Revlon Red Velvet...

Have you noticed how many magazines have articles on choosing the right red lipstick?
Red seems to be in vogue this season.

When I regularly went to the Aveda salon to have my hair cut the stylist would always offer to refresh my lipstick after my cut and colour. It was a wonderful opportunity to try a new shade without having to parade in front of all and sundry at the make up counter. Frequently I would treat myself to a tube of the shade that my stylist would recommend, but that was a few years ago and I now go to a salon that sell Bumble and Bumble hair products but no cosmetics of any kind.

I went to the drug store with the idea in mind, of a new shade of red for the holiday season.
With the cosmetic clerk's help I tried on a dozen or so shades from a variety of brands.
I found one that I liked and she thought was perfect!

Guess what?
It's the same shade of red that I have been wearing for evening for the a couple of years!

I guess that just proves that often we don't always need to try to change what's not broken.

Do you have a favourite shade of red lipstick?

While I do not wear red garments I find that I can wear this red velvet shade by Revlon.
Worn here with my Banana Republic top...feeling just a wee bit French.

Hope that you are having a FUN weekend.

That shade of lipstick looks fantastic on you! Don't limit it to an evening look only.

I don't do red lipstick, but I like the revlon lip butters, very easy to wear. Your red suits you.

It's a beautiful shade on you! I DO like to wear red lipstick. Still haven't found one that stays on long enough w/o drying out my lips though.

You are lucky you found a red to suit you because i find red is the hardest shade to get right. There aer so many undertones that a red is never just a red is it? I was told only to go for blue reds and not red red nor orange reds but try telling that to a lady at the makeup counter. Only ones who know what i am talking about are the people at MAC as they tend to be makeup artists. Still searching for my red as the one I liked was discontinued from prescriptives - showing my age!;)

Dear Hostess,
I rarely comment on blogs, but I must say you look absolutely radiant. This shade of lipstick is perfect on you - it complements your skin and hair perfectly and you do look so French.

Your skin is just fabulous!!!

Your skin is like a baby's! Love the lipstick on you. It looks like sort of wine/red?

Love that shade on you. Very flattering! I can't do many red lipsticks now...they look too harsh with my coloring. I agree about your complexion...glowing is the best way to describe it. Retirement seems to agree with you very much.

Pretty shade of red on you. I love that brand of lipstick...sort of glossy, isn't it? Very soft going on. I use the same type in a nude color. It's my go-to. I don't think red is good on me...I prefer nude, pink and wine shades.

I agree, you really look radiant now. Just that length hair.
I would not change a thing.
My favorite lipstick is no more available, so I have to create the shade I want by myself.

That red does look great on you - red, but not too showy. I'm not sure if I can wear Revlon as I usually wear a hypoallergenic lipstick, but I am in need of boosting the colour of my lipstick. I have worn a pinky-neutral shade for years and my office mates just informed me that I need one with more colour (what would we do without some honest feedback from our friends) so I'm on the lookout.

I have never been able to wear a red lipstick. My lips dominate my face. However, I just bought a Revlon lip butter in a red shade that, when paired with my brownish lip pencil, is not half bad and is, in fact, growing on me. I use the pencil as a base, and then top it with the lip butter which tones it down a bit. Will use it for evening. Now I just need someplace to go!

Great story! You were smart to "play" though, as your hair colour has changed. I also see you in a beautiful fuchsia.

You still have the same expression as in a picture of your much younger self in one of your previous posts (the one with your husband-to-be and your best friend on a boat?) Amazing how we (all of us) don't really change . . . something about the angle of the tilt of the head, the slightly guarded smile, etc. Thank you for posting! :-) I know I still have the same expression as in pictures of my much younger self too.
