Adding some festive touches in The Humble Bungalow.

Welcome to The Humble Bungalow
we've started adding a few festive touches a wee bit earlier than usual.
With all the time that we are spending in our home these days...
 why not?

Festive starry candle holder
a recent purchase from the Victoria Art Gallery gift shop.

I love to decorate with warm creamy white accents.

Sweet white hearts are hung from the knobs on the cupboard.
These were also found at the Art Gallery gift shop.
I think they would be really pretty hung on a tree with all white lights.

Cookie tins and English crackers.
We have no idea if we will be permitted to have our family come over for Christmas with the Covid cases still climbing.

I bought the crackers just in case...
I will drop them off when I pass over the gifts
if we are not allowed to meet up in person.

The tins will hold cookies and chocolate bark...
which I will start making in a couple of weeks.

Battery powered LED lights add ambiance in The Humble Bungalow Kitchen.

These lights are warm and add festive cheer.

We plan to put up the tree this coming weekend and will pull out some of the other decorations.

Are you decorating for Christmas early this year?

Do you think Christmas will be celebrated differently this year due to lockdown?

Have you started shopping for the holidays?
Are you shopping online or supporting the local small businesses?

I am making a concerted effort to buy local.
I want to see the small shops survive...
it's so sad seeing those that have already closed up shop.

Stay safe and wear your masks!

Thank you for stopping by The Humble Bungalow Blog.

Instead of exchanging major gifts, my husband and I are going to make a larger than average donation to the local food bank. We will be decorating for Christmas, but it will be simple. We plan to go to a tree farm close to our rural farm and cut a tree on Saturday. We may be spending Christmas at our city home and will decorate there as well, but minimally. It will just be the two of us for Christmas. It will still be a wonderful holiday.

We will be decorating for Christmas, even if we can't meet with our family. I put out my red and white dishes in the china cabinet and that's as far as I've gotten so far. I hope to do more this weekend, although I'll have a 17-month-old house guest while her parents are in hospital welcoming a little brother or sister.
Your white accents are so pretty with the candlelight. Stay well.

My Christmas, like my Thanksgiving will be much more simple this year. I will miss my annual Christmas Eve dinner the most, but it is not possible to do it safely and that is the most important thing. Hopefully, with luck next year will be better and we will all be able to gather again.

You decorations are lovely.

I love your use of white in decorating. So simple and comforting. I think that’s what is called for this year. I will have a smaller tree decorated only with white lights and sparkly snowflakes. It will be an uncomplicated time.

Enjoy your festive preparations. I like the idea of going to the tree farm and cutting down your own tree. We are not exchanging big gifts either. We are doing a 12 days of Christmas bag of small things that are useful.

Oh a new baby sounds wonderful! Enjoy your time with the wee one.
We are anticipating the safety measures to still be in place over the holidays so it will be a quiet one for us too.

It's going to be a strange holiday with all the restrictions in place...but we will have to make these sacrifices in order to save lives. We must make the best of the situation.
Take care, stay safe.

I love using white lights...they are simple and I think they add a wee bit of elegance. Keeping things simple seems like a good idea right now. Take care

Your home is beautiful - and very elegant.

I will do some decorating although I think I'll pass on a tree this year. I live on my own so I'm allowed one other person in my bubble and that is a single friend who lives in the same building. No travelling and no seeing family - who all live out of town.

I will only be buying a few small gifts and a few gift cards to include with my Christmas cards - which I plan to write this weekend. My friend and I plan to drive to different parts of town and then walk to view all the lights - it will be fun and frugal - and that way there will be a few more dollars to donate to the food bank - and many of my friends intend donating more as well - if we can afford it I think we should make every effort possible to help out others who are having such a tough time at the moment.
I look forward to pictures of your tree once it is up.

I just love your Humble Bungalow and you decorate it so beautifully. We had a small Thanksgiving yesterday-just the four of us. Both my kids work for the same university, so it amuses me to hear them "talk shop".
I had planned to put up my white window candles today so to hear the Governor's introduction of a new slogan at today's weekly Covid press conference, "Vermont Lights the Way," made me happy to be ahead of a trend. He is encouraging everyone to put up festive lights soon to brighten out towns and our moods. Lorrie's red and white dishes inspired me to limit my decorations to red and white as well-with greenery from the woods. My daughter is going to borrow some of my "old" decorations as she wants Christmas to explode in her apartment, I am going to aim for a more serene environment, inspired by you, Leslie. Happy decorating! Carol in VT

Yes, it will be a simple one for us as well. Quite a bit of shopping is done, and most of it on-line this year. Some baking is already done, and will be included in the deliveries to grown children's houses since they won't be visiting.

My DH put up the outside lights, but they won't be turned on until Dec 1, and I haven't started with indoor decorating yet. I will pull out a few things at a time, just for us to enjoy; no visitors this year.

Thank you Margie!
We have a faux tree that has white lights on it. We do not add baubles because the cats think that they are toys and bat them around until they break. Our bubble is super small too....I walk with a friend but my bubble is just my husband. We are not permitted to see the grandchildren in person...so Facetime will come in handy for staying in touch over the holidays.
My knitting group makes a donation every year...I think it will be a much bigger donation this year considering how many are out of work and in need.
Will share more pictures soon.
Stay safe

Oh that is a grand slogan...Vermont Lights The Way!
Lorrie's red and white china is gorgeous...I love the teacup and saucer. I enjoy tea each afternoon and try and use a pretty teacup. We donated a lot of our "old Baubles"
My husband has the lights up out front...we are in the midst of a fierce windstorm so i hope that stay put and don't get ripped off the pergola.
Take care Carol

This Festive Season is definitely going to be different and very quiet...we CAN do this and save lives and minimize the spread of this devastatng virus. It is pretty easy to just stay home and when out at the grocery store, pharmacy or shops, to wear a mask.
I will do some baking next week.
Enjoy your decorating!

My MIL used to give her husband the same cards every year...birthday and anniversary! She said he never knew! I thought it a super thrifty idea that she, a well off woman, would do. They were not always well off so she had to use thrifty ideas early in their marriage...shopping your home sounds like quiet an adventure. I bet you have some things hidden away that you have forgotten about...I know I do and I am a minimalist!
Hope you can rest up and feel more energy.
Take care
