Giveaway recipient...a dilemma for Mr. HB!

Greetings from The Humble Bungalow!

We have been busy of late with many lovely seasonal events and one particularly very special one today...a precious school pageant starring all the pupils of the private school that focuses on the arts as well as the mandated BC curriculum.
Our sweet red headed granddaughter Isla,
sang solo parts of a song by Sarah Brightman "The Music of The Night"
that moved this Grammy to tears....
MR. HB's eyes weren't the driest either!

I have been "under the weather" with a stiff neck this past week
and attribute it to too much knitting or possibly a virus.
I have been trying to keep warm and cozy by wearing a fleecy jacket and cashmere socks.

But enough about me...
Mr. HB had to choose the recipient of the WW slow cooker recipe cookbook and he found it a tougher job than he signed on for so he narrowed it down to two...

So...dear reader he did what many people do when in doubt...

The Finel mid century bowl was put into action with the two entries inside...

He pulled this one out of the bowl.
Carol Woodard please send me an email with your mailing address
and I will send you the book.

We entered the 50/50 and the wine draw tonight at the pageant...
no wins here but so glad that we can help support a great school and see our sweet grand daughter on stage.

Hope you are having a lovely week.

May I just say that I have had an outpouring of support from readers who were feeling uncomfortable about the rude comments and I would like to take this opportunity to say that you have restored my faith in human nature.

Congratulations to Carol, I am happy that she received the gift. Just entering the contest motivated me to pick out a few recipes on line to make in my slow cooker- i even made chili last night and served it over noodles for my family (though i just had the chili without noodles). Thank you for considering me in the first place. SIncerely,
Nadya

I really enjoy children's Christmas pageants. As a teacher, I realize how many hours of work
are involved in the presentation and as a parent, I used to take the opportunity to host a small "pre-concert" gathering for the grand-parents. I hope that your neck is better soon. Monsieur Là-Bas has a compressed disc and he has just started to see a chiropractor. I am sure that you are relieved to have restored peace and kindness to your blog, especially in the holiday season. Enjoy!

Hello Leslie, I just wanted to chime in and congratulate Carol on winning the draw. Both comments were lovely, but you only had one book ....

I was also sorry to read those nasty comments ... yes, why do people keep reading blogs that they don't like? Oh well, you have taken 'control' now and can make sure that the comments are reasonable. Extra work for you, but we thank you for it.

I always loved attending the concerts for my nieces and nephews - so sweet - and as you say - not a dry eye in the house! How lovely that you were both able to attend,
I think your hubby did the fairest thing possible - and congratulations to the winner.
I too was shocked by the very mean anonymous comments - but not at all shocked by the support that you received from all your lovely followers - hope that this support let's you know how much we all love your posts and your photos!

Thank you Nadya and I hope that you have fun trying out new recipes for your slow cooker. I also enjoy looking online for new recipes as there are so many great cooks out there!

You would know about these performances as they do require a lot of advance planning and work...
I so appreciate the time and dedication that teachers like yourself, have given to students.
A compressed disc is not pleasant and is incredibly painful...MR. HB had one years ago and he ended up having surgery, which thankfully was successful.
Hope you have a lovely week and I heard that we may get some snow this weekend!

Patricia I am not accustomed to rude comments and I had hoped not to moderate but the comments escalated and increased. Supportive emails from regular readers suggested that I stem the tide of the nastiness and after due consideration I decided that they were right.
It is fairly easy to moderate comments...Blogger must have known that there would be a need for certain bloggers to use it or they would not have designed such a tool.

I always cried when my children sung in the school choir or performed on stage at these events...I cry at weddings too.
I am not alone in these verbal online attacks...apparently they are quite common...and for the life of me I do not understand.it.
Blogger Jennifer Connelly who writes a fashion blog A Well Styled Life is currently experiencing the same deluge of nastiness. I wish all people could be kind, I know that sounds naive but I honestly mean it.

Gosh so do I twix,
I think you have experienced this too.

Please add me to the list of those who are saddened by rude comments. I have noticed an increase of anger and rudeness in general these days in some circles, and I think that the current political context, at least in the USA (though we are not alone)models and gives license to it. Kindness matters more than ever and I continue to find delight in your blog and its tone. Hope your neck recovers quickly. I find I have to limit how long I knit at a session recently or I have shoulder and neck woes. Since I'm not a really fast knitter, this doesn't bode well for gifts with deadlines!! I am proud to report that I just finished a lacy and (for me) challenging baby blanket to welcome a grandaughter and the due date is still a week off. Small victories!

You must be very excited about the imminent birth of your grandchild...and how wonderful that you finished the baby blanket! Good for you for trying a more complicated pattern. It will be a family keepsake and one that is cherished over the years.
I knit a basic blanket with an alternating block pattern and a contrasting stitched border for all three of our grandchildren.
I have been knitting a lot lately too...the cozy knitted clothes that are available are just so adorable on babies and children.
Hooray for "Small victories!"

Nadya,
What a surprising response from a runner up. You are a wonderful young woman....and a winner in my book!

I'm sorry to hear of your neck troubles. I, too, have been under the weather - tummy troubles. Better today and hope I keep improving. Hope you feel better soon. I am knitting Grandmother's Favorite dishcloths - knit on the diagonal with an edge that is made as you go - and also a baby blanket from the same pattern. The baby blanket is taking a long time as I've ripped it out more than once! I am a slow knitter and this is the only pattern I can do, at this point!

Congratulations to Carol ..Mr HB made wise choices ..hope it wasn't too stressful for him!
What an emotional time for you both hearing Isla sing ..you must be so proud of her ...as you are of all your grandchildren I'm sure ..But to see and hear her sing in a school play must be a very special moment.
Hope you're having a good week.

Hostess,
You did not accept my compliment of that lovely young woman who was the runner up in your giveaway. Why? I thought she was a very fine example of the decorum you approve of. I was pleasantly surprised and very impressed with Nadya's graciousness. Did you not agree?

Now I feel I did something wrong...and I must be on your "bad list". I don't understand what you are looking for in terms of what is now an acceptable comment.

Congratulations to Carol! Echoing the sentiments about the trolling ... too bad you to make the adjustments to end it, but how nice to rid of that nuisance. Oh, so many lovely knitters out there! Children and grandchildren performances are the best, aren't they? jen

Thank you Adrienne...I think I am on the mend.

There are a lot of people ill right now...I hope you bounce back quickly. Sending you a big hug.
I love that dishcloth pattern and have seen it used as a blanket too...well done!

He smiled through the whole process and we both had a laugh when he put the two names in the bowl for the draw!!!
My week is super busy but I am happy!

I just got home after a busy day Gloria. I was out all day and babysitting my grandchildren. They are so busy that I cannot take my eyes off them for a second! I make sure that they are safe on my watch!
I just opened up my laptop and saw both your comments and am happy to publish them both....of course I agree with you!

Grandchildren performing...filling our hearts with JOY.
Feel so blessed that we are able to enjoy them and watch them grow up...our grand daughter looked so serious and mature on the stage and her solo made us feel so proud.

I agree Gloria, Nadya has shown great manners.

In a way I feel sorry for those that seek to inflict pain in this manner - and spoil things for both the blogger and the readers - they must have very little else going on in their lives to be able to dedicate time to such nastiness. It's sad and pathetic but no need to encourage it - you've done the best you can and I don't think it's really personal - they just pick on someone who obviously enjoys life and strike out because their lives are so empty - judging by other bloggers I know of who have experienced similar attacks - it does seem to be those who are positive and delight in life that are attacked the most so you are at least in good company!

Margie,
I must agree with you...it is sad to think that people want to inflict their gloom on others who embrace the good things in life and seek out beauty and prefer to be joyful. We all experience dark days and there are many who suffer from depression and chronic pain which I can understand as I have been there and have come out of the bouts with an invigorated and focused approach to embrace the little things in life that make me happy. My wish is that we work at finding solutions and tools that make our way through life a richer and more rewarding journey.
