October in The Humble Bungalow...

BOO!

Snippets from The Humble Bungalow.

October has flown by...it has been a bit of a blur.
Where does the time go?

Copper tray on the buffet...
Ojibwa duck decoys
white mini pumpkins
a dome with a dried allium inside

Vintage
First Nations woven baskets on the shelf above the built in buffet.

Fortnum and Mason baskets
with a
pudding bowl

I love baskets and have quite a few in The Humble Bungalow.
They are handy for storing things and I leave them out on display as I like the rustic natural effect they give to the decor.

Antique basket
First Nations tray on ledge
tarnished vintage silver

dried hydrangeas in a copper vase

A peek inside the drop front arts and crafts desk

Surprise!
a headless "scarecrow" in our spare lot
someone is into the "Halloween spirit!"

Happy Halloween!

How is your week going?

Hi, I've recently discovered you blog and love your style. I live in an 18th century house in England, am a year older than you and I am also a retired teacher.

It's looking very autumnal in the bungalow, so cozy I love it. I hope you and the family are all well and enjoying the fall. Happy Halloween, such a fun night for the little kids! xx

I really like that jack-oh-lantern light in the first picture. Is it part of a string of lights? Or a stand alone?

Hi Dani,
We are well thank you...how are you all doing? I have missed your blog posts are you taking a break?
Lots of cute costumes on the little ones! Think we bought too much candy though 😜

It’s one of a dozen pumpkin lights on a string. We have plugged them in our front window every night this week. Will take them down later tonight after all the trick or treaters have
Gone home.

It is always a delight to look at your beautiful arts and craft pieces. I am very taken with the Ojibwa ducks, which are full of charm. A basket collection is beautiful. Happy Halloween!

Humble Bungalow looks so cozy-I love woven baskets as well, there are a lot of nice ones in our open market
Halloween is not celebrated here-masquerade and "tricks or treats" children travel from house to house is usually on Carnival Tuesday before Ash Wednesday

No I don't write a blog, its something I have been thinking about for ages but haven't done anything about it - or got my head around the technicalities!

Blogger is pretty easy but you could always hire a tech savvy student to help you.

Those ducks keep multiplying here! When I see them at the shops or second hand I have trouble not bringing them home!

We had about 50 trick or treaters last night and we nearly ran out of treats! Our grandchildren stopped by too which was so sweet and special. It made our evening!

Lovely decor at the bungalow. Halloween is a favorite event. The kids dressed in costume are all so adorable. I had a Harry Potter that looked like the read deal. Mannerisms and all. Now I'm enjoying the left over chocolate truffles. When the rain stops, I'll finish closing down my gardens. Cold, frosty nights are now the norm. Susan

BEAUTIFUL BASKETS.

It's now when we really appreciate a cozy warm, dry home. The month of November seems made for coziness. Woven baskets like yours add beauty and texture to a house. Happy November days to you.

Trick or treating seems to have disappeared around here. We did not have a party for the children at the complex centre this year and I heard no voices from the adjacent houses. Baskets are such a decorative way to store whatever's around. My old silver always needs polishing.I think I like it tarnished.

I love the peeks you give us of the inside of your lovely home. It is so cosy and Autumn suits it.

There are so many ways to use baskets and I love the organic and natural look they bring to our bungalow...very autumnal too!

Hope you are cozy tonight Susan and that your garden is closer to its winter slumber.
Time for some cocooning...

Its interesting what speaks to us when we are out hunting for things to add to our homes...and so many of the things we buy are variations on the same theme.

The weather this past weekend and so far this week has been amazing...loving the colourful fall foliage so much. Always feel grateful for a roof over our heads...
wishing you a wonderful week.

Maybe the family demographics have changed in your area?
I don't polish all our silver....most of it gets a regular clean but I leave a few pieces tarnished.
We were surprised that we had more tricksters at the door this Halloween. Our neighbourhood has quite a few new families...which is nice as I love the sounds of laughter and excitement when they are outdoors playing.

The style is dark and kind of moody which is very autumnal! We need to turn on lots of the lights and lamps to be able to see where we are going or risk stubbing our toes.
