When I left our Humble Bungalow for my walk it was pouring rain.
An umbrella and boots were required.
The rain stopped about halfway through my walk
Then the clouds parted and the sun shone.
What a spectacular sight I spied at the end my walk!
This beautiful brooch was designed by Paris born jeweller Marcel Boucher.
Boucher worked for Cartier before being hired by the Mazer Brothers in the USA
He eventually opened his own company in 1937.
I am taking it with the others to a local consignment shop.
I rarely wear these anymore and think that someone else might enjoy them.
Why would I keep something so pretty hidden away in a drawer?
Many of my Brooches have been sold at The Vanity Fair Antique Mall
in the case that I shared with our darling daughter.
I have not been buying much and seem to have lost the desire to acquire
so I recently, I decided that it was time to call it a day.
It feels like the end of an era....
New beginnings...
Mr. HB has donned his chef hat and has been sharing some of the cooking here in The Humble Bungalow!
Mr. HB loves chow mien and found a recipe online that he wanted to try.
He brought our Le Creuset wok out from storage and he gave it a work out.
It was wonderful to have a night off from cooking and to be served such a delicious meal prepared by my husband was such a treat.
You can find this recipe online here.
Hope your week is off to a great start...
thank you for stopping by The Humble Bungalow.

Good for you going with the feeling that you want to move on your jewellery; and I love the look of your chow mein, lucky you! I am going to save the recipe now.
How nice for Mr. HB to cook for you!
Good to move things along that one no longer uses/wears - and you have the pictures now if you miss them! I often buy things at Vanity Fair - lovely people there.
Glad it cleared up for you on your walk this morning. It's still pretty grey out there and is supposed to rain more this afternoon!
I walked this morning without my coat, just a blouse and sweater. That chow mein recipe looks like fun. My husband does not cook and loves to eat burgers. It would be great if he learned but he's 69 so....Funny about acquisitions, isn't it. I would rather travel than buy things. I'm happy with my wardrobe as it is right now. Your brooches are lovely! Are you keeping one?
Your meal looks delicious. How wonderful to have your husband cook for you. Thanks for the recipe.
Your brooches are beautiful, and I'm sure it was a bit of a tough decision to let them go. I used to wear brooches myself, but don't seem to much lately. Yes, someone else will definitely enjoy them! What a treat that Mr. HB made dinner! I admire you for going for your walk when it was raining!
Hostess, chow mein looks very tasty!! I noticed today that the new Ina Garten cookbook is available at out Courtenay Costco, as you were mentioning a desire for this title.

The brooches are beautiful! Good for you, letting them go! Things like this are always a wonderful find for brides when looking for accessories for their hair. I used a few similar emerald color brooches in a bride's hair with naturally red hair! Stunning! Good for Mr HB! Looks so good!
Those broaches! Be still my heart! I love vintage jewellery and I'm very much like you and your darling daughter because my daughters and I all collect and share the sparkly shinnies. But you have a really good point. There is a time when the beauties should go out into the world and make other people happy.
Oh the chow mien was good...and I would love to have more!
Mr. HB is a clever fellow!
I think that Vanity Fair is the best Antique Mall in town...the owners are like family...I will return as a shopper...as they have the best selection!
Sounds like you were warmer than we were here...I wore a long puffy coat to chase the chill. Funny thing though as tonight I was discussing learning new things with my mom and sister...I think we should keep that learning curve going...even into our dotage!
I know how wonderful was that? A cook in the bungalow and its not me I feel so fortunate!
The brooches are beautiful but I have to let them go...no point keeping things that are not used...Mr. HB should get applause...he really hit a home run with this dinner.
Its very tempting...but I will try to hold off and give my family a gift idea for Xmas...
am planning a dinner party and will need to pull out all of Ina's books!
Stephen...you are so right that someone else can use these pins...
BTW your posts just get better all the time...I totally loved your last post.
If you and I ever got to meet face to face...we could so chat about boating adventures and family drama!
Veronica...I have left these beauties in the hands of the consigners...if they sell so be it...if not they come back to me.
Not an easy decision but I have 4 or 5 of the best ones in my drawer...enough to see me through the next 2 decades!
Lovely broaches!
Applause for Mr. HB!
It seems delicious-I make it very similar, sometimes with tiger prawns instead of chicken. Baking powder-great idea,I've never tried it before.
I don't make my own Stir fry sauce-have to try (although do a marinade from the scratch)
Thank you for reminding me
We have a beautiful sunny day,for leather jacket and a scarf

I always love the look of brooches but find that I seldom wear them. Mine aren't particularly valuable but they are pretty - but - like you I decided that they weren't doing much good sitting in a drawer - so - last year when a step-niece married and my step-mom was making a bouquet using brooches and such, I donated a number for the occasion. I've kept a few and will make an effort to wear them more often but I'm happy that some were able to add to an occasion.
They are so pretty but I can see how you might not wear them very often, but it still seems like a shame to let them all go. I guess that is my problem, I need to let a lot more things go to another home too. You have inspired me to think about doing this a bit more.
Those brooches are miniature works of art, such beauty and originally quite inexpensive compared with 'real' gemstone jewellery. Over the years I have also parted with many pieces I had in the 1960s but I have kept one special brooch and earrings, my first present ever from my husband for Christmas 1962!

I was trying to thing of something "different" to do with chicken breast for tonight's supper. How timely that you wrote about the chow mein! I haven't prepared a stir fry in YEARS but will tonight using the recipe you referred to. Yum!
Lovely jewelry. I adore broaches! I have several but, don't wear them near as often. Might change that-I love them as scarf clasps.
We were just on vacation to the beach in South Carolina & on the way to & fro, we saw signs for Le Creuset stores! Such a coincidence with your post... Looks like a wonderful meal!
I love reading your blog. Always full of peace! Thank you!
Take care & keep enjoying your walks, Nancy
So nice that your husband has found a love of cooking!!! Your walk photos are so beautiful and peaceful too.
It was a lovely day here yesterday...the sun shone brightly illuminating the autumn leaves. Not too sure what today will bring as the sun is not even up yet!
That bouquet sounds really interesting...my MIL had a Xmas wreath made in the 1960's using glass balls and rhinestone brooches...we have it now!
I have hung onto so many things over the years and the older I get the more stuff I want to give away...not sure if that is wisdom or folly!
I have a few brooches that were not in this group that I am keeping but not too many!
Oh glad that you were inspired to make something different with the chicken breast! I love when someone else helps me decide what to cook!
Oooh your beach holiday in SC sounds lovely....Le Creuset shops would definitely be a challenge for me NOT to purchase anything...
Mr. HB outdid himself with this dinner and I hope that he will continue to surprise me with more meals.
I am so happy that he is interested in cooking...I hope he continues to enjoy it.
