The Humble Bungalow Garden is starting to fade...
the hydrangea blooms are drying up
Jude The Obscure Rose
October has arrived with a new flush of roses...
petals fall littering the ground like confetti.
The Hostas are wilting
their leaves turning gold
The temperatures are chilly
not conducive to sitting on the front porch.
Lovely Limelight Hydrangeas
I cannot remember the name of this climbing rose...
anyone know?
Another peek at Jude The Obscure...
I never tire of this rose
the heady fragrance and full cups of frothy petals.
Reading has taken a front seat of late...
I absolutely LOVED this book...
the subject matter is rather serious but my goodness its a good read.
I could not put it down.
The wind is blowing the leaves around the garden today.
It will be time to get the rake out soon...
"Autumn is a second spring when every leaf is a flower."

I went to the garden centre and bought some pretty red cyclamens for the planter
and
while I was there I purchased a green pumpkin or squash!
I have started a new book...
We will be celebrating Thanksgiving this weekend...
Taking time to ponder the joys in life
feeling immense gratitude
and
giving thanks
for the abundance of life
our family
with thoughts of those who have passed on
and
last but not least
our wonderful friends.

Happy Thanksgiving!
My hydrangeas look so sad. As do the roses. It has been very dry, no rain since early August, with relentlessly gorgeous and unseasonably warm days. Wonderful for staying outside but the plants are suffering. To water without "watering," I am using tricks from my time in Africa, not wasting a drop and gathering it all to put on the garden. It isn't enough though.
I enjoy your blog so much. Your garden is just beautiful, and I always love to read your wise words. Happy Thanksgiving !
Thank you for your lovely, homey posts. I think your garden still looks very nice.
I like Fall but it is a bit sad to watch the garden wane and leaves fall. That said, I do like the 4 seasons. Your roses still look quite nice. The chill in the air is ever more present with each passing day. Susan
Your garden might be in the midst of autumn but it is still lovely.
Happy Thanksgiving!
Happy Thanksgiving. We "blog readers" are thankful for your blog!
Your home is just beautiful :)
Happy Thanksgiving!
Thank you for the Camus quote-I've seen it for the first time
Your photos are beautiful as always
I've changed my balcony pots display for winter-heather and elfin cypresses

A friend just returned from her first trip to Victoria and was astonished at how many roses were still in bloom!
"Rue Amelie" has finally arrived from the library so that is on my reading list for next week.
I am thankful that I am spending Thanksgiving with friends this year so no cooking - I am taking the pumpkin pie.
Thank you for your lovely blog and all the effort you put into it.
Your blog is always such a lovely, peaceful place to land. Your autumn garden looks beautiful, I love fading hydrangeas. Have a very Happy Thanksgiving and I hope you'll share what you made.
I do enjoy the autumn garden! I'm going to put in bulbs and winter pansies in the parking lot gardens. I love all things Thanksgiving (pumpkin, squash etc.) I've got my gourds scattered around the apartment and soon it will be time for the witch.
Beautiful Leslie...

Just love your house and garden !
Your garden is beautiful and inspiring. So is your writing. Thank you.
That's the one problem with hydrangeas and roses, they are so greedy for water...
good for you for being mindful of the water supply. I should do more of that myself.
Hope you are having a lovely weekend Patricia!
Its always encouraging knowing that my little blog speaks to people like yourself Jeannine. We share an appreciation of the the simple joys in life!
Oh it is chilly here too...but not as cold as Alberta where they have snow! So no complaints from me!!
Your garden must be going through some seasonal changes by now...although your weather stays hotter longer than ours does up here. Hope you have been enjoying the weekend.
Thank you for those kind and encouraging words..and thank you for reading my blog and commenting...for that I am grateful :-))
It's a classic craftsman bungalow... "an oldie but a goodie!"
Your balcony must look lush and green...gardening in pots is so much easier than maintaining a perennial border! I am moving towards more potted plants...
Hope you are having a nice weekend.
Hopefully your friend will share some pictures of her trip here with you.
There are many roses still blooming here...I loved that book and hope that you will too.
Pumpkin pie sounds wonderful...so autumnal and perfect for a Thanksgiving dinner.
Oh and with the crazy events in the news!!!
a few minutes of peace is exactly what I crave too, so I am happy to hear that you found some quiet time here on the blog!
I would love to see some pictures of that garden...it sounds so pretty.
AH yes those witches will be out and about very soon!!!
Thank you Ali...Hope you are having a lovely Thanksgiving Weekend.
XO
Happy that you popped by for a read of the humble blog...and for taking the time to say hello!
Your Jude the Obscure is the most gorgeous rose - and even more so in the Autumn as nature turns to gold. Love the shots of your porch and garden.
YOUR GARDEN ROCKS!!!!!!!!!
I LOVE FALL AND I THINK THE GARDEN IS STUNNING AT THIS TIME of YEAR!
I PLUCKED A CANISTER of BOLERO BLOOMS LAST NIGHT TO FILL MY KITCHEN WITH FRAGRANCE!
MAKES ME SMILE............XX
Jude the Obscure is stunning...I know that David Austin has many other beautiful roses and we have quite a few of his but this one stands out head and shoulders above the others in our garden...if we had a huge patch of land we could grow more but then there would be little time for other things so I must be content with the roses that we already have! Autumn is a pretty time of year with the various shades of foliage...enjoy your week Patricia!
OH Bolero blooms...I am not familiar with that name...off to look them up...flowers add so much don't they? A wee bit of happiness in a vase...
