October sunshine...a day in my neighbourhood.

If you are tired of seeing pictures of the seafront where I walk you maybe want to click away now...
The views are the same but the colours and subjects that frequent the area change throughout the day. I never get bored and always find something of interest to capture. I feel very fortunate and grateful to be able to walk in such beauty.

The temperatures were hovering around 13 degrees Celsius this afternoon when I went for my walk. I wore a long sleeved T shirt, jeans and my Barbour vest and I was very warm once I got going...I had to unzip my vest and other walkers were in short sleeves!

There was enough of a breeze to launch the hang gliders off the cliffs.

I've often wondered what the views would be like from a glider.

Can you see the freighter out on the water?
That has been sitting there for weeks as the company that owns it apparently has gone bankrupt. I wonder what will happen to the boat? I would think it could be a hazard to navigation as it is very close to the shipping lanes.
With the foggy mornings of Fall it could be a disaster waiting to happen.

After I came home from my walk I noticed how dirty my windows were...
I started to wash them and dear reader I am absolute RUBBISH when it comes to cleaning windows!
Then I got onto my hands and knees and washed the kitchen floor
which I am much better equipped to do!

I picked some hydrangeas this week and popped them in one of our arts and crafts vintage vases.

We are hosting Thanksgiving dinner and I am going to be busy preparing the family feast.
We are looking forward to having everyone here in our small bungalow to help us celebrate.

A friend recommended this book...
it is quite different,
not sure what is going to happen
but it all takes place over dinner at a high end restaurant
two couples and something terrible has happened involving their children
that is about to be revealed...

Nerine Bowdenii blooming in various beds in Our Humble Bungalow Garden.
Thank you for stopping by my blog today.

Have a lovely Thanksgiving. And I also never tire of seeing your seaside photos and I hope something is done about that large vessel before, as you say, the accident that is waiting to happen takes place. We are also having a very nice sunny and mild autumn. Love your knife and fork, a most attractive design.

Such wonderful scenery - always beautiful. It was a gorgeous sunny day yesterday in Toronto so I went for a walk down by the lake. I love being near water - it just seems to give me more energy. Today I'm meeting a friend for a long walk through High Park and we'll probably end up back down by the lake - followed by a lunch and a good chat.
I'm heading to Kingston for Thanksgiving - dinner with my brother and SIL Friday night and then the weekend with my best friend. She is a wonderful cook and she is preparing a very traditional turkey dinner - I have even been promised leftovers to bring home! Enjoy the time with your family - Happy Thanksgiving to you all.

Thank you Margaret...our everyday stainless is made by Reed and Barton. I liked the pattern, whose name escapes me as it reminded me of the hand hammered silverware that arts and crafts silversmiths made back in the early 1900's.

Mother just called me to ask for her pastry recipe!
She used to have it memorized but at 89 she is getting forgetful...I never memorized her recipe so I had to have it written on a recipe card!
It is chilly this morning and threatening to rain.
Hope you have a lovely day.

Traditional turkey used to be on our menu for as long as I can remember but we decided to mix things up a bit these past few years. I do love the stuffing and all the trimmings that go with turkey...cranberry sauce and sweet potatoes...oh I am salivating just thinking about this now!
Enjoy your Thanksgiving feast!

I like having an excuse to entertain and it is neatly placed before the busy festive season gets going...I read on a blog that the stores are starting to decorate for Christmas already! We have not even celebrated Halloween yet!

Thank you Dottoressa...I also bought some white pumpkins for the front porch and some miniature orange ones inside to add to the table for the grandchildren to enjoy.

We are blessed with natural beauty in British Columbia. I just changed the table runner and set out my gourds and Indian corn. I love the squashes and apples at the farm market. I like that Nerine flower. Is it a perennial?

Love the photos from your daily walks, and your observations too.
I'm so excited for Thanksgiving! I did the food shopping yesterday, had the wines delivered last week, and tomorrow I'll start to set the table. Also I need to bake the pies in the afternoon. I might do a Thanksgiving post too, but it will be after the fact so I can add the pictures. We're actually having our dinner on Saturday so that our son can be at our dinner and then have the dinner the next day with his girlfriend's family, happy he's able to do both.
Enjoy your family! XOX

Ooooh I'd kill to have your seafront walks and views. Here I am surrounded by mountains, not my favourite views being a girl from the flat lands of Lincolnshire. Please keep posting your photographs. We don't do Thanksgiving here in the UK but love roast beef and Yorkshire puddings. Enjoy your feast.

Re the opening sentence of this post, please don't imitate faux fuschia, try and think of something original

A beautiful post , and I agree with the others, how can anyone tire of that gorgeous view ! I would love to live by the sea - the view is constantly changing... Looking forward to hearing about your Thanksgiving menu !

Happy Canadian Thanksgiving, and I love to see where you walk too. It is a beautiful area, and you capture it so well that I really want to visit Victoria. Looking forward to reading the menu and recipes.

I never tire of the water. I wish I had more opportunities to be around it.
Those hydrangeas are gorgeous -- love the pretty colors.
Enjoy hosting Thanksgiving. My kitchen is torn up for a reno and it probably won't be done before Thanksgiving. Not sure what we'll do yet!

It must be the scenery...

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

Thank you Christy!
It is a windy blustery morning here and the winds gusted all night long.
Very chilly outside and I may just work indoors instead of walking...BRRR

The Nerine Bowdenii are perennials much like the iris and they will produce more flowers every year if planted not too deeply in the soil. I saw some Indian corn and decorative gourds at the market...a great way to liven up the tablescape!

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

Happy Thanksgiving!
I look forward to your post as you have a lovely home and are very gifted with your table setting...and cooking!

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

Thank you Marilyn...I have never spent much time in the mountains...I think that they would offer many scenic delights.
I love a good prime rib and Yorkshire puddings with the various root vegetables and a dollop pf gravy....not going to count my WW points for this meal!

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

Will try and snap a few photos if I get a chance but with all the guests and the grandchildren I might be too immersed with the family....living in the moment.

Victoria is a very popular spot for tourists. If you do plan to visit I would be happy to share some of my favourite places with you.
As I mentioned earlier I may be preoccupied with the family and not able to capture too many pictures but will try to take one of the table before everyone arrives...the menu will be easy to share later.

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

The hydrangeas are holding up so far...
I saw your kitchen reno on your blog post...it is looking great! If it is not finished by Thanksgiving perhaps Thanksgiving will be al fresco this year or possibly a dinner out?

Anon if you're going to leave a mean and snarky comment on our lovely Hostess' blog put your name to it. Would you have left this comment with your name attached? If not then perhaps it is inappropriate, unnecessary, and mean.
That's a very common expression and Hostess has no trouble being original. But you clearly have trouble remembering your manners.

I never get tired of a beautiful view., Leslie! I feel very grateful for them, and I hope I have many more years of them.
I dislike washing windows too. Cornstarch is the key ingredient in my window cleaner.
I'm trying to figure out Instagram and I followed you. I managed to post one photo and now I can't figure out how I managed it?
Happy Thanksgiving!

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

Cornstarch? Oh I need to know more...I am about to call my window cleaner...he has oodles of squeegees cut to fit our small paned windows and does an amazing job. I see that you figured out OG ! Congrats!
Happy Thanksgiving!
