My style ~ skin care ~ make up.

When it comes to make up I am a minimalist.
Using a light hand with just a hint of make up to draw attention to my eyes.

I wash and moisturize my face twice daily with an arsenal of products...

Avene from France
sold locally at the Pharmacy in the Village.

My weapon of choice...
a battery powered Olay brush
deeper cleansing
sloughing
and a gentle massage.

I love this tool and I think it has made my skin look better since I started using it.
My rosacea has settled down since using it so that's a bonus!

This enamel tin holds all my make up.

This is it,
all of the products that I use.

Organic Mineral sunscreen by Eminence
Lancome mascara
Great Lash clear for eye brow control
2 eye liners
one in brown for daytime
one in black for evening
eye shadow powder brush
eyebrow and eye lash grooming tool

eye lash curler
shadows for daytime in mauve, pink and grey
a darker shade for the smokey eye at night
basic neutral pink lip

Like most things here in The Humble Bungalow
keeping it simple seems to be the way to go.

What is your approach?
Minimal or maximum?

Minimal/maximal, as I have many variations of the same sort of "natural" look. Must do a de-cluttering soon. Do you not wear blush? I couldn't live without that and an under eye concealer.

Minimal - I also like Avene products. Just now with undergoing chemo, I have to be gentle with my skin, but a bit of make up is so necessary to make me look and feel good. I must look into the Olay brush. Peg - UI

Oooh how lovely and neat your make up looks.. I have to say I do have a little more than that - should really go through it all and get rid of things I do not use! You have inspired me. X

I used to have a ton of makeup-- I never packed it on, so to speak, but I had a lot to choose from and wore a different combination of colors every day.

Just recently, I've become a real minimalist in makeup. I'm fine with wearing pretty much the same look every day. I do change up my eyeshadow depending on what I'm wearing, but still, I stick to neutrals: peach, gold, and taupe.

I've heard good things about Avene skin care. My skin care is very simple: Almond oil to remove makeup, Burt's Bees body wash to cleanse, a daily peel (for acne), and sunscreen. I also have a moisturizer that I use, but only if my skin feels dry. Lately I've been using vitamin E to treat a small burn on my hand, and I've been taking the extra and smoothing it over my face as an overnight treatment. And I must say, it's been making my skin very soft.

I really like your enamel tin. Very simple. I've been using the clear Great Lash to tame my eye brows for years. Favorite make up: Bobbi Brown EXTRA SPF 25 Tinted Moisturizing Balm. It gives my skin some moisture, sun protection and a nice light coverage on my fair skin in one product. Worth the money. I also like Jane Iredale make up.

I have rosacea too. I might try the Olay brush at your suggestion. I'm always a bit reluctant to try anything that might be too harsh on my skin. I tried the Clarisonic but returned it as it was a bit harsh and drying. As my skin is changing and getting older/dry (I don't have the budget for regular facials anymore) I need to do something but have not figured out what.

As I've gotten older, I'm now minimal on makeup but am more focused on cleansing and skincare.

Wow, your cleansing arsenal is huge! Do you really need all those things? I mean, your face does not get that dirty.
I guess my " makeup kit " has about the same amount of products as you have, including the blush.
However, there are lots of days I only " organize my brows ", that´s all ; )

That is a maximalist amount of skincare! Mine is Scrooge like in comparison, I like to keep things as simple as possible when it comes to cleansing and make up.

I recently began paring down my makeup, too. I generally don't wear lipstick, just gloss and I save the full-face thing for special occasions. Minimalism seems to look better on older skin. However, purging my stash has been a project. I have never met an eyeshadow I didn't like. My approach to the makeup counter at Macy's is like Homer Simpson's at a candy machine. Did you find it difficult to part with your collection?

Oh to be in Canada where the local pharmacy stocks Avene....I have to order mine via Amazon. I do think it is best to have an arsenal of skin care products and minimal make up. You can try to make up for bad skin, but it is hard!

Oh how I wish Avene was sold at the pharmacy. I love the spring water spritzer. Unfortunately I have to go to a clinic to purchase it. I may have to check for it online. I try to keep things as simple as possible.....a good face wash and a moisturizer for face and one for eyes. Makeup the only thing I will not go without is mascara and a lip balm. Everything else is optional.

My makeup stash is similar to your own Hostess, I believe less is more as we age. I use a Mia Clarisonic nightly for a deep cleanse and have found this wonderful for my skin. My skin care is quite basic as well.
I love the tray you use for cosmetics.

Hi Hostess, I have a Clarisonic Mia, but I don't use it every day - maybe 3 times a week. Otherwise I use the hot cloth cleansing method with a muslin cloth, using Cera Ve cleanser in the morning and Spiezia Cleansing Balm (from the UK) at night. My make-up is like yours, neutral colours. I use the Cera Ve moisturizer with SPF for daytime and a fairly cheap night cream from Simple. I do love skincare and have eyed up the Avene products in Shoppers, but as yet haven't tried.

No blush or under eye concealer...
I blush regularly!

Shoppers carry the Olay brush, I think it's around $45.

I read somewhere that old make up has germs so it's probably a good idea if you are not using a product to recycle it.

Mrs. M ~ your regime sounds very healthy and green.

Kristien62 ~ I have never had a huge amount of make up to begin with so it wasn't too difficult. If I collected lots like it sounds you do I think I'd be loathe to pare down.

If you have a flare up try some Sea Buckthorn Soothing Salve it really helps me, but since I have been using the Olay brush I have been fine. The Avene line I use is for skin which is sensitive and prone to redness so it helps keep my skin calm and moisturized.

I would not say my arsenal is huge...and yes I feel I do need all of them.
I use 5 things;
Eye Make up remover, cleanser, water spritzer, serum and moisturizer and eye gel.

What do you use Tabitha?

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

Good luck finding some online.
Tish Jett in France gets hers from the pharmacy but then it is a French product...perhaps your local chemist would bring it in for you if you asked?

I have only a wee medicine cabinet so the tray was the best way to have them handy yet hidden.

They have sample sizes to try if you are interested...and I think the price point is pretty good.

I love your tin/enamel pan!

Hm, I'll look out for those, thanks!

I " need" 3 products + warm water and a towel. A face & body wash lotion, eye cream and a face moisturizer ; ).

On a daily basis, minimal, but will go maximum if I’m going out in the evening – not that I have to worry about that right now :-)

I treated myself to a soft pink lippie yesterday – totally minimal. I’m on a quest to find a tinted moisturizer, as my skin really changed with my pregnancy – not as easy as I thought!

Love how neat and tidy your products are stored!!! Reminds me … should wash my make-up brushes!!!

The difficult part is realizing how much money you have spent. And you also begin to realize that you could not possibly use up the amount you have collected, so you are wasting. That is abhorrent to me. But I also know that products do expire. So I am doing my best to toss the old, use up the new and learn a valuable lesson.

I love that Olay brush and use it religiously. I have make-up for everything. It takes a lot of work to look 'natural.'
