Constance Spry...a pink scent~sation.

The wicked wind has pummeled the Constance Spry climber on the front pergola
and her petals are scattered along the front path.
Littered sadly and a few blooms were sheared straight off...
Never being one to waste the blooms I gathered up a few.

Constance Spry
a David Austen Rose

frothy pink

masses of petals wait to wilt atop the gravel path

just looking at this rose makes me feel calm

like a mound of pink sherbert

Looks good enough to eat!

I'm surprised that these tall foxgloves didn't get blown over in the storm.

Life has amped up to a rather frenzied and hectic pace these past few days and for the next few weeks will be more of the same...
so please bear with me as I go with the flow!

Chester and Pepper
have had close encounters of the feline kind.
They are really interested in each other
and have been sniffing each other's noses.

Chasing and racing around the Bungalow
scatter rugs and carpets flying in their wake...

Pepper is never far from Chester's side,
she's behaving like a mother cat
which must be instinctive because she has never had a litter of her own.

Chester has made himself right at home in The Humble Bungalow!
It's been just over two weeks since we adopted him and he already feels like family.

I cannot imagine our bungalow without a pet
it would feel so empty.
~ ~ ~
Adrienne has a new addition to her family
go over and meet Miss Twiggly she's adorable.

Hope that your week is ticking along nicely.

It can be heartbreaking to see all those beautiful rose petals on the ground - we are in the same sorry state here, and being sopping wet some trailing branches have gone over completely. Good to bring a bloom or two inside so you can really enjoy its beauty close up - its easy to see why this rose never goes out of the David Austin list.

Your cats are terribly cute - do you find youself just staring at them for hours?

That single rose in the cup is delectable, such a simple and sensual image. Glad to hear the felines are getting along!

Constance Spry is one of my favourites, but ours seems to be the tardiest of the bunch. All her kin bloom around her, but she's being coy, wanting some coaxing. . . So I thank you for sharing yours and may follow your lead, nestling one or two blooms in cups once they're in full blossom.

I adore David Austin roses, and Constance Spry is one of my favorites, too! So pleased to learn Pepper is accepting little Chester. I had my worries that The Diva Kitty wouldn't take kindly to sharing you, but it's terrific they're learning to get along and to play. A home without flowers, pets, and books is not a home I ever want to experience.

It's a gorgeous rose. I read somewhere that rosaries were once made of beads fashioned from rose petals, but I haven't a clue how it is done.

Me too David Austin's roses are just beautiful. And how cute you have a new addition to the family - wonderful and I love his name too... So sweet of Pepper to be 'Mommy" (Sorry only just playing catch up on blogs and some of your older posts - your darling Isla is adorable - she really is - gosh cannot believe she has turned 2!) Have a great weekend. x

The rose in the cup was beautiful. You were right. . .it looked good enough to eat. Pepper and Chester will be best buddies for life. Sounds like they are having a good time together. I can't imagine my home without a pet either. Have a wonderful weekend!

Getting ready to plant my rose garden in a few weeks - still too much construction going on. I found a place in LA that supposedly has a great supply of David Austin Rose, so I'll be paying them a visit soon. Your roses have been a real inspiration.
Happy that Chester seems to be settling right in - he's a lucky guy.

What about gathering all the blown rose petals and turning the tabs on in your bathtub ?
A heavenly experience, I´d think!
The small kitty looks so innocent. Sigh.
Waiting to see both cats in the same picture!

The cats move around a lot so not too much staring is involved. That David Austen rose Royal Jubilee looks magnificent! I hope they export that variety to Canada.

There's still some hissing and a few swats happening but I think it's because Chester is so rambunctious that Pepper feels compelled to keep him in line.

I wonder if your Constance is located in a shadier area of the garden, ours is in full sun.
I think your Royal Sunset blooms before ours and ours faces west and has shade part of the day.

They play together until Pepper gets tired or annoyed...we have been trying to give extra attention to Pepper so she won't feel usurped. Our aim was to give Pepper some cat companionship.

Oh two is definitely the maximum for our tiny bungalow!
Can you send us some sunshine...it's not ideal weather to tend the garden and it needs some TLC.
I am amazed to see the before and afters of the creation of your cottage garden.
Have fun this weekend Janet.

What pets do you have Lori?

Which DA 's do you love and grow?
Have you got the new Jubilee rose?

Kathy I would be so excited to have a new home and be in the position to plant a dedicated rose garden...are you planning to plant roses for their perfume, colour or growing habits?

Filling the tub with petals sounds pretty..buy messy!
I have a few together snapshots of the cats but not one that is blog worthy.

ahh- we had a cat that looked so very similar for almost 15 years. I wouldn't exactly say she was "sweet" but she was wicked smart and beautiful and just nice to have around. We miss her.

Exquisite; have you seen materfamilias' roses on her blog today? Thank you!

Constance Spry was the first Austin rose introduced to Southern California and it created an immediate sensation, and well it should have because it is so beautiful.

Miss Twiggley appreciated her welcome from Pepper and Chester; thank you. I imagine how cute they are playing together and having fun. As for me it is wonderful to have a companion again ( she is laying next to me as I write this) It has been a very empty house without a feline friend.

Currently, I have 2 mini dachshunds. They are brothers but not from the same litter. Before them, I had a Yorkie (15y/o), 2 cats (15 & 20y/o), a German Shepherd (9 y/o). I'm like you in that my pets are part of the family. They are my babies.

Our first cat Stickley was 18 when she passed away from renal failure. Losing pets leaves a huge hole in our hearts..or Golden Retriever Rufus was our baby and was faithful for 13 wonderful years...
Slim you might just be ready to take on another cat!

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

Yes her roses are lovely and she has a green thumb to boot!

Where about in NZ do you live?
I want to know so much more about New Zealand...
one of my former co workers retired there,
a high school friend moved there eons ago and my lovely daughter has met someone special who hails from there...

Adrienne your life will be forever richer because you have opened your heart and your home to a kitten.
Hope that your weekend is a happy one!

For all of those reasons, but really just because they're so beautiful.

No, ours is in full sun also, and faces south -- we just seem always to be a week or two behind Victoria. The Royal Sunset has been blooming for about 2 weeks, yes, but it's also in a sunny, south-facing spot. Interestingly, the rugosa Hansa out on the oceanside, so facing northwest, contending with seaspray, etc. bloomed first, despite being in the worst location of all. Something to be said for those scrubbier but hardier fellows.
