We have escaped to the cottage...
which is located on a Southern Gulf Island just a short ferry ride away from home.
We stayed inside our car on the ferry and brought all our provisions with us.
The Salish Eagle ferry runs several times each day and services three Gulf Islands.
I bought some cheery yellow tulips at the grocery store before we hopped on the ferry...
Not sure that we would have such sunny weather...
thought they would bring the sunshine indoors!
Love the flotsam and jetsam on the driveway of this home.
One of our regular walks close to the cottage is about 3 km.
There is a beach at the end of the road...
we like to walk down and gather sea glass,
the tides were so high that there was no beach to be found!
We also gather feathers on our walks...
Some sea glass from the beach after the tide went out...
the vintage Ball Sealer jar is almost full.
We have two jars filled at home.
Time to buy another vintage jar for more sea glass.
Yesterday, we were ambitious and took a longer walk to Hope Bay.
It was almost 7 km return.
( I managed to clock over 10,000 steps)
Saw this festive gate at The Old Manse near the Bible Camp.
We saw very few people and even fewer cars...
so quiet, it was like we were all alone on the island.
Very peaceful and serene.
Life moves slowly here at the cottage...
Eat, walk, read, sleep
repeat.
Sipping Murchie's Paris Afternoon Tea
gazing out at the view over The Salish Sea.
Relaxing
Thinking, pausing, feeling fortunate and grateful
while writing this blog post...
Lots to think about in these strange times.
How are you keeping?
How are the Covid numbers where you live?
Are you managing to keep yourself busy and amused?
Hope that you are staying safe, wearing your mask and taking care.

Leslie, I always enjoy reading what you write and I am glad you have a place to escape during these hard times.
I live in Dallas, Texas and my nephew who is a Presbyterian minister tells me that funerals for those who have died are postponed for two weeks due to the fact that funeral homes are dealing with so many who have died from the Covid-19 virus.
Covid 19 is a fierce virus...we are older and fear getting it. So many people have passed away all across the world. I hope the vaccines will bring some relief to the masses. Funerals here have to be done virtually until our provincial health officer is satisfied that it will be safe to resume small gatherings...right now we are forbidden to gather indoors or outdoors with anyone who does not live under the same roof. We ARE allowed to go for a walk with a friend. It is a very precarious time that we are living in.
Stay safe Susan and thank you for sharing your comment.
Your island getaway is the perfect place to wait out this current set of restrictions. Your beach glass collection is wonderful! Stay safe and cozy.
Thanks for sharing your lovely getaway. I live in Australia and we are very fortunate to be rather more isolated from the rest of the world, and at present we are able to travel within our State and mostly in Australia but the borders are closed quickly if we have any cases and people returning from overseas are required to quaarantine in a specialy quaarantine hotel for 2 weeks and are regularly tested before they return to their homes.
Last thing first, our State seems to have dodged the spread of the more virulent UK strain of the virus, by a quick lockdown immediately the first case appeared.
It is great that you were able to go to the cottage despite the rules, and the walks must be magical. Love the beach glass, and the feathers - I am wondering how you display the feathers? The festive gate is gorgeous - I wonder if they leave it like that all year; very cheerful.
DOING ALL THE ABOVE SWEET HOSTESS!
HOLDING MY BREATH FOR TOMORROW THAT ALL GOES SMOOTH.............
Oh, your stories of relaxing by the sea refresh me. Although I live in the mountains, I love visiting the sea no matter the season. The Canadian Maritimes in the fall of 2019 and a perimeter tour of Ireland next fall (we hope)!
The Covid numbers increase on a daily basis by 1-5 people in the three counties closest to my home. But the total numbers are far less than the horrific spike of October and November. Locals were still thinking it was a hoax and not wearing masks. Folks from other states were visiting to see the fall colors without quarantining and usually unmasked. Our state Governor has done a great job of implementing plans to control the spread, but people have to cooperate! He has specific plans for the roll-out of the vaccine. Very measured but sane. All of that being said, we are still able to visit our kids. Our daughter lives and works alone and our son lives alone, works on campus only part time and the rest of the time from home, and is tested twice a week.
For myself, shopping only once a week, mask on, snow shoeing, and enjoying a new diet plan and the new recipes that come with it. Lost 8 pounds so far! And dreaming of Ireland...Carol in VT
I really appreciate being able to get away. I walk with a friend once or twice a week but that is the extent of my socialization!
Take care Lorrie...your retirement is not far off, and you must be getting excited.
Australia has done a great job protecting its citizens.
Having a designated quarantine hotel is a really progressive idea!
Stay safe Rosie
Good to hear that your state is safe. The feathers are tucked into the door trim outside the cottage...I think last summer the festive addition to the gate were removed but we will keep an eye on it.
Take care Patricia
I just heard that the new government leaders were sworn in!
Hopefully it will be a peaceful transition and that they implement positive change.
Ireland sounds like a wonderful holiday!
Congratulations on the weight loss...we feel so much healthier when we get out for some fresh air and exercise. Eating a balanced diet is how we practise self care and take charge of our health.
Take care Carol
