Denim basics...and some new splurges.

Some serious work horses in my wardrobe are denim.
From left to right...
Cailey 22 shirt, no name thrifted denim jacket, Ralph Lauren denim shirt.

Soft tencel Levi's denim dress
I have been wearing this dress a lot this summer.
In the winter I pair it with capri length tights and my Chelsea boots.

Comfy boyfriend jeans by NYDJ
worn here with a striped top
Clark sandals.

I have been aware that my outfit choices have become quite repetitive...
perhaps because I have fewer items and I feel comfortable in the pieces that I keep.

It makes dressing so much easier with fewer things hanging in the closet.
Surprisingly
I do not tire of the same clothes...
some are getting worn so much that the fabrics are softening!

I splurged on two new bras...
by
Prima Donna and Wacoal.

My "go to" black pants that I wear many times each week
were looking rather tired...

I purchased a new pair of black Eileen Fisher pants which are really quite lovely.
They are what I consider an "investment" item
but the cost per wearing will even out that expenditure
over the next couple of years.

How do you feel about your wardrobe?
Are you a minimalist or do you like to have a full closet with many pieces?
Have you purchased anything for the Fall season?

That denim dress is a year-round piece. I really like it. I'd actually like to have a couple of dress/ tunic pieces that could be layered. The EF pants are worth every penny! I still have quite a lot of clothing but I am constantly editing and repurposing.

Where in Victoia can you find Eileen Fisher pants?..love all the denim you have collected..I associate denim with Fall it just goes together so well this time of year and keeps you cool and warm …..layering sure helps too!!!

Nothing at all, so far, for the fall season. A few pieces to fill gaps in my wardrobe for events. A pair or two of new shoes. That's it. I too find it easiest to wear that which works, over and over.

Loved seeing your post this afternoon...that Longchamp bag is perfect for travel. I have one too but I opted for basic black and I much prefer your bright printed bag. EF pants are so easy to wear.

Two shops that I know of...tulipe noire on Oak Bay Avenue where I purchased mine and the shop at Magticks Farm called Something More...they have a large selection of Eileen Fisher pieces...happy shopping! I also like the South Granville EF store in Vancouver as they carry petites.

One of the perks of living the retired life means less shopppng for clothes!

I have become more of a minimalist - it's not that I don't like to look or admire lovely clothes - but I don't seem to need to buy everything I see. And since funds are greatly reduced since retirement it really has forced me to think twice (or even three times) about what I actually need. I've always followed my dad's advice - "You get what you pay for" so prefer quality over quantity and that also means fewer items.
My one weakness is sweaters but I'm limiting myself to one new purchase this Fall and that's it.
I'm also working on a 333 type of wardrobe for Oct., Nov. and Dec. so we'll see how it all works out.

Isn't it interesting how denim tends to suit all complexions?

Haven't bought a thing either and I never tire of my clothes - happy to wear things over and over. Especially never tire of denim!

I like good quality classic pieces that I wear forever. I have many Diane Von Furstenberg wrap dresses that I have worn for almost 20 years now! My general uniform consist of jeans with a crisp white button down or a cashmere sweater. Love a well-made blazer and a good wool coat- both which are investment pieces that I never tire of year after year. That Levi denim dress in your post is adorable- I might just order one for myself!

Like you, I repeat outfits regularly. I have not bought anything since my tunic top by St. John. My black and navy slacks and Bermuda shorts get lots of wear. My long sleeve cotton oxford shirts in white and pastels are regular basics for me. In the heat I roll the sleeves up for a classic, casual chic look. Lately, I like my gold antique bracelet and it goes well with everything. Susan

As much as I’d like to be a minimalist, I keep purchasing jackets and shirts at a thrift store.

Great to know there’s an EF store on S. Granville. I don’t have many items but they’re my staples. Except for several pairs of jeans.

I love the minimalist aesthetic, and aspire to it, but every now and again I find myself slipping onto the "must have new things" bandwagon. Every once in a while I play around with color and patterns, but then reel it back in and stick with simple shapes, solid colors that flatter............and scarves and interesting necklaces.

Enjoy your new splurges!!

Retirement followed by widowhood has certainly made me review my wardrobe and spending. I don't need as much nor can afford as much. So shop in my own wardrobe and limit myself to the odd addition.

Your Levi's dress is lovely
I don't mind reapeating outfits-when one loves ones's clothes and has well chosen pieces-it is a joy
I hope you'll enjoy your new EF pants

I've not done any shopping for autumn and probably will not until I figure out if I need anything additional. I am constantly paring down my closet. I also love my EF black crepe pants. In fact, I've bought several pairs over the years and still wear all of them. I am happy to have a small wardrobe. I have a skirt I have been wearing for at least 15 years!

I think that we are much more content with our wardrobes when we really pare down and scrutinize every purchase...good luck with the project 333!

I never really thought about it but you are right!

Denim is one of my favourite fabrics...when one has a basic wardrobe and enjoys the items in the closet it makes getting dressed so much simpler!

Those classic wrap dresses are so flattering and I love her designs....and I am a fan of cashmere too!

St John have some lovely things...I own a dressy beaded tank top that I wear for evening and the occasional festive celebration...it pairs well with my EF black pants and several black skirts. Your antique bracelet must be lovely...a classic accessory with every outfit.

There used to be a high end consignment store up the hill on S Granville...last time I was there I wandered through and spied many beautiful designer pieces...also a Hermes Kelly bag!
I have collected a few coats and jackets for walking in various kinds of weather...maybe more than I really need but if I am comfy when walking I do it...if I am cold I won't venture out so it is better motivator knowing that I have coverage for the inclement and rainy days of fall and winter.

Scarves and necklaces are a great way to transform an outfit...
I've been aware of the new fashions they are showing in the magazines but I don't feel tempted...having a very small closet does make it easier.

You are wise to be mindful of the budgetary constraints that retirement and widowhood bring...I keep a book where I list all my purchases...I started this when I retired and it was an eye opener!

The Levi dress is so easy to wear...it is loose and the fabric is so soft.
I have had the same EF pants before and wore them in Paris as they travelled so well....no wrinkles and easy to roll up in the carry on...I like her basics as they are so versatile.

Editing the closet is a great way to hone in on what we like as we keep the best items and wear them often...its a great exercise. I try now to ask myself, do I need it? will I be happy wearing it for the next few years? and does it flatter me?
Questions that I should have asked myself for the past 50 or so years!!!

I love your blog! Think I’ve tod you that several times, but just in case you forget🙂. Your style inspires my own. And though my thumb is not as green as yours, your garden provides me a place to rest. I love your and Mr. HHB’s boat trips and get aways. And i loved when you shared stories of your daughters and your jewelry finds. Just dropping in to say thank you.

I no longer store clothing I don't wear. I have a small closet and the clutter stresses me out. I also prefer to have fewer clothes and actually like and wear what I do own. Strangely, it makes getting dressed easier, not harder. I no longer buy one occasion clothes, or even fancy items. If I have to dress up, I prefer simple, classic items. I am fussy about bras and find they need replacing regularly.

I love denim tops and dresses. Love dressing them up. So you found my favorite bras. Prima Dona's are gorgeous and do the trick. We have a wonderful bra store in Los Angeles, Jeanette Bras. They know what they're doing. Which is a rarity. Denim and bras. Good week!

Oh we are so on the same page! It's surprising how well prepared we can be to get dressed for any occasion (other than a red carpet event !) with simple classics and a few accessories...
