Thanksgiving...

Thanksgiving...

The roses are just about finished blooming in The Humble Bungalow Garden.
This summer has been a splendid year for the roses here in our garden.
They have loved the heat and the sunshine and we have managed to keep them hydrated and happy.

Jude The Obscure
My favourite David Austin Rose
has a few blooms clinging to the bush.

McCartney Rose
a fragrance Hybrid Tea Rose
a few sprays of flowers left but are slowly fading into Fall.

The Hydrangeas are a mix of fresh blooms and dead heads.
I picked a few to bring inside and hope that they will dry slowly so I can keep a bunch in a vase for a few months.

I think I may have already shared this photo with you.
I know I posted it on my Instagram page.

The blue and mauve hydrangeas are cut from the same plant.
Unfortunately these blooms wilted quite quickly after bringing them in the house.

I love this vintage blue and white jug.
It is made by Woods and Sons.

Peppers Market in Cadboro Bay Village
is hosting a contest.
$100 gift voucher for guessing the weight of this huge pumpkin.
I have no idea... so I have not entered yet.
Any Thoughts?

These hairy "things" are on hanging on a clematis near our bungalow.
I think they look like Thing One and Thing Two...
perhaps from a Dr. Seuss book.

Speaking of books, I am reading a great little one right now.
Halfway through it and am keen to read more.

I have a busy day here in The Humble Bungalow as we have all the family coming for the Thanksgiving feast and I need to focus on the menu.

Earlier this week I took my favourite recent thrift shop find,
a pristine vintage Canadian made leather bag
 out to tea.
I am loving this new bag!

I will try to take a few pictures of our table and dinner if I get a chance later today...

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving!I am looking forward to ours in November. It is my favorite holiday -- a day dedicated to family, giving thanks and delicious food. And, no retailer has been really successful at commercializing it!

Happy thanksgiving. You are someone I will be thankful for when our holiday comes around--reminders every week of the bounty and beauty in our lives.

Happy thanksgiving. I hope you have a special time with your family.
I'm amazed that your garden is still giving you a wonderful show of blooms. Mine gave up weeks ago.
However, last week I visited a manor house which had a splendid display of dahlias. I was sorting out my pics today and thought of you, Leslie, though my photos aren't a scratch on yours.
What a fine bag, a great find, I adore it!

Happy Thanksgiving. Our roses are still blooming but our hydrangeas finished weeks and weeks ago, I think they struggled far more with the extremely dry conditions. I love the colour of Jude the Obscure. Have a lovely day tomorrow

Your roses are just lovely! My parking lot garden is still blooming and I bought spring bulbs to plant. My book club is reading The Mayor of Casterbridge for November. Have you read it? I have family dinner today and I've been preparing lots of vegetable dishes. Happy Thanksgiving!

What a beautiful vintage find, Leslie!

In awe of your garden, as per usual.

The idea that a retailer could make Thanksgiving into a profitable event would not be right or even polite!

Oh my...your comment has given me time to pause and reflect.
I really DO appreciate the simple things in life...beauty and blessings that present themselves are what keep me in my happy place.
Thank you Sharon for taking the time to comment here and share...

It was a busy couple of days in the Humble Bungalow Kitchen!
We had a tasty meal...lots of good family fun and now after cleaning up I am ready to say goodnight...and hold the precious memories close.

I love reading about your trips and meals....you are way more photogenic than I could ever be. Love your recent UNIQLO purchases too!

Thank you...the roses are almost finished and there are a few new hydrangea blooms popping out...the limelights are almost done.
We had a fun evening with our family...lots of food, charming grandchildren and of course our lovely children...who BTW went out of their way to take time with their elderly Nana who is hard of hearing and incidentally made incredible pumpkin pies.

I have not read that book...my day and yesterday was spent mostly in the kitchen...lots of veggie dishes here too... a huge prime rib roast, gravy and Yorkshire pudding.

Oh my! The tea was served in a bone china mug at my club Goward House.
I have no idea what the pattern is and what the name of it might be...sorry.
If I get an opportunity when I am volunteering there I will see if I can find out.

The bag is sublime...and thank you for the garden compliment...your world looks like it is growing up pretty fast! I remember before your child was born! Lucky you!

Beautiful photos as usual. My roses are nearly finished, just a few final blooms. I'll miss them until next year. Your family celebration sounds wonderful.

The Mayor of Casterbridge is wonderful ... we read it at my grammar school but, of course, it was far too adult for children to comprehend - why do schools give young teenagers such books, I wonder, that were written with adults in mind? I've not read much Hardy (we read The Trumpet Major for O-levels, I didn't bother to read it myself but parroted was discussed about it in class and passed my exam - I think, actually, that showed initiative!)
Your Thanksgiving, and it's our 52nd wedding anniversary today!

Your Thanksgiving sounds like a festive family gathering. Prime rib roast is a favorite and I will have the same. Your garden is amazing to be still blooming. You have the magic touch. The vintage dark plum bag is very pretty. Lucky find. Susan
