White Wednesday ~ October OOTD.

It feel like a long time since I've done a White Wednesday post .
I haven't seen too many of these lately and when I first started blogging they were a very popular theme.
It's interesting to me too, that many of the original stalwart bloggers have stopped writing.

I suppose like anything the novelty wears off, and one's taste changes.
So without further adieu...

Welcome to White Wednesday!
The Humble Bungalow Crockery is featured...

While the focus is on white...
I wore my black and white basics today.

Hermes scarf
Barbour vest
Banana Republic Tee

Franco Sarto loafers
g21 skinny jeans

We might need to re-name Wednesday ~ Black and White Wednesday!

I got my hair cut quite short on my last visit to my hairdresser.
The reason behind this decision was to cut off the last of the coloured strands.
It is all natural now...
there is a lot of tinsel showing through.

~ ~ ~

Tell me what have you been up to?

May I say I think you look wonderful? The weight loss, the hair, the look in your eyes?

Your hair looks wonderful. And black and white is always fresh.

You look so good - hair, outfits - and rested. Must be the joys of retirement! White dishes are popular around here, too.
We're getting ready for Thanksgiving. Like you, I set the table the night before. Saves time and I enjoy puttering away, making it pretty.

I love White Wednsdays! Black and white Wednesdays are such a fun idea too.
Love your tinsel!! Retirement seems to agree with you.
My first grandchild arrived this morning! Oh joy. This will be fun.

Yes you do look wonderful! Oh I want to go and weed out everything in my kitchen that isn't white now, I love your plates and dishes.

The hair is great! You look younger with the shorter cut. Your glasses really suit you. Do you feel that you have a totally different life away from school?

Leslie, I think you shine in your photo! What am I up to? Well, up to my knees in brick and stone. We're landscaping with old bricks and granite (NH) from the local quarry. It looks as though it will never, ever be put back together, but I am optimistic that all will be finished by the time the snow flies. Then I can tuck in for the winter and enjoy the routine of home tasks.

I really like your hair. The natural color is very flattering.

Is your scarf 70 cm?

I also think your hair looks great. I'm in the process of going natural, aka growing out the gray.
A little worried I won't make it. Just wondering if you have any advice on this. I really enjoy your blog and your writing style. We are restoring a NW bungalow and it is a non-stop project, but very satisfying. I just started a watercolor class and find subject inspiration with your photos.

Your hair suits you and must be so easy to care for!

I love the hardware on your hutch. Is it original to the bungalow? I have similar hardware and draw pulls which are original to the house and I am hesitant to replace them. They have seen better days.

Great cut! That is not tinsel, it's grey hair- let's tell it like it is. How are you liking having grey hair?

Love your new look - the shorter length is fabulous on you I would keep it this length, and I also love the colour.

Funny thing Lorrie...I have started getting up quite early and getting on with my day so not a lot more sleep but way less stress. I think that's the difference.

I have come to white dishes after years of other coloured china...it's great to mix and match various styles when they are all white. I highly recommend it.

Oh yes my life is so much simpler...I am busier than I had imagined. I heard a retired woman lament that she never gets a day off and I laughed but I am finding out that it IS true!

I am not in the habit of offering advice but I'll tell you what I did...
I had my hairdresser put in a few highlights as the grey started to show up after several months of no all over colour. Then after 3 months I saw the pattern of the grey and just let it happen. Now we have cut off all those highlights and what you see is how nature intended it to be. I am not shocked at all, I quite like it.

The hardware is a newer version of what would have been on the cupboards if they had been the original ones, which they weren't as our kitchen was badly muddled. Mr. HB renovated it with an eye for what might have been there in 1912 and many people think they are original...he's a very clever fellow! There are a few companies that specialize in hardware for arts and crafts bungalows...look in the magazine American Bungalow for more information. They also have a website which might assist you in finding a company that makes new ones similar to your original ones...or just go with the patina and age that they are as they are an honest representation of your vintage home. Our bungalow has many quirks and issues that are not pristine by any stretch and we accept them. It's a choice we made when we decided to live in a heritage 100 year old home.

I love it! Seriously I wonder why I covered it up for so long.

Love the outfit and I love your dishes. I made the " white" switch" last year, got rid of all my dishes and went the white route. So clean and crisp. You make requirement look so appealing, just a few more years....

It is very flattering. One last question, how long did the process take overall?

Now to the bungalow, our house was built in 1916 and we have learned to love the imperfections. We have lived in it for 35 years and this wasn't always the case. It was a money pit for many years and we struggled with the small chopped up rooms while raising our kids. However, we stuck it out, reevaluated our values and are now so happy. Approaching retirement with no mortgage debt and on-going renovation projects to keep my husband occupied. He is also quite handy and has a very good eye for authenticity, which is a huge plus in keeping the costs down. The crooked floors used to drive me crazy, now I accept them as character.

Hair report ; It's month 6 and because I opted for a short cut it sped up the process.
Your experience and ours seem very similar...we have one room left to redo and it is our bedroom. The house trim needs a coat of fresh paint next spring but we are trying to sty on top of all the maintenance. Not as easy as you well know when one has a heritage home!
