Summer Hollidays

The Humble Bungalow Garden

We have been away on the boat...and had motor trouble.
Repairs need to happen before we can go out on it again.

Midweek I drove upisland for a few days
with our son and 3 grand children.

Oodles of fun in the sun and a crazy thunder and lightning storm!
Mini Golf, bumper boats, pooltime, crafts...

Fresh veggies from The Humble Bungalow Garden and Greenhouse.

The garden is looking wonderful and we are starting to harvest vegetables.

Limelight Hydrangeas
and
Himalayan Honeysuckle

I love the combination of colours and textures.

This wee green grasshopper hitched a ride from Victoria all the way to Parksville.

The views from our suite.

Sandy beaches and many lovely homes.

Abraham Darby
a stalwart David Austin Rose
very frilly and frothy
a beautiful fragrance.

Second flush of sweet peas...
Monty Don said to cut ALL the flowers off and expect a flush of new ones.
I was skeptical but it works.

BTW
I had an email from a reader
saying that ads are popping up in the blog side bar
that are related to the US election and the NRA.

I do not live in the US.

My blog is not political in any way, shape or form.

It is my understanding that any ads that do pop up
are related to searches by the users of the device.

North Island Wildlife Recovery Centre is located in Errington, BC
near Parksville and Qualicum Beach.

The centre rehabilitates animals that are injured and then releases them back into the wild.

There are a few animals that are permanent residents.
Their injuries were so severe
that they will not be able to fend for themselves.

The centre is clean
the cages are large
the habitats inside are similar to the wilderness
that the animals call home.

Look at this precious owl.
Farley cannot fly, he was hit by a car in Prince George BC.
He underwent an operation but has never been able to regain the ability to fly.

We are enjoying hosting outdoor "Happy Hours" with friends and family.
It is a wonderful way to stay connected and remain safe.

How is your summer going?
The time seems to be flying by here...

I've got lots of things planned for the next few weeks.
Catching up with friends and a spa date with my baby sister who just turned 60!

Take care and stay safe.

Leslie, These are some of your most beautiful photos! I'm so glad you had fun with your son and grandchildren. I would love to hear more about the thunder and lightening storm. The only ad I'm seeing is for clothing--and mousetraps--LOL!

I agree with Susan - your photos are lovely and your garden a haven of beauty just now. Sorry about the boat motor trouble. Parksville has some really lovely beaches, so wide and shallow. Perfect for playing with children. I have an ad blocker and don't see any ads on blogs.
Enjoy this new month!

Thank you Susan!
We had a lovely time away and plan to do it again next year! The grandchildren are so precious and I feel so blessed to have been able to accompany them on this jaunt on the boat and up Island. Making memories is so important.

An ad blocker might be exactly what this reader needs on her device. Hope that she is reading this information and can upload it to her computer. Parksville has really grown since I was there last...as kids my parents took us there every summer for a week. It was the highlight of our summer.
Thankfully Our mechanic will be able to squeeze our repair in before we depart for our two weeks away.
Take care and enjoy your lovely garden and grands! 💕

That's too bad about the boat. It looked like you had fun with children though. I've been staying with my mum for a few days as she was in the hospital. I really like the Parksville area. We went there a few times when I was young. Your garden looks so pretty with all the different textures.

We have our boat serviced every year before boating season and it had been done so this blip was totally unexpected but it is fixable. We should be able to go to the cottage and stay at Otter Bay while our son and 3 grandchildren are there the first week...then we move up from the boat to the cottage for the next week. Hope your Mom's health improves...good that you are able to stay with her and help.

We are being super careful here...only a few people in our "bubble" the immediate family and a few friends. The numbers are a bit higher since we entered Phase 3 but nothing too scary so far. Hope most people are respectful and abide by the guidelines set out by our medical advisors...I wear a mask in stores and other places.
Stay safe!

Greetings Beth!
Thank you for those kind words they are just the encouragement I need to keep snapping pictures! Hope that you are enjoying a lovely summer in Ohio.
Stay safe.

The Himalayan honeysuckle is quite unusual looking...it seems happy growing here in our garden...we have several planted. Wishing that summer could last for a LONG time this year as I am kind of dreading the cold dark days of winter when we will be inside and being social will be a whole new challenge with this virus hanging around.

Lock down looms over all of our heads...I hope we can stay safe and still enjoy a few freedoms...risky behaviour affects us all.
Hope that you can find some pleasant distractions during lockdown.
Stay safe

We will all wear masks at the spa...am looking forward to it!
So many things are still closed to us but I am not too eager to go shopping or take any unnecessary risks. If we want to stay safe we all need to do our best.
The children are a such a gift! How is your grand baby doing? How old is she now?
Take care

The owl is absolutely precious! What a sweet face!
That is a great suggestion about clearing the browsing history! I hope the reader who is having issues will take your advice.
Take care Sheila

The RHS calls it Leycesteria, it's also known as Pheasant Berry! We have a huge one in our garden, grown from seeds from our previous house.
I'm in the UK, and been reading your blog for years - I've never seen one advert on the side bar!

Strange that ads pop up on some people's devices...
I have heard that formal name for the Himalayan Honeysuckle...I believe it is Leycesteria Formosa. The hummingbirds seem to love it!
Enjoy your weekend!
