What a difference a day makes...

Yesterday I had to force myself to go for my walk...
the blustery wind and rain made me want to stay indoors and cocoon.
I absolutely need to get out and walk...
my weight is still over my WW goal weight and I am discouraged.

The winds were strong
and
they helped to whisk away negativity as I walked along the seafront.
There were only a handful of people out and about...

The sun popped out for a few precious moments and illuminated the leaves
with a vibrant light that one could not help but notice.

I spied a pretty pink hollyhock on the street that leads to the seafront...
it waves on the tall stalk with other blooms
while braving the inclement weather.

A new rose bloom and buds greeted me when I stepped back into the Humble Bungalow Garden.

I made an easy peasy Frittata for dinner which I served with some steamed vegetables.

Frittata

5 mushrooms sliced
2 diced green onions
cherry tomatoes halved
6 eggs beaten
1/2 cup milk (or Cream)
1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese
sprinkling of fresh ground pepper
1 tsp. herbs de Provence

Bake at 350 for about 45-50 minutes until centre is firm and eggs are cooked.
This keeps well covered in the fridge and is a Weight Watcher friendly lunch or dinner.

Watched an episode of The Durell's in Corfu
and gave myself a manicure.
The shade is called Jag-U-Are
I do love a shiny glossy red nail varnish...

Feeling such relief knowing that our darling daughter and her hubby are safe in Wellington after the earthquake.
We have been chatting and the hotel upgraded them to the penthouse after they saw the damage in their suite...they have an expansive view of the harbour.

My thoughts are with the people in New Zealand...

Today lets all try and do something nice for someone who needs help.
Random Acts of Kindness are a win win for both the giver and the receiver.

I admire your proactive (a brisk walk) response to your discouragement. Keep up the conscientious approach to the challenge. It WILL pay off!

Good news about your daughter and son-in-law.

I prefer to walk on days like that, love how all the colors look more vivid among the gloom.
Every trip needs a little mishap, they certainly got theirs! Glad they've been upgraded. The frittata looks so good!

Today was beautiful! I walked around Garry Point. There was absolutely no wind here. We could see across to your island. I'm not making much progress with weight loss but I am walking more. Yesterday, at church, the sermon was about how there are no problems, only opportunities. Perhaps we only need to change how we think about things. I'm economizing
so I have not had a manicure for some time. Maybe I should paint my own nails a bright colour for fun. Do you make the frittata in a quiche pan?

Frittata looks delicious!

I used to walk 2X a day when my dog, Sunny, was still here. I love walking, and even if I start out cold, miserable and cranky, I return uplifted. Working full time, it's easy to make excuses not to get out there. You live in such a beautiful part of the world, I'm envious. Weight... goes on easy, so hard to take it off. Keep fighting the fight!!

I have lost about ten pounds, not trying too hard, but purposefully increasing vegetables, mainly in soups, fibre, and probiotics. Less meat. More fish. More beans and peas. Less eating out. Fewer salty foods. Bagels, cheese, and snacks have more salt than I need. But not depriving myself either. I like Kawartha Dairy icecream so it resides in the freezer. I also like pumpkin pie, but my wedges are slender. I am drinking a detox tea in the mornings. No snacks. Healthy fats: avocado, nuts, peanut butter. Berries for energy. Gradually increasing the superfoods.

Good luck. Take heart. Consistency pays off. I salute you for walking in all weathers.

Your floral finds always bring me joy. Thank you so much.

So glad you have heard from your daughter and son-in-law and they are ok, I too live in NZ right at the very top of the South Island in Golden Bay, so not too far from Blenheim, we also felt the quake and it gave us a large prolonged rumble and good ole shake about, very scary to be woken from a deep sleep to that!!we have been experiencing aftershocks ever since and they are disconcerting to say the least!!I have two cats & every time the house creaks they are on the alert, thankfully they were inside the other night, I found them scared and hiding in our spare bedroom!!poor souls, On a brighter note I'm loving your beautifully knitted poncho it looks so lovely with your beautiful brooch & scarf. Keep up your walking & healthy eating I'm on the same crusade, a slow process though and so easy to get disheartened & sadly so much harder to shift as we age :)

Thank you Rebecca!
Fingers crossed that the weight will start to budge...it is much more challenging than I thought it would be...perhaps I need the structure and the regular meetings and weigh ins at WW.

You would like our fall and winters here Stephen as we have many many days that are foggy, grey, with winds and rain...ah such are the joys of living in the PNW!

It was a much nicer day!
I am starting to think that I need to add a weight training aspect to my regular walks...
I did use a quiche pan to bake the frittata...you could use any dish as long as the sides are higher than a pie plate as the eggs rise up when they are cooked.
I would encourage you to add a splash of colour and why not paint your own nails?

It is and very handy to have in the fridge for a quick lunch or a light dinner.

If I had a dog I know that I would be out walking more frequently...but with two crazy cats I think a dog is not in the cards!
I refuse to give up on the weight loss...I do not want to buy new clothes in a bigger size so that is my goal...it is just taking longer to see results this time around...I need to be patient!

Great tips Honey Bee! Thank you for sharing them...

Darling daughter and her hubby are now at the Olive Grove in Renwick with family...she sent pictures and it looks absolutely gorgeous!
The poncho is so cozy...and yes we must keep up the exercise, monitor our food intake and try not to get discouraged!
Hope the aftershocks ease up a bit now...I read that there were over 400!

I admire your dedication to walking in all weathers as that wind can be quite cutting. I am sure your efforts will pay off. Thanks for your continued recipes as I often try them out. Earthquakes can be very scary things and what a relief that your daughter and family are safe.

My comment got lost :-(. It happens often-maybe because of mobile phone?
Frittata looks delicious, colourful and healthy! I make it sometimes with leek instead of spring onions
Beautiful colours- flowers and your nails!

Take heart, Hostess. I, too, am looking at my goal weight in the rear view mirror. I just don't have the commitment right now to follow the plan religiously. But I have increased my classes to 4 days a week and identified a fifth to take in January. This will guarantee me 5 days with a one hour aerobic session. And my doctor told me to beef up the weight routine. (Shouldn't be too hard since I really don't do any.) The suggestions by Anonymous above were very good and seemed to work for her. Might be worth a try until I can confidently return to the WW program.

You're so good about walking. I'm terrible at making myself go out the door. Of course your scenery is heavenly!! I love red polish but my fingernails are too fragile to bother :(. Have a great day! xx

Absolutely, we can and should be more tolerant and kind. All day, every day.
My weight has bothered me since I was 11. I've always been on a diet. I was always thin, but I didn't think thin enough. Now, I'm not thin. I'm 30 lbs overweight and on some days I think, "so what." I've earned every single pound through hideous stress and unbearable circumstances. But I have beautiful clothes hanging, hanging. Some have never been worn. They might even be out of style. But here they are, surrounding me with more stress. At least you have the beauty of the landscape around you to calm your nerves. In Houston this weekend they say we will be down into the 40's which is like serious winter to us. Let me see if I can find a BIG wrap to put myself into. xx's

I have quite a few coats and jackets and puffy vests so that I am warm and cozy when I walk...it is how I rationalize having so many! It does make a difference if I am comfortable...

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

I seldom cook with leeks but I really must be more adventurous and try using them more often...French women swear by leek soup as a weight reduction strategy.

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

I do not attend any classes and perhaps I should...weight training seems to make a big difference and my upper body could benefit from the stronger muscles!

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

The scenery is a great motivator...and I am rather frugal so not spending money at the gym is why I opt for walking.

If we are honest about it we do have issues about our figures and weight.
I was a chubby child and being so short does not help either and loving to cook and eat is a double whammy...that and a hypothyroid condition which makes it more challenging losing weight...but I do not want to give up the fight!
Big wraps are cozy too :-))

Leeks give a slightly different taste(if you like leeks :-))
Leek soup,as well as "magical cabagge soup"- onions in big pieces,as well as cabagge, celeriac root, carrots, cooked with chopped tomatoes from can or jar- ) is actually good for a couple of days detox before starting a more healthy regime,or as a recovery after too much processed food

Good for you for getting out and walking even though you preferred staying in. Sounds like you were rewarded with some lovely sights. I'm sure you were relieved to hear the news re your daughter.
I, too, am battling with re-gained weight. Arg. Not fun.
