As well as being my husband, father of our two wonderful children, he works hard at his craft.
Mr. HB is clever, he's scientific, mathematical, detail oriented and his artistic creativity knows no bounds...
put all those talents together and you'll arrive at architecture.
I have decided to put this post together as he recently took me to see his newly opened UVIC University Centre Food Services project and I got to view first hand what he has been up to for the last four years of planning and this past year overseeing the construction. He's a busy fellow!
(all the while working on other projects)
A picture is worth a thousand words so I'll let the pictures do most of the talking...
a living wall feature
lush greenery
"the boardwalk"
flooring snakes through the various food kiosks
We visited very early Saturday morning before the masses decended...
This is a bit different from my usual post topics but one that is very near and dear to my heart.
It is hard to me to imagine just how much work goes on behind the scenes of a successful project...
I only know many hours (years) are put into making a project of this scope happen.
When friends ask to go for a walk I might suggest we wander along the campus nature trails and then stop for a coffee or a bite to eat at the Food Services venue at The University Centre...
Thank you Mr. HB for another exciting venue!

How wonderful! It's must be something to see all your handwork being enjoyed by so many people. I love the living wall...would love to have one myself. Well done, Mr. HB!
What a bright and comfortable facility! So much detail and planning must go into the creation of the space. Today's students will certainly be able to enjoy the ambiance.
Really spectacular architecture. Having been an architectural designer, I do know how much work goes into it, and I can see that he took care with each and every detail. I wanted to be an architect, but sadly, no math skills....at all. He's very, very talented and I know how proud you are. So nice of you to share with all of us.
Ooh, I'm passionate about architecture. Well done, Mr HB !
wow, really beautiful! I love all the details, including that living wall. Those students are very fortunate to have such a great space.
Fabulous work Mr. H.B. has done. Tell him congratulations. I'm glad you showed this to us.
Wow, that's just amazing! I love the living wall and all the use of wood. Fabulous!
Awesome! What a lovely place to gather and dine. Congratulations to Mr. HB... Well done!
I am awestruck. Thank you for this glimpse behind the scenes.
What a fantastic job your husband did on this building. It looks functional, but beautiful. I especially love the chairs in the eating area.
Such a talent!
This is an amazing space. What a great talent...it is all so beautiful and looks very functional at the same time. My congratulations for a wonderful, wonderful job.
WOW Mr HB certainly is talented.
Kind Regards
Karen
Well done! Your husband is a very talented man. I was just in Oak Bay this weekend visiting my oldest son and his family and found myself looking for you as we were out and about in he community. :-)
That's a fantastic new venue Mr HB. The living wall is a wonderful touch.
Wonderful! No wonder you're so proud. I've spent many, many hours on that campus during my grad school years, and the Food Services venues really needed this -- a gorgeous facility on an already very attractive campus. The light will be particularly welcome during the grey months we've entered into now, especially the way those windows look out on UVic's great landscaping.
This is fantastic, it's very BCesque. Do you think Mr. HB could do a guest blog and tell us how the living wall was made and how it's maintained and whether the same concept would work outside? Gonzales beach cottage.
What a beautiful space! The living wall is wonderful, and I love the curving boardwalk.
wow! Just lovely! Tell him congrats from me!
It's so bright and modern looking. Perfect for UVic. Kudos for a job well done.
Well done Mr. HB! Nice to know a bit about you!
Well that would gloat, brag, what have you...the space is beautiful. And to think he is all yours.
You must be so proud of his accomplishment. Thanks for sharing M. HB's creative work with us. He is so talented!
What a beautiful space! Lucky people that get to enjoy Mr. H's creative talent. Off topic, but I was wondering if you could do a post on the Emma Bridgewater pottery. I have just started collecting this pottery and adore it! I would love to see your collection. Thanks!
What a great post! It's so interesting to see Mr. HB's work. Wow!
Mr. HB is far too busy working on his projects to put together a blog post but he has given me a couple of links that may be helpful...
The Living Wall is a manufactured system by a company called Dirrt. :http://www.dirtt.net/public/products/breathe.php
It is an interior product but there are lots of systems for outside use such as: http://livewall.com
Pop over to the Demitasse on McNeill Street in Oak Bay and ask how they maintain the one that they have growing on the front of the shop. They sell plants and there ia a landscaper on staff who will no doubt be able to help you create one of your own.
Mr. HB appreciates all your positive comments, thank you.
Brenda,
I really have a small collection of Emma's pottery...a clock, a few mugs, a bowl and a tin tray...I will try and post pictures from the earlier archived posts when I received the first pieces for my birthday several years ago.
You may need to be patient like Linda C was when she asked for a post on rosacea...it took me awhile before I got my act together!
Very impressive work!
