Remembrance Day

Lest We Forget...

I'm so grateful to be sitting in our Humble Bungalow...
listening to the CBC Remembrance Day coverage from Ottawa.
Honoring the memory of those who served their country, continue to serve and those who lost their lives so that we may live in freedom.

We must never forget...or take for granted, those who have made the ultimate sacrifice so the we may live in peace.

Hi - Today I visited London to see the final view of the poppies laid around the Tower of London; one for every serviceman who lost their life in the first World War. This is probably the most moving thing I have ever seen in my life. Please view the video at this link. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-30004315

Sorry, the link doesn't quite work. It takes you to a BBC news page. The item is the first on the page, a small picture with the heading "Drone tour of Tower of London poppies". Thanks

I'm so glad you mentioned Remembrance Day, Hostess.

I had the privilege of being in Ottawa for the ceremony at the War Memorial this year. It was very moving. Especially seeing the parade of veterans file by. We had three veterans on our tour.

It was such a special experience to be one of the crowd of 50,000 who kept the two minutes of silence, who listened to the stirring words of the speakers, who heard the haunting music of bands and bagpipes and a young people's choir, who witnessed the placing of the wreaths, and who saw representatives of our military in their parade uniforms.

Yes, I am a proud Canadian. And I am also very grateful for the sacrifice, both ultimate and living, that our armed forces give so that we can experience peace and freedom. Our visit to the War Museum deepened my appreciation for both military and civilians who were affected by global conflicts.

The meticulous planning and the many precautions taken enabled this heartfelt outpouring of honour and appreciation for our forces to be held in peace and safety. After the ceremony many surged forward to place their poppies on the tomb of the unknown soldier.

My father fought in the Second World War, and I honour his memory, too.

Most grateful to live in this great country,
Honey Bee
