White Wednesday flowers....

I have often toyed with the idea of a dedicating a spot here in the Humble Bungalow Garden for only white blooming flowers and plants.

I heard about the white garden at Sissinghurst Castle many years ago when I was active in the local horticultural society. Members would make pilgrimages to gardens far afield then return with carousels full of slides and guide a captive audience through their journey abroad. It was so easy sitting back in my chair for a few hours and dreaming that I was walking through those lavish gardens myself.

Stephanie Barron has written a book titled  "The White Garden"
a mystery richly steeped in history and Sissinghurst Castle is the backdrop for the novel.
Virginia Woolf and Vita Sackville-West are characters in this story...I must try and get my hands on it!

Pure white blooms are so elegant.

Radiant brides of the garden.

Strolling in the garden after dark, lit only by the moon and the stars, white blooms glow.
Often when sending flowers I choose all white bouquets as they suit any decor.
Sympathy bouquets in white seem appropriately serene and peaceful.

I bought this vintage crystal vase years ago in a local antique shop.

It has a few minor chips on the rim so I arrange the flowers carefully to conceal these imperfections

it has a slight yellow tinge which I think gives it character.

It is very heavy with a sturdy base

so it can handle a lot of flowers without the danger of tipping over.

On an a Arts and Crafts plant stand 

in a corner of the dining room

sit

a white orchid

in a Weller jardinere

a taller Weller vase

and 

a Bretby 3 handled vase 

pink tinges the scalloped edges of the rose petals

a day or two in the hot sun fades this pretty pink 

whiter 

This rose reminds me of Sally Holmes

she was a vigorous creamy rose that I received on the occasion of my 40th birthday from dear friends

sadly she got hit hard by the frost this past winter and died

she is missed 

I think of her every time I go out on the front porch as she climbed up one of the pillars

and 

put on a dazzling display.

I have started a delightful new book by Julia Glass "I See You Everywhere" it's a page turner.
I read  Three Junes a few years ago and love her writing style.
As with most good authors she hooks you right at the beginning and holds your interest...which makes it difficult to put down and get on with other things...like weeding and laundry!

Blogger how timely, you've hidden my followers, so here goes nothing!

Blogger glitches have arrived here in the Humble Bungalow...
my followers have disappeared or perhaps have run fleeing to the hills.

Well maybe I am blogging to an audience that is not there!
What a great time to push the envelope and my comfort level
and try to practice my new attempt at acceptance.

It was recently suggested by Janet and The Suburban Princess that I model the new LBD...
so with that in mind I thought I would dive right into the deep end
I know how to swim but
it will take every ounce of courage I can muster.
(I feel the same way that I did when I was 6, standing at the edge of the pool...I was fearful and shaking)

I asked Mr. HB to take a few pictures of me in my new LBD
this bamboo dress makes me feel happy when I have it on.

A new LBD...and thoughts for today.

Oh I do love a figure flattering wisp of an LBD!
Coco Chanel gave us the original and her classic vision is still alive today.

I have recently purchased a summer version in soft and sumptuous bamboo.
It feels like liquid against my skin.
The very minute that I put it on I knew.
I opened the curtain of the dressing room and the clerk smiled.

Made by the Canadian company "Gilmour" a line that I highly recommend.
Almost every piece that the company makes fits and flatters plus the retail prices are quite modest.
I look specifically for their pieces and ask my favourite local boutique to call me when they have a new shipment.

I bought this one in Large
as the Medium clung greedily to my wobbly bits!
I do not want to look like the "Michelin Man"...
(I wonder if there is a female version a Ms. or Mrs. Michelin)

The art of camouflage is the order of dressing that I employ these days.
I am not ashamed of my body, after all it is the vessel in which I reside and it carries me through my daily round.
I am coming to terms with my figure...expectations, reality and dreams muddy the waters.
Ultimately it is acceptance that I am seeking.

This dress accentuates the positive and minimizes the negative
is easy to wear that I am going to be wearing it a lot because it makes me feel happy,
and what's not to love about feeling happiness?

I wore it with the wide self belt wrapped twice around my waist
donning casual black flip flops and I felt very feminine....
I had the new Kate Spade bag on my shoulder, an armful of silver bangles, my sunglasses
and there was a bounce in my step.
Fleetingly and dreamily I entertained the thought of channeling Sophia Loren...
(a great actress, with an hourglass figure who always looks lovely and I regard highly)
The time has come for role models that are older and wiser...

I could not put this book down!

Linda is a very gifted writer and she started it all with her blog.

A dear friend leant it to me a few days ago and I read it in one day...

if you like fashion it is a must read.

Her insight is keen and if you are in your 50's 

you might identify with her experiences like I did.
