Thrift shop inspiration...cottage decor

Dried foliage foraged from the wilds of Pender Island
at
Quarterdeck Cottage.

Freshly rinsed antique crystal vessel...

A pleasant mix of materials...
rustic and rough juxtaposed with fine quality antique crystal.

A modernist votive holder...
looks like Ittala Glass by Tapio Wirkkala.

These two glass pieces were found at the thrift shop on Pender Island.
I have found some real gems in this shop.

If I lived on Pender full time I would be an active volunteer.

Since we only come over once a month I cannot commit to helping.
So I shop instead...

Do you like shopping for vintage items at thrift shops?
Do you shop online at Etsy or Ebay?

What are your favourite finds?

I'd love to hear from you...

Thank you for popping by The Humble Bungalow Blog.

Beautiful crystal pieces. I also love shopping at thrift stores. I have found many things on Ebay and Etsy. We have an auction company here that holds auctions once a week (less since COVID) and I can't wait to check my email every Monday morning to see what they have. I have found so many lovely old pieces of furniture and sets of vintage dishes and paintings. I definitely prefer things that have already lived a life and been loved and enjoyed by their previous owners.

Lovely items, and I like the way you're using them. Sorry the pandemic is not going well in BC. Must look up Pender Island.

Isn't our weather glorious this weekend?I like your fairy lights and foliage on the mantle....little fluffing anf faffing around the house feels appropriate as the seasons change.

Oh yes! Patricia I know we have a local auction house here too but I haven't visited for ages...that makes me think I need to go and preview...even if online. I am actually in the market for a new teacup and saucer...one that is absolutely stunning!

Silverware is not the favoured accent with many but I have a piece in almost every room in our home...yes even the bathroom! I have seen it used tarnished as shabby chic and farmhouse style decor...always useful even in the garden!

I just hopped over to peek at your blog and see that you are quite the baker!
Those pumpkin muffins sound (and look) delicious!

I think we are too "trend" driven in the U.S. Perhaps it is my age, but I just don't care what the latest trend is...here today, scorned tomorrow. Give me a beautiful piece of silver...no "live, love, laugh" signs from Hobby Lobby for this girl. Also, the whole "industrial" trend...love it in the right home, but in my little cape cod...nope. Keep on loving what you love...before you know it, somebody will declare sterling silver to be desirable again!

You've inspired me! I've got a fleur-de-lys carafe. I can go outside and collect some botanicals before it rains.

You’ve got a great view from your cottage, it must be so relaxing! I haven’t been toPender, only Saltspring. Hopefully in the next few summers.
I also love putzing around antique or second hand stores, you do find some treasures. I have a few pieces of Italla glass As well.

I think buying what you love regardless of what is trending is a reflection of our personal style. I surround myself with little pieces that make me smile when I look at them...from sea glass in vintage jars, to frosty mid century Finnish glass, beeswax candles, and heart shaped rocks! Very eclectic I know!

I also want to bring in a big bunch of hydrangeas and dry them. Enjoy your foraging!

We can see Salt Spring Island from our cottage! It’s very close. I love the Ittala glassware...so elegant. Works of art really!
