Glorious white Iceberg climbing Roses in the garden of Government House.
The roses look so elegant against the white stone wall.
One of the many Rose Gardens located within The Government House grounds.
The sound of running water adds such a calming sound to the space...
fountains are such a beautiful addition to a garden.
This gargoyle statue that has seen better days...
I wonder if someone took a hammer to his nose and ear
or perhaps he once teetered and toppled over.
A visitor left a rose offering...
There are benches throughout the garden to sit and relax.
The lush grounds of Government House is a lovely place for a walk.
There is a tea room located at stable and working area of the garden.
Hens and chicks are clucking away in a pen
and last year there was a lamb onsite grazing on the grass.
The Tea room serves light lunches and teas and it is open Tuesdays through Saturdays in the high season.
Staffed by an army of dedicated volunteers Government House grounds are well tended and beautiful.
There is a small Costume and Government House Historic museum on the site with admission by donation.
If you find yourself in Victoria BC on a holiday you might want to include this garden while you are visiting.
I borrowed this book from the library and spent a few hours sipping tea
while perusing the many gorgeous gardens featured inside...
looking at gardens is one of my favourite things to do.
Our Humble Bungalow looks best when the roses are all in bloom...
her paint is peeling and the painters will return shortly to give her a much needed makeover.
We are having some problems with the ancient plumbing.
(which is not much fun...)
I am expecting a plumber with a snake and a camera attached to delve deeper and tell us what we need to do to remedy the situation...
I hope it will not mean that we need to dig up the garden and install a new sewer pipe...fingers crossed it is an easy fix that does not cost the earth!
Thank you for stopping by my humble blog.

Stunning. Victoria is one of the prettiest cities.
Oh, my goodness! Whenever you show garden pictures from Victoria I ask myself why we live in Calgary. Hopefully your plumbing problems can be fixed without digging up your beautiful garden. It might be worth looking into a "trenchless" repair.
Your garden is lovely as are all the other garden pictures you showed. Hope the plumbing troubles prove to be small.
Victoria is such a lovely garden city! Don't picture books (adult) from the library enrich your life? I hope that your plumbing problems don't entail too much digging and disruption. The roses are gorgeous.
Such pretty photos Leslie. I didn't know Iceberg roses could climb! Here we grow them mostly standing up;).
oh that is a gorgeous garden. i love visiting them, those are the best days. your garden is stunning too. praying your plumbing repairs are easy on the budget and the garden. xo
Jen you are such a wonderful follower I eagerly look forward to you comments.
Well we pay a big price to live here in a 100+ year old bungalow....not one of my favourite days...the sewer pipe is broken and we may need to dig up the front garden....
I am not happy but it could be worse.
They are bigger than I expected....$$$$$
Will know more tomorrow and it is after all only money...but I could fly to Paris and stay for a couple of weeks...insert sad face.
They are such pretty roses....and my thoughts are with you...plumbing problems are not THAT big in the whole scheme of things...XO
Oh I so LOVE Gardens !
We have a back hoe scheduled to dig tomorrow....it will be expensive.
The cats were freaked out and I tried to read my book but kept feeling like I should be back at work to help MR. HB pay for this... maybe I should come out of retirement...but what to do? Sell my Hermes scarves?
Beautiful pictures ...it looks as though you had a relaxing, peaceful stroll :) while I remember, your new instagram picture is lovely! Such a good photograph of you ...you really suit black and gold. Sorry to hear about your plumbing problems. I see you may have to dig up some of your front garden ...hope it's not too disruptive to you ...and your flowers!
My daughter and fiancé are in Paris at the moment ...their first visit together. Our gift to them to celebrate their Engagement and Birthdays. I've been so excited during the planning phase ...for them ...but wishing I was going too! ( not with them of course, wouldn't want to intrude on what I'm hoping will be a wonderful time for them)

So sorry your plumbing problem is going to be expensive and destructive to your beautiful garden. The photos cheer me up on a dreary day. Our English roses are only just in bud but I await their blooming in anticipation. This week is Chelsea Flower Show and luckily we are getting excellent television coverage. You would love the gardens.
Your roses are always glorious, and I do love the arum lilies which complement them so well. How beautiful are those white flowers, and that you can go to Government house to see the garden. In Brisbane that only happens one or two days a year!
Just to clarify, I meant the picture on your blog that links through to your Instagram page!

Paris is a romantic place and perfect for a couple in love...what a lovely gift!
The Chelsea Garden Show would be a fabulous distraction for the plumbing woes...I will have to see if I can get to watch any on the TV or computer. Enjoy the show!
The grounds are open every day until dusk...when Princess Diana and Prince Charles stayed there many years ago the grounds were closed for security reasons...probably when any high ranking diplomat or Royal is in residence the grounds are probably off limits...but that is not too often.
Thank you Rosie.
Good luck with all the maintenance on the HB. There is always something!
Just lovely and your garden is one of the best. So pretty! I love the pink climbing rose.
Your climbing roses look amazing!
Thanks for the photos of the iceberg roses. I'm looking for a white climbing rose to plant at my cottage.
Victoria Garden is lovely! And your climbing roses look gorgeous against your house!
Your front garden is gorgeous.
