the sort of damp cold that settles in the bones.
I can well imagine just how much you're enjoying the new laundry room.

Your laundry room is really beautiful, and hope that you're continuing to feel better. Yes, about the oven mitts -mine get disgusting and I just don't like the feel of the silicone ones. I need a new pair. Poor Chester, although he probably had a bit of fun.

We are a balmy 11 degrees F. But the skies have been a brilliant blue which is rare for the Mohawk Valley. I wish my laundry area could be on the first floor. I know it would make such a difference. Since we flooded last year, I dislike the basement and go to a laundromat frequently to avoid it.

I am investing in some Williams-Sonoma kitchen mitts and dish towels. I bought some for my sister-in-law at Christmas and she loves them. Tossing all the old grubby kitchen linens.

I am slowly on the mend and have a new post which will explain things in a bit more detail....

I have a silicone one on the boat as we BBQ so much there as there is no oven aboard and I do not LOVE it but it does the job.

I am not surprised...the resident Orcas have some competition.

Fingers crossed and I will be checking each and every time before I push start!

It has given me a thrill to be honest mette!

Sounds bitterly cold Duchesse! I'd be wearing my vintage fur coat!
