Hair and my OOTD...a quickie post.

It's a casual day here in The Humble Bungalow...
quiet domestic routines are in place.
While the dryer was tumbling the linens I took a wee break and took some photos.

My hair is slowly growing...
it's a tedious process at best.
My hairdresser gave it a bang trim and tidied up the back layers.
I'm not blow drying it these days.
I have a new Bumble and Bumble product which I am using
I scrunch and twirl my hair as it dries...

(H)AIR STYLER
~ written on the tube ~
for great hair days without the heat or the hassle
pour avoir de superbes cheveux au quotidien, sans brushing

Scrunching it encourages the curl.
You can see the grey tinsel amid the brown locks.
The grey really comes out more as the hair dries...

I don't mind being grey and I wonder why I fought to keep it hidden under colour for so many years.
Lots of women I know colour their hair and feel very strongly about not going grey.
It's an identity issue...
(and it's very personal)
we either accept ourselves and the things that occur naturally with aging
or we fight tooth and nail and resist and delay the inevitable.

It's not a great image is it?
One day I really must buy a better mirror one that can be located in a better lit area of our bungalow.

Sperry Shoes

I have put on a bit of weight these past few weeks as my knee has been bothering me so I am not able to walk as much.
I will have to go to the doctor if it keeps up.
It started when I was "guerrilla gardening" and has improved since I have eased off the serious digging and weeding but there are twinges of shooting pains and it is very stiff periodically throughout the day.
I am using Voltaren a pain relief gel and that seems to take the edge off...
(I don't usually complain so please forgive me for this little whine)

Mr. HB and I are off for a few weeks on our boat.
We have lots of books to read and there will be simple meals prepared aboard our Sea Ray.
I'm looking forward to doing laps in the pools and exploring the Gulf Islands that we visit.

White Iceberg Rose

Please follow me on Instagram where I'll be posting pictures as long as I can get a WiFi signal.
I'll miss out garden and the cats but know that they are in the tender loving hands of a friend.

Don't forget to stop and smell the roses!

I envy those curls of yours! Your outfit is very cute and casually chic. Enjoy your weekend!

I'm 90% gray/silver now, and I love it! More compliments than when it was blonde! Bon voyage on your boating adventure, Hostess.

Your roses are just beautiful! Hope you and Mr, HB have a wonderful, relaxing time!

I enjoy reading your blog and your reflections. As a writing teacher, may I make a small suggestion that I think would really improve your writing? Try to avoid trite and cliched phrases like "wee", "repast" etc - they are hackneyed and make your writing sound stilted and "twee'.

I hope you won't take offence - honestly meant in the spirit of helpful advice - which you of course are free to ignore!

I think the vocabulary you choose to use is part of your personality and not trite or twee at all. I just wanted to make sure that not everyone has the same view as Anonymous.

I'm one of those who does not not mind my hair turning white/gray. You are right. It is a personal decision and we don't all feel the same way about the changes we experience as we get older.

That should read--just want to make sure you know that not everyone has the same view as Anonymous.

Your writing is swell. I love your winsome and fetching head of hair. I have been using the same product, though my hair does not have your plump and delightful curls. Enjoy your boating adventure into the realm of breathtaking and delightful. Ignore those who would appear pompous and have the audacity to squabble over words.
They are your words. T

Have a great trip on your boat!! My husband and son recently sailed in the San Juan Islands so I know it will be beautiful..I love your hair ..I let mine be as it wished, and it's a great salt and pepper mix!
I also love your writing..this isn't an English class by the way...your words are you and that's why we keep coming back..Coco

Hi there, You are my Weight Watchers inspiration. By that I mean I haven't started yet. I read all of your posts and look for any thing about weight. I guess I'm scared. But I do have grey hair and love it. I've had it for years. Had to fight the hairdresser, my friends some of my family. But I love it. I've let it grow longer and it changes the way color looks on my complexion. Interesting. Do you realize that you don't have an Instagram button? But I am following you. So tallyho!

Have a wonderful few weeks on your boat. I miss boating so much since we don't have a home on Martha's Vineyard anymore. No where to go by boat in LA. Just loved ducking in and out of different harbors on the east coast. I enjoy your writing, ignore that comment please.

Oh my you are far too kind...I am above my weight loss goal now but continue to work hard to return to my goal. If you do decide to join WW make sure that you go to the meetings! I have posted a picture on the top of the sidebar of the blog that says "click the picture to follow me on Instagram" it works when I click it so I hope it works for you too.
Cheers!

Oh and I love YOUR hair! It's funny how we angst over our hair...and it's not a third world problem.

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

Oh and how I wish mine was more silver and grey...like yours!

Thank you!

No offence taken...I enjoy using words like wee and repast.
If I were to take a writing course I am certain that my vocabulary would be quite changed...but in the meantime it is simply "twee me."

Aging is a very personal journey...and as you say, we are all different. There is no right or wrong approach.

No worries Susan...I am my own editor and write from my heart.

I am enjoying your choice of words here T...very descriptive!

The San Juans are indeed very beautiful. The local Gulf Islands here are lovely too.
My high school writing teacher Justin Havelaar may agree with anonymous...but I'm not offended. Life is a learning curve and are we not perpetual students?

I'd miss boating if we stopped too....funny thing is when we sold our Chris Craft we "thought" we'd be done with boating and we lasted 5 weeks before we bought the Sea Ray. The small snug little harbours and Marinas often look like they are stuck in a "Time Warp" that's what I think makes them so inviting and charming.

Curly hair should be treated differently. It tends to be drier than straight hair. Be gentle w/it and encourage the curl. The upside is that you can get away w/washing it less than straight hair. My own curly mop responds best to benign neglect.

I'm still doing my best to keep my "natural" red hair (at least it used to be), only because gray hair would completely wash out my ivory/pale skin tones. Mme Mère looked stunning w/gray hair, but she had a lovely pink blush to her skin.

I think you look beautiful w/your natural color hair. No need to do a thing to it, except enjoy your lovely curls.

Cheers, M-T

Your hair is so chic. I'm not to the point of going grey yet - that will come in due time. Have fun on your boating vacation - we certainly enjoyed ours!
Your words and vocabulary reflect your charming personality - someone like anonymous needs to be thoroughly ignored.

I love your bangles. Silver is so pretty. I don't wear jewelry but I always notice it. That is one great outfit.

Well count me in with all the others....your writing style is so refreshing and expressive! I love those shoes! Voltaren helps with my arthritis, too. Hope your time on the water is soothing and brings you respite. Enjoy! Look forward to IG pictures. - Jen.

Thanks for the tip on the B&b product, I have curly hair and I am always looking for good products to use. I think that your hair always looks sensational.

I know about gardening accidents...I had 5 staples removed from my scalp this morning, I got snagged by a thorn while innocently walking b a climbing rose cane last week. I never realized that gardening could be such a health hazard. LOL

I hope you have a wonderful trip!

I really like your shoes in this post. I have them in navy and cream stripe, but have never seen the color you have. They look so summery!
As for the grey hair, I am not embracing it on myself mainly because I don't seem to have the complexion for it. Unfortunately, I have hair that grows quickly and absolutely detest going to get it colored, so it's a conundrum.

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

That sounds terribly painful. I hope that rose cane survived too. Or did you grab your secateurs and remove it?

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

I don't think my complexion is great with grey but I do Tend to wear lipstick in a brighter shade now.
