Victoria Day Long Weekend...aboard ship!

This past weekend was a long weekend so we took to the sea...

Our "humble" boat is a 27 foot 1996 Sea Ray Sundancer.

We can cruise fast or slow depending on the weather and our mood.

I always take flowers from the Humble Bungalow Garden.
My all time favourite David Austin Rose is Jude the Obscure.
I know it is not fair choosing just one rose but I cannot help myself...
as Jude is sheer perfection in a rose
Fragrance, form, and colour all exceptional.

I use silverware on the boat.
It might strike you as odd but there is a reason that we have this on board.
When I went shopping to outfit the boat with the few necessities that we needed I was trying to keep the costs down...
when one buys a boat it is usually a tad expensive so I tried to cut corners elsewhere...
I ventured into the big box stores looking for stainless sets and the ones I liked were around $100 a set.
I saw this one in the antique shop for less than half that and it is vintage WMF from Germany...I only need to polish it twice a year to keep it looking good.

I pack my tote bag full of books and magazines
there is plenty of time to relax and read.

We eat simple meals.
I have a one burner stovetop, microwave and BBQ.
Our small fridge prevents us from bringing too much food!
I eat oatmeal with a wee bit of honey for breakfast and Mr. HB prefers V8 juice and a bagel.
Dinners and lunches revolve around salad and some type of protein...
maybe a few new baby potatoes with butter and fresh mint.

"Snacks" are often naughty...
chips and popcorn...
 chocolates.

We try to walk or swim everyday.

I read Motherland by Maria Hummel.
It is a well written story about the hardships that women and their families had to live through during the Second World War.

It held my interest right from the very first page...
I highly recommend it.

I am a magnet for mosquitoes so I need to wear these bracelets!

Here is the beautiful morning view at Poets Cove Resort on Pender Island.

The roses in the morning sunshine.

We went for a hike in the forest.

It was cool in the shade and there was a lot of buzzing so I was glad that I wore my mosquito bracelet!

The rocky shoreline is mostly sandstone.

The weather was much better than we had anticipated...
blue skies and sunshine and very little wind.
My favourite kind of weather for cruising!

This is the view the last morning
before we packed up and came home.

Today I am doing laundry...and the skies are grey and the weather cool.
I am so grateful that we had such nice weather for our getaway.
Our house and cat sitter made the weekend possible and I am so thankful.

I am still trying to figure out why my blog will not appear on the Feed as soon as I publish it and I have contacted Blogger but have not heard anything yet.
I am using smaller images on this post to see if that is what is the delay...
so please bear with me as I work on sorting out this issue.

What a wonderfull weekend,Hostess! I adore sea (or any other water). Your boat is great-just the right size.Lucky you! My father is sick,so I really don't know if and when could I go to the seaside .
Beautiful roses!
I love WMF-my sets are WMF(I've got it as a wedding gift) and Berndorf(also from Germany,it is more beautiful-only for 6- I've have never find the other 6).
Have you read The Nightingale from Kristin Hannah( Paris, story of two sisters in WW2)? I liked it very much
Is your bracelet against ticks too?
Hope you'll have so nice weekend again soon
I have problems with comments for your blog on my tablet so I write on my mobile phone

What a perfect few days Leslie. Lovely that you and your husband get to spend this time together just relaxing...swimming etc. Good that you had great weather too :)
I've asked before, but maybe you didn't see it, please can you let me know which date you published your post on things that make you happy, then you asked your readers what "gets their happy on"? I think I commented on 13th May but I know I was a little late. It was such a great post that I planned to read it again but I can't seem to find it! Many thanks!

What a beautiful report from your weekend. And that hike you took into the woods---I am envious. Be sure to let us know if you think the mosquito bracelets work.

What a beautiful weekend to have been on the boat! I chuckled at the silverware on the boat and felt a bit embarrassed -- our wedding silverware (Rogers plate, still in its wooden case) was a casualty of our downsizing and I'm sure that if some boater wants to outfit her boat as you have, she can find them in a thrift store nearby. . . Shame, shame, I know, but I got tired of washing them separately and I won't have room for a stainless set AND the silver. Guaranteed none of my daughters or DIL would have wanted them either. So it's good to know that someone, somewhere will think they're a great find and happily polish them into the future. . .
I'll be very curious to know if Blogger ever gets back to you. I'm not convinced there's anyone behind that curtain. . .

It is wonderful when we have a warm and dry Victoria Day weekend. I should use our silver as we have 2 sets of it. The stainless sets that I buy seem to break quite easily. Have you read Light Between Oceans? I just read it for the second time (book club) and thoroughly
enjoyed it. It might be a good boat read. I'll second Dottoressa about The Nightingale although the story seemed familiar to me. Your boat looks very comfortable.

Love your boat and the way you have it kitted out! It's so lovely, nothing like life on the water. So happy too you lucked out with the weather, it looks gorgeous. XO

I am sorry to hear of your father's ill health...it is so stressful when a family member is ailing. The sea side is a tonic...have you read A Gift From the Sea by Anne Morrow Lindbergh? I read it years ago and felt her story incredibly soothing.
I will add The Nightingale to my Paris reading list thank you!
No the bracelet does not help with ticks...I am very concerned about Lyme disease and would not want a tick bite EVER!
I am sorry that you cannot leave comments from your tablet on my blog...thankfully you have the phone.

Oh I think it has disappeared from my feed...let me see if I can re publish that post. Strange things are going on here on my blog...and I cannot figure it out!

So far the bracelets have helped me...the citronella scent is quite powerful...I have also tried Skin So Soft oil by Avon which works for many people but has not kept them away from me! Will report back on this after a few more exposures.

Oh your silver will delight a thrift hunter...I think you are wise to get rid of things that no longer fill a purpose or bring you joy. Silver requires polishing and that can be tedious...I actually do not mind doing it but I have only a few pieces...Mother on the other hand had SO much as they were wedding gifts and she is only now parting with a few things.
No one at Blogger has bothered to contact me...they may be working hard behind the scenes who knows...I can only hope!

Oh no I have not read that book...must add it to my list. I have enjoyed all the books that you have suggested over these past few years.
Silver looks so much nicer than stainless but then I do like shiny things...

Thank you Dani!
If our boat was bigger I would love to have some blue and white crockery...maybe even a ginger jar! Our boat is cozy and big enough for two to be comfortable yet not too much work to keep clean and tidy...which allows for more reading and swimming! It is a bit different from cottage life as the views keep changing!

Heavenly! Boating the Hostess way just might convince me to get out on the water. Everything looks perfect and perfectly delightful!

Love the roses. Always like to read about your book recommendations. I sure could use that mosquito bracelet as I, too, am a magnet for mosquitoes. Can you tell us more about it? Where does one find such things? Thank you.

I purchased mine at Ace Hardware in Friday Harbour on San Juan Island...they were in the camping section. I have never seen them in Canada. I will continue to look and if I do not find them I have an excuse to go to the US on holiday!

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

As I mentioned above I found them at Ace Hardware in the camping section...they smell strongly of citronella and last up to 120 hours of wear...you keep them tightly sealed when you are not wearing them to preserve the scent.

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

Oh and if I could share its fragrance here on the blog it would likely become everyones favourite!

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

Oops I meant to say 250 hours of wear!

Lucky you to have such nice weather for boating.
I use silver (sterling, and plate) at the cottage, and put it in the dishwasher. I've been doing this for many, many, years, and it's still fine. I only ever have to polish the rarely used pieces.
I put my old Royal Doulton Melrose in the dishwasher too, and the gold is still intact. My only complaint is that it can't go in the microwave.
