and we are today
I have a confession...
My all time favourite OOTD to wear is a white Tee or shirt and pair of great fitting jeans.
They can be worn with diamonds, gold or pearls...
a Hermes silk scarf, a pashmina, a thrifted woolen wrap,
they can be worn with heels, ballet flats, boots or flip flops...
a Chanel tweed, a leather Moto jacket or a soft well worn hoodie.
If I only could choose one outfit for the rest of my days.....
jeans would figure prominently in the equation.
It might sound silly coming from a grown woman who is just a few weeks away from 60
I am here to confess that "I DO LOVE JEANS!"
I've worn jeans for decades and think I always will...
they are on my "desert island list"
after sunscreen, moisturizer, mascara and lip balm.
My tatty 2 year old g21 skinny jeans have worn out their welcome,
but it's not surprising with so many wearings and washings....
so they have been donated to the charity shop.
At $10, the cost per wearing must be less than 5 cents by now.
I've seen and heard of NYDJ jeans but have never actually tried a pair on until recently...
they are available in Petite which is wonderful because I really hate shortening jeans.
I didn't go looking for them, they rather fell off the hanger as I was perusing the racks at The Hudson's Bay store.
A woman of a certain age mentioned that she had several pairs of NYDJ and thought they made the best of a "woman's assets" Hmmm...
I thought I'd give them a try...
I'm not sure if I should be raving publicly about these jeans
(they may fall into that shadowy category referred to as "Mom jeans!")
Are the Fashion Police on duty?
I do like how they fit...
(I am a Mother and a Grand Mother)
A great fitting pair of jeans can take you most places...
not the red carpet, a funeral or a wedding
not in my crowd
BUT
they are on my "desert island list."
I have worn jeans since I was a teenager
plan to wear them forever
they have no expiration date...
and are so versatile in how you can style them.
I have put together a few jean OOTD options.

I think we might have the same friend. lol. Great jeans, I now have a couple of pairs. Ann
I have to share a story about jeans when I was a teenager...my Mother despised jeans, especially for her daughter. One day my older brother told me that his pair of jeans were too small for him, and gave them to me. The creative girl that I was, decided to embroider the pockets...oh they were an original, and I loved them!! Knowing that I wouldn't be able to wear them around my Mother, I made a plan with my best friend. I told her that when she would come in the mornings to go to school together, I would drop my wonderful jeans out my bedroom window, and she could put them in her knapsack. Then I could change into them at school, and I'd "fit" in with everyone else :) This plan worked for a few months, and somehow my Mother found out my trick (she was a clever momma)!! She took them out of my knapsack and threw them in our "coal & wood" furnace, and burned them up!! No daughter of hers would wear a pair of Jeans :(
I'm the same age as you and love my jeans. Mine usually come from Target. I've never tried NYDJ.......will have to have a look at them.
I absolutely love NYDJ jeans! However the price in Canada is quite shocking so I buy them when I am in the US.
I'd live in jeans every day if I could, and yes NYDJ's are some of my favorite pairs! I love all of the outfits you've put together, so stylish and chic.
Love NYDJ and have worn them for a few years. Very comfortable and wash and hold up really well.
Your "Paris" inspired outfit of jeans, striped tee, and red flats is my go-to outfit which I wear most often spring to fall.
I love British dramas and have just finished all 7 seasons of Foyle's War. Outstanding acting and a story line full of under layers. Fabulous writing and acting.
I wear jeans virtually every single day. AG is probably my favorite brand and "mom" jeans, higher waists, etc. are very fashionable right now, no need to worry about the fashion police.
I'm going to try Happy Valley, I've been reading and watching lots of crime drama/mysteries recently and that sounds like a good one.
I wear jeans most days. My favourites are by Renuar but I am wear Reitman's jeans for chores and walks. I have one pair (dress jeans) of NYDJ's that I got on sale at HBC but I do consider them to be expensive. When you finish Happy Valley, you might try Broadchurch. Monsieur and I have been watching British mysteries together as I won't watch action films or shows where there is excessive swearing.
I'm a jean lover, too. I've not tried the NYMJ brand, so thanks for that tip. I love that vintage wool jacket!
Last Tango in Halifax is a wonderful show. I just watched Happy Valley last weekend. In fact, I finished it in just two days. My only excuse was it was raining outside. But, truth be told, I think I would have binge watched even if it had been sunny and warm.
Of course, I meant NYDJ.
Oh yes please, I love jeans to the max! Robert, on the other hand, being VERY BRITISH, prefers me in skirts, so I do the happy compromise of mostly skirts when we're together and mostly jeans when we're apart. The other day I bought a pair of Lucky brand jeans and they fit really well. Love the random four leaf clover cotton print that the inside of the pockets are made of. Feels like a little something special and secret just for me. We watch an awful lot of BBC shows, both here and in England, but I love shows like Time Team and Great Railway Journeys, which can't be found on Netflix on Couchtuner, but we have something called a Slingbox on the TVs here and in E and that makes it possible to watch everything we like. Mind you, almost everything is available now thru the internet, isn't it? Oh, and there's a program called SurfEasy which tricks the internet into thinking your IP addy is in a different country, so we can watch BBC iPlayer and catch up on Gardeners World and Coast without a problem. :D By the way, love all your jean looks; very much my style as well. :D
I've seen those jeans but haven't ever tried them - thanks for the recommendation.
Love,Love,Love NYDJ. Have several pairs that I thrifted and they are indeed comfortable, stylish and hold up well wash after wash. Enjoy!
I was introduced to Kut from the Kloth jeans at Nordstrom this year and I love them. A little pricey, but if I wait for the Nordstrom sale, I may be able to score another pair. I have outgrown the "colored" jeans trend and find the eggplant ones I bought difficult to style. I am partial to ankle length jeans with ballerinas and boot-cut, with boos, of course!
That should have been boots. When will I learn to read before sending?
I LOVE NYDJ! I have several pairs and find they are well worth the money.
I'm 70 and still wear jeans and a black or a white t shirt every day. I just got the red/orange ballerinas from lands end for spring. For winter I wear boots or loafers. I like not having to think about what to wear in the am...so easy to dress up with a jacket and scarf!
I have not tried NYDJ, but think I should take a look at them next time I am at Nordstrom's. I have worn all kinds of other jeans, but not so much in the last few years. It has nothing to do with my age even though I will be 63 in a few weeks--it has do do with the fact that I don't look great in them. This is my fault. I need to get with the program!
I LIVE in jeans:). I like my cheap Levi's, my premium Citizens of Humanity, and my ridiculously expensive hipster selvedge jeans, each for their own occasion:).
I feel I am the only person in the world that can't wear NYDJ. None of the styles fit my big hips/small waist. I tend to have good luck at Target of all places!
Jeans are a classic, with just about everything. My pet peeve are jeans that are too tight. They just are not flattering in my book. I go for "skimming" not "gripping."
With this said, I do love the LL Bean Perfect Pants for something decent to wear while travelling for comfort
I love Paige jeans. They fit my body type the best. The next best for me are the Loft- Original Fit Boot Cut. I do have one pair of white NYDJ that I found in Steinmart for $29.99 I like them because they're thick enough not to show the outline of pocket lining through the denim.
I love the jeans/white tee shirt look but have trouble finding good cotton shirts. Perhaps my fault as I limit myself to a few select stores. I simply find large malls and stores overwhelming. All your looks are lovely.
Oh alright! I will be the fashion police! No, no no. Why adopt the uniform of the young? Baby boomers should become their own fashion icons? Why are 'jeans' of any type indispensable?
Because they are marketed to you as such. You are elegant, charming, well groomed women,
You do not need jeans! Choose to be grown ups. Sorry..........
I'm a baby boomer and I think jeans are our uniform. I've worn them all my life. Now that I'm retired I plan to wear my jeans and jacket or sweater every day.
Diane
You might be right!
My Mother would not allow me to wear jeans to school until I was in grade 10...you can imagine how I wanted to rebell...but I was never as creative as you were!
The Bay had them on at half price so it was a good time to buy them. My friend Ruth who loves them usually buys hers in the US too.
I just read an article in the Canadian Elle magazine about jeans...seems like they agree about the universal appeal.
Our Target stores in Canada are closing and I am so very disappointed...I loved shopping there.
The Lois brand made in Montreal and sold at Sears are fantastic and so cheap. No one seems to know about them but they are as good if not better than any high priced brand. Check them out at Sears at Hillside (or online).
I watched the first season of Foyle's War...
the quality of BBC and British dramas is just so entertaining and the acting is wonderful. As you might have surmised I am a big fan!
Let me know if you like Happy Valley...just a warning it is a bit violent, but not excessively so.
I have a Renaur dress which is comng to Paris...where do you buy their jeans?
We watched Broadchurch and Gracepoint, the remake which was filmed here in Victoria for the American and Canadian market....have you seen it?
The weather has kept a lot of us inside watching telly...
I know I have to push myself to get outside and walk at this dreary time of year...but it is much better than being snowed under like they are back east.
We have seen some of the Great railway Journeys but never heard of Time Team...I will ask my husband about SurfEasy...maybe we could see more British productions that way. We watch Coast too and I LOVE the host's Scottish accent!
They really fit well...
I hope you'll try them on and try to buy them when they are on sale!
So many of you are way ahead of me with these jeans!
Oh lucky you finding them at a thrift shop!
Sounds like you've got your signature look...love those ballet flats too!
I believe that there are jeans for every body...they all fit differently and there are so many styles to choose from...perhaps the NYDJ will work for you.
I have several different pairs of jeans too and have worn mine a lot since retiring...
they are very comfy and I think versatile. Of course I have black dress pants but I tend to work around home, go for walks and play with the grandchildren on the floor, so jeans work well for those activities.
Gosh who would be comfortable in too tight jeans? Awk!
It would be like wearing a girdle...I am all for comfort but they must not look too baggy or sloppy.
I've seen Paige jeans here but never tried them on....wow $29.99 is a steal for NYDJ!
My favourite crisp white cotton shirt is from Talbots...I have had several shirts over the years and I like the thicker weight cottons. Countess Mara made some great shirts back in the 1990's and I wore them until they were ready for the rag bag!
Tees I usually buy new every season because they are so vulnerable to spills and stains... Lands' End have some decent ones. I'd love to find the perfect white tee and always keep my eyes open for new ones.
I salute you Jenny!
Mother is in your camp too...
I do not choose to wear jeans to be youthful...with my wrinkles and grey hair anyone can see that I am past my prime!
I wear black dress pants, dresses and skirts too.
I love that you shared your thoughts and hope that you will continue to do so.
No need to apologize at all...we are all entitled to our opinions.
I haven't been to Sears for a long time...I was not aware of that brand of jeans.
Bravo that Lois jeans are made in Canada, and BTW the label in my NYDJ indicates that they are made in the US.
I'm a boomer too and I've been wearing jeans since I was seventeen - we weren't allowed to wear them to school - because of the studs (seriously?) I'm not loyal to any particular brand, I just wear what feels good - although it doesn't break my heart to see styles trending toward more relaxed fits....and slightly higher rises! I love your blog - I lived in Oak Bay for years but now I live in Ardmore....funny thing is I found your blog via Lisa's Amid Privilege! Small world we live in these days! Keep us posted on your Fort Street venture! Sounds like a great way to "smart-size"!
Jeans are so versatile. I don't wear them as much as I used to, but I like GAP jeans. The NYDJ didn't work for me the one time I tried them. Good thing there are so many styles of jeans out there so we can all find one that works for us.
I agree...the Lois brand of jeans are fantastic, and not near as dear as the Not Your Daughter's Jeans...more $$ for Paris!! I also have a Lois jean jacket which I love :)
Did you go to school in Oak Bay by any chance? I love Lisa's blog and she was the reason that I started blogging!
Those really low rise jeans are not that comfortable...so yes the higher rise is one to embrace!
I like GAP jeans too...I had a pair of their boyfriend jeans before I lost weight and loved them.
No - I grew up in Calgary but my son went to Shawnigan Lake and then his final year at Oak Bay. My daughter went to SMUS - they're both grown up now and living and working in Victoria - lucky me! No sign of "grands" in my immediate future but I live in hope... ;-) Have a wonderful weekend....
