Something new, a milestone birthday...and cheerful pops of colour.

Good news!
We have daffodils blooming in The Humble Bungalow Garden.
These cheerful yellow flowers elevate our flagging spirits
as we crave colour on these dreary rainy days.

It may come as a surprise to you but until recently I did not own
a totally waterproof coat...
I relied on water resistant coats and jackets and always carried an umbrella.

Perhaps a little bit strange
as we live on the WET coast!

Years ago,
when the children were young,
I wore a waterproof Gortex coat
it was bright red and I loved the bright colour on the rainy days.

I discovered a wonderful wee shop on Government Street
and
found a 100% waterproof coat perfect for our rainy days.

 Breathable
Coat

I plan to wear some of my bright coloured scarves with this coat.

This wee orchid was a gift from dear friends when mom passed away...

Tomorrow March 3rd will be the anniversary of my mom's demise.
(it will also be my 65th birthday)

For these past few years I find my emotions are mixed on March 3rd...

I don't feel like I am 65, although I know that I am no longer a "Spring Chicken"
I am Grateful to be alive.

I am 3/4 the way through this book and am really enjoying it.
Have you read it?

Did you read her previous book The Post Mistress?

Yellow Hellebore

Sunshine filtering through the door in our front hall...
love the warmth and sunlight so much.
Simple Joys.

Hope that your week is off to a great start and that you are finding pops of cheerful colour in your daily round.

Happy milestone birthday! It is a privilege to be healthy and alive, and here's hoping that you and your significant others live a long and happy life.
I am sorry for your mother's passing; no matter what age you are, it is always a shattering loss. I wonder if I could ask your readers (and perhaps you if you feel like it) how they memorialize their parents. In our family, births are commemorated with the planting of a tree or shrub, and deaths are commemorated with donations to a cause that was dear to the departed.

Happy Birthday, Leslie. I've no doubt it's hard to feel "happy" when it's also the day you lost your mom. My husband will be 65 this year as well - next month. Where did the time go? Sending a hug.

Happy Birthday, Leslie! Your coat will be great in our weather. I don't really have anything waterproof and stylish. Scarves will be the perfect addition. Celebrate you as you remember your mom.

Happy Birthday! Be gentle with yourself on a day with such mixed remembrances—but be sure to celebrate as well.

Happy Birthday to you, and I hope lots of yellow daffodils come your way. They are the most cheerful plant, and I love them. It is sad it coincides with your mother's anniversary, but I wish you a very sweet day. It is raining every time we pass through BC - I think your new raincoat is very smart and will gets lots of wear!

Happy birthday! You are 65 years wise now.

My mom passed away 11 years ago and still not a day goes by that I don't think of her (and my Dad too (10 years). and my brother (1.5 years). But time has tempered the acute pain, and now I think of them with gratitude that I grew up in a loving family and had such strong connections, as that is truly a gift -- one which is clear that you shared as well.

Love the raincoat! The A-line swing style is my favorite, so comfortable for walking and so stylish and flattering. As my Mom used to always say, wear it in good health.

Have a wonderful and peaceful 65th birthday. It’s a special day for me because it is also my oldest son’s 46th.

I don't post often, but I do appreciate your chic and minimal esthetic in both fashion and design. I always look forward to your posts.

This is a blessed time of life. We can put aside those things that really are meaningless and enjoy the best. Have a wonderful year.

When my father died we received a hydrangea which we planted out front of our bungalow. With mom I was so saddened and busy dealing with her estate and condo sale that I didn’t plant anything...I have some of her favourite things and use them often.

Jeannine it is a day of mixed up emotions...will enjoy my day with some long time dear friends.
Hard to believe we are getting up there in age but am grateful for each day.

Scarves are like the icing on the cake!!
I might wear a piece of my mom’s jewelry in her honour today.

We are fortunate to have such great family memories. It’s impossible not to miss them, but as you say time is helping temper that ache.
As a gal with added curves I like a swingy silhouette!
My mom absolutely loved clothes! She shopped regularly and always looks fashionable.

Happy 65th Birthday, Leslie!! Imagine you now get a bigger cheque and you can ride the Ferry for free, Tuesday to Thursday ow!!
Mixed emotions are totally understandable today though, especially when your Mother passed on your birthday!! Keep your eyes on those beautiful yellow daffodils. 💞

I missed this yesterday, so I hope you had a very Happy Birthday yesterday, although I do understand your mixed emotions. Getting older does feel like a privilege in some ways, doesn't it. I lost my mother very young, nearly 60 years ago, and always check my age against the age she was when she died.
Now that your 'comments' have changed, I've noticed that I've come up as the veg artist. Previously known as Linda from West Wales!

Thank you for your birthday wishes Sonya.
I am excited about those free ferry rides! I had a lovely day yesterday...I didn’t put my apron on once or cook a meal and received some cards and gorgeous flowers. I wore mom’s ring all day and toasted her at dinner.

Thank you Linda I am fortunate to be celebrating this milestone birthday and am very grateful to be alive. Several good friends have passed away and it does make me more aware of how precious life on earth can be...
Safari has added some filters to their search engine which makes commenting on my blog impossible. Google seems to be the one that works I have not changed anything and am disappointed that it has inconvenienced followers but it’s beyond my control.

Happy belated birthday to you! We are lucky to be alive! 65 for you and 63 in November for me...yay us! Except for the fleeting number of years left in my life, I'm digging my sixties...so much living, learning, loving, reading, traveling, eating, gardening, dreaming left to do. You honor your dear mom by living your life as you do!

You sound like you are really enjoying the freedom to explore new things, travel adventures and are embracing these with passion! It is lovely to be able to appreciate our older years. I am so grateful to be able to savour the good things in life.
