Swimsuit shopping...

My need for a new swimsuit came as a wee bit of a shock to me...

I was in the change room at the local pool and was putting on my old swimsuit and working up a sweat trying to pull it up! I had to wriggle and ease the spandex up inch by inch and when I was finished I realized that I could hardly breathe!

What happened?

It must have shrunk!
(Wrong)

So I HAD to go swimsuit shopping...
not my favourite thing to do, but we are off to the cottage,
and they have two lovely pools and I like to swim laps,
so needs must!

Do you believe in miracles?

This is what a size 14 swimsuit looks like on the hanger...

I am not proud of the fact that I have gone up a size.
The weight gain is all in my midsection where I once had a waist!

Simon Chang swimsuit.
This one is also a size 14 but it looks smaller because it is black.
I like the mesh detail at the top and at the leg holes.

I purchased two swimsuits because I don't like putting a wet bathing suit on and I may be swimming a couple of times each day.

I walk everyday and some days I walk farther than others...
I do watch what I eat but I could always cut down on the carbs.
My husband loves pasta so I make it once a week and I adore potatoes.

My thyroid is sluggish
(but that's no excuse)

I have taken medication for hypothyroidism since I gave birth
to our daughter 40 years ago.

Loving life and feeling gratitude is part of my daily routine.
Every day is a gift and it never fails to offer up something of beauty.

So in the whole scheme of things
is a size larger worth getting all bent out of shape over?

I am doing what I can to stay active and healthy.

Thank you for popping by and reading The Humble Bungalow Blog today.

It's sunny here at the cottage and we plan to go swimming today.
With two suits to choose from I have to make a decision which one to wear...

I hope you are having a great weekend.

Until next time

Those look very cute. I haven't worn a swimsuit since my kid was in baby swimming. I wear swim shorts. When outside, I wear them with a long-sleeved, high-necked ultra-UV-blocking rash guard. The overall effect is tough beach volleyball player, which is OK with me. My shorts have pockets! They don't have to be tugged down! No wet one-piece to wrestle in the bathroom. I wear a bikini top under the rash guard, like a bra, not that I need support.
I have a "tankini" with a tennis-skirt thingy on the bottom. I hate it. Much prefer my shorts. I have never been thin and am less svelte than some years ago, but I'm still in the normal/healthy range on the BMI charts. Still, I have no desire to let it all hang out. I much appreciate the sporty shorts option, which covers without looking like hiding.

Oh dear. I feel your pain on the whole swimsuit shopping experience. And the thickening that seems to be happening overnight. Yes, I know, we're not spring chickens - but still. I like your suit choices - very nice. I do agree - attitude is everything (I often need an attitude adjustment, I'm afraid) and gratitude makes such a difference. Thanks for sharing so honestly.

Nice choices. Feeling good and getting some exercise is what matters most, in my opinion. You always look fashionable and well put together. Living a full and happy life, as you do, counts for everything. Susan

I like both your swimsuit choices very much, and appreciate your candour, even though I had to laugh at your sense of humour. I can relate. I am still struggling with my post menopausal shape. Though I haven't gained weight recently, I feel like I have no waist. I hear and read that it is normal but that doesn't mean I have to like it. I am sure with all that walking and swimming you will feel fit in no time! Enjoy your stay at the cottage. The weather has turned warm and lovely.

I think they are both attractive, but I always love a black suit.

You are on a very healthy fitness program so don't be too unhappy with yourself, wellness is the most important factor and this little bit of weight you will shortly loose.

I have two Miracle Suits which do not make me look svelte but they cover me in a discreet way. I'm a couple years older than you and the midsection just keeps growing. I could cut out wine and carbs to take off a few inches but I fear that would be a temporary solution. Saturday night, I attended a 70th birthday for a woman who had stem cell donation and is a cancer survivor. It puts things in perspective. Walking and swimming are healthy activities at this age and perhaps a few rolls around the middle (as much as I don't like to see them) are the natural consequences of aging, reading a lot, and a bit of bon vivance. Enjoy the pools!

I like the two suits. We shouldn’t be so hard on ourselves. Staying active and eating well go a long way. Losing waistlines seems to be part of the package as we age.

I love your blog And appreciate the frank discussion of issues of interest.

Quite seriously, I have read that i) it's natural to thicken around the middle as we age, and ii) it is better to be a little overweight than under in later years. Any illness can really take it out of us, and we need a little in reserve! Being fit enough to do what we enjoy is far more important.

Your swimming attire sounds very sporty...I like that idea.
I must check on the BMI and see where I am...I have a hunch that I am over into the no good zone!
I swam some laps this weekend and enjoyed the new suits.
Your blog posts are so beautiful....love the scenic area where you live.

Attitude adjustment...yes as you say, our spring chicken days are far behind us!

Exercise is so important for our heart and bone health...you know what they say "use it or lose it!"

I know exactly what you mean...I am there too and I blame it on menopause. I try hard not to focus on the negative and stay active and keep moving.
It was a gorgeous sunny day yesterday...perfect for swimming in the pool which we did.
Home bound today to get ready for the renovation of our bedroom.
Hope you have a lovely week.

Black is so forgiving! Wellness is key isn't it?
I try hard to look on the bright side of things...and its odd that the suits are size 14 and yet I have two pairs of NYDJ several years old in size 8 that fit? I suppose its vanity sizing at work here!

Coverage is key for a swimsuit! The Miracle suits are designed to flatter our curves and offer some camouflage which I like!!
We have a few friends who are dealing with serious health issues right now and so its does help to put things in perspective.
The pools were lovely and I plan to keep walking and swimming for as long as I am able...enjoy your week Madame.

Hi Jill,
Thank you for your comment...it seems that many of us are going through the same stage of life and have similar issues to deal with which makes it easier to be honest and to share our experiences together.

Fitness is important for our heart and bone health...I have never been a runner so walking and swimming are my best options. I tried working out with kettle bells but they didn't really seem to make a difference.
I read that estrogen is stored in fat cells and they are there to protect our hearts after we go through menopause...
