A giveaway and a recipe...

PHEW!
It has been busy here in The Humble Bungalow!
I need to catch my breath...

Living life fully, and being present in the moment comes first,
reporting and recording events here on the blog are second...
I hope you appreciate that fact.

Shopping, knitting, running errands, volunteering at my club, and hanging out with the grand babies...
have been keeping me hopping...and I LOVE it!

Church Mouse bias loop scarf cowl...

Does it look better with the Gala apple?
I ate this as my WW friendly afternoon snack today!
This scarf is keeping my neck so cozy on my walks.

Surprised to see a mauve hydrangea blooming in our front garden...
grateful for these gifts from Mother Nature.

An old recipe but a good one...

Yummy...
serve with rice and a crisp vegetable.
Hope you like it!

Tis the season...
and my gift to one of you is...

Weight Watcher Book...
I would like to give this book to someone who likes to use their slow cooker.

Please leave a comment and tell me why you would like this book
I will ask MR.HB to help me decide on the recipient...
I will keep this open until November 30th.
Good Luck!

Happy Thanksgiving to our American Neighbours...

What a mean spirited giveaway!
Other bloggers draw a winner at random, which is the only fair way to decide a winner
What a grinch, bah humbug!

My slow cooker has become one of my favorite appliances which is used every week. My husband of 42 years still works but I am recently retired from my secretarial job at the local high school. I enjoy cooking and love trying new and healthier recipes. Coming home to a fragrant, simmering meal prepared in my slow cooker is a wonderfully simple pleasure.

Your scarf is lovely! My husband is allergic to peanuts so we can't have Thai food. I don't use my slow cooker although I always mean to. Perhaps I could give it to my daughter who is doing more home cooking and who is beginning a huge weight loss journey. She will be working with a nutritionist to learn to eat healthfully. Happy week-end!

Time being present is so critical and time with your grandchildren is priceless!! It's so fun to see your knitting. I'm anxious to finish my grandsons Chtistmas stocking so I can get back to mine! Have a lovely day.

Just ignore comment #1-don't take it to heart!
I live in the mountains & have not been able to walk for 2 years due to a knee injury. The result is that I have put on an additional 10 pounds to my already chubby body. I will be getting my new knee in the spring & the biggest thing I am looking forward to, aside from the freedom from pain, will be walking on the trails near my home. I love slow cooked meals, as I cook on Sundays for the week's lunch. I am an avid reader of your blog, and I'd appreciate being considered for your giveaway. Thanks for your gentle outlook on life and the beauty you share from your Humble Bungalow.

Thank you Mary.

Madame I hope your daughter is successful in her weight loss journey...
I know how challenging it can be.
The support that Weight Watchers gave me was an important part of my success but I did not have a professional nutritionist onboard.

The days spent with my grandchildren just seem to fly by!
We pack so much play time and fun into the visits...I'd love to see the stocking that you are making.

Hi Carol,
The rude commenters who hide behind the cloak of anonymity are called trolls.
I prefer not to engage in the negativity so I turn a blind eye...

You will appreciate your new knee and the trails and walks will be such a wonderful reward for your patience waiting for the surgery...
I recently had a sore knee and was quite worried that my walking would be curbed but after a few days of rest ad short walks it went away.
Enjoy your weekend!

I would rather be a troll than a mean grinch
If you are going to giveaway items, draw a winner from a hat, we all know you will simply give the book to a reader you personally know or have a preference for
Seems unless you kiss ass in the comments, you are deemed a troll, if having an opinion makes me a troll, fine.

No thank you on the giveaway as I do not use my slow cooker much. Love your cowl, very pretty. Also, thank you for what looks like a delicious recipe.

Such a beautiful scarf ...gorgeous colour and texture. It would be lovely to see a picture of you wearing it. I have two slow cookers. One that I received as a wedding present ...over 35 years ago (it still works perfectly) and a larger one I bought, when I needed two for cooking for a large number of family and friends on New Years Eve. I'd be lost without my slow cookers! :) as would my son and daughter who both have their own homes now and like me love coming home to a wholesome home cooked meal at the end of the day ....especially when it's chilly outside! The idea of weight watchers recipes is ideal. Perhaps you may be able to share some of them with us all? ie those who aren't lucky enough to win the book.
Definitely ignore all the "trolls" and their mean spirited comments. Don't let them upset you.
Have a lovely weekend.

You can choose a winner anyway you want to...don't pay attention to the mean and un-classy commenters! Why do they even read your blog, anyway?
I want to use my slow-cooker more, and WW recipes are so healthy, and usually simple. I've had good luck with them.
The Thai recipe looks good too...all in one pot and throw it in the oven!

Reading your blog, Hostess, is like being invited into your house--your home, so your rules apply. I'm amused trolls like Anonymous think anyone here cares about their ill-mannered rants and admonishments.

I'm currently downsizing my cookbook collection so I'm just stopping by to say how much I enjoy your writing and observations about our beautiful corner of the world!

I enjoy your blog. I use my slow cooker all the time and I need to lose some weight. Pretty cowl.

La Vie Quotidienne said...

Your recipe sounds delicious. I don't use my slow cooker very much, but I should they recipes always look and sound so good.

The scarf is lovely, what beautiful colors.

Jan-Leanne said...

The poncho you knitted and the cowl scarf are beautiful. It would be nice if you could include directions for the things you knit - or tell us where to find the directions. The poncho is one long rectangle so I think I can figure that one out - but the pattern is a mystery. It looks like a "mistake stitch" rib stitch but in my swatch the ribs appear farther apart than in yours.

I do enjoy your blog. It's calming and domestic - I love that.

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

Sounds like you really make good use of your slow cookers Rosie.
I hardly ever use mine because it is the large sized version... if I had a smaller one it would be better for the two of us.
If I can get a good selfie of the cowl I will post it.
Have a joyful weekend...and thank you for your thoughtful comments.

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

Celine K I have hosted several giveaways on the blog over the years and I often draw winners out of a hat and I have also asked people on occasion to write a comment about why they would like to receive the giveaway item...hope you enjoy the Thai chicken recipe.

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

Anne...I have downsized my cookbooks too! There are still a few more to cull...
do you live in Victoria or perhaps in the Pacific Northwest? It was a mild day today and the weekend is almost upon us!

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

Thank you...the colours are quite bright but very cheery on a cold grey day.

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

Hi Jan-Leanne,
The patterns for the cowl and the poncho are available at the Church mouse Yarns website...they are subject to a copy right so I am not able to post them here on my blog.
We do try to keep things relatively calm around here on the blog and there is not usually a lot of drama.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

I always enjoy reading your blog as my husband and I live in what had been his grandparents bungalow located on the East coast of the US. We have a lot of the grandmother's flowers in our garden, but your Jude the Obscure roses are so magnificent! Love all your pictures...flowers, the sea, your neighbors gardens, everything is so nicely described. My husband was looking in the dining room buffet Thanksgiving morning and spotted our original smaller old red slow-cooker from many years ago and wanted to know why I had him using our much larger one to cook his New England style beans on winter Saturdays? Just force of habit to get the newer one out....love my slow cooker! Lost some weight this year and trying to maintain, so would love to try out some new recipes, but, just very happy to read your blog. P.S. Wearing the "Everbloom" color lipstick that you mentioned months ago....thanks!

Your cowl scarf is beautiful, and my favourite colours: pinks and yellows! And the recipe is very appealing, similar to one I had years ago, and I lost it. Now I will try this on my visiting family, thank you. Have a lovely weekend.

I would like a slow cooker weight watchers book. I am a wife, mama to a toddler, and I work full time as a professor of political science. I have gained 12 pounds since going back to work when my daughter turned 15 months old and meal planning has been a weak point- I end up picking up unhealthy quick meals after long days. I feel too tired to think of meals most nights. I would love to make easy and ww friendly meals during the week using the cookbook. Please consider me!

I'm a troll too. Quite proud of it too. Became one when I became tired of being called names/ labeled for presenting an opposing opinion in a most civilised manner. Dare to think deeper and the knives come out.

Anonymous said...

Trolls, trolls, trolls ! By now you, and we, should know calling people trolls, or any other names, can and should in no way discourage people from speaking their minds. Rudeness is not good, of course, but too often the word "troll" is being used to intimidate those who still feel hurt by such things.

When I was in school years ago, the worst thing you could call someone was "conceited"! Isn't that the funniest thing? The word was used as an insult , and like a weapon....just like we use the word troll today. Takes me right back, and I get a little laugh about it.

Anonymous said...

I think this one's the winner !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

Mr. HB is keeping an open mind about the comments...he will be the one deciding who gets the book and I think his job is going to be a tough one!

Anonymous said...

I agree. Nadya sounds lovely. She could really use the book. Understand Mr. H is picking, but when you publish comments for reading....ya get opinions. Just sayin...

Anonymous said...

And she said "please consider me".....adorable! Canadian manners rule, after all?

Anonymous said...

I think everyone who used the word TROLL should be disqualified. hahahahaha

I just got a slow cooker as a gift all the way from England and really want to start using it. I am moving into a new house on 15th January and looking forward to using this.

I would love a WW cookbook....they always have such tasty recipes.

I love my crockpots. Yesterday I used the big round one to make chicken fajitas for dinner guests. I set the crockpot in the morning and then my mom and I left and did a little shopping while dinner cooked.

In case you and your readers aren't aware, you can now buy 9x13 crockpots. I use mine all the time when I prepare breakfast for our volunteers and they keep breakfast perfectly hot. You can also take the ceramic insert out and bake with it in the oven. A great invention.

All the best and thank you again!

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

Mystica,
Your gift sounds very timely as you are moving into a new home.
You can pop your dinner in the cooker in the morning and unpack while enjoying the scents from the cooker and a few hours later your dinner will be ready.

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

You are making such good use of those cookers...
I have a large one with the removable liner too but I hardly ever use mine.
Breakfast from a slow cooker? Oh know I need to find out more!
If I could pop the cooker on before bedtime and serve breakfast or brunch that would be a handy time saver. A brilliant idea!

First of all, I am shaking my fist at the nasty commenter! I feel better now. And would love to be included in the giveaway. My slow cooker gets little use, but I'd love to bring it out again to try something new for fall and winter. Love, love, love the scarf. Jen

After reading your blog this morning, I've gone back to see what could possibly rouse the nastiness from anyone who reads your blog. I'm appalled!

I use my slow cooker much more often now that I've gone back to teaching. It's a godsend to come home to dinner mostly prepared after a long day of dealing with Grade 8 and 9 students who I dearly enjoy, but find rather exhausting!

Your scarf is beautiful, Hostess. Please don't consider me for the giveaway; I won a book from you several years ago and will give someone else the delight of winning.

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

Lorrie thank you for your comment and I had forgotten that you won a giveaway before!
