Pretty Pinks...

May is such a beautiful month here in Victoria.

Our garden is putting on a lovely show...
The roses are not yet in flower but we have lily of the valley, clematis, hellebores, geraniums, white anemones, irises, tulips, and many more.

I captured this rhododendron on my walk.
A fly photo bombed my shot!
Its iridescent wings look quite like a jewel.

A pale pink soft rhododendron...
we don't have enough room for rhodos
roses take priority.

We worked in the garden on Saturday and some of Sunday.
Mr. HB planted tomatoes and cucumbers in the greenhouse.
Radish seeds will be sown soon.

Russell Nursery
was hosting a
a pop up Vintage Fair.

I did not find any "rusty vintage items" for the garden
but I did find a new apron!

Made locally
I can use it both in the garden and kitchen.
The pockets are handy too!

Love the fuchsia fish !

My hands take such a beating working in the home and garden
despite rich creams and cuticle balms
mine rarely look cared for...

GRRRRR!

I've been experiencing a breakout of rosacea.
this condition surfaced in my early 30's.
The dermatologist started me on a round of antibiotics and a topical cream.
We got it under control but since then over several decades
more outbreaks crop up.

There is no "cure" for rosacea.

Redness control skincare products
(Avene)
using a gentle
 touch
avoiding the sun
and
temperature extremes are also essential.

A cycle of IPL laser treatments
help to manage the condition.

I have had one IPL treatment and will need a few more...
the flushing, redness and bumps are difficult to camouflage.
It is frustrating and I do try to keep calm.

It's sunny outside this morning and the birds are chirping.

My to do list today:

 ~ wash the slipcovers ~

~ hand water pots and plants in the garden ~

~ write and publish a blog post ~

~ deep clean the sink ~

~ wash the sheets ~

~ walk ~

Love this soft almond scented milk concentrate...
I use this after my shower every morning.

Well I must stop procrastinating and get busy with my to do list...
(you may have noticed that I started the "do list" with my favourite activity)

Thank you for stopping by The Humble Bungalow Blog.

Hope your week is off to a fabulous start...

Hope you got that to do list ticked off. Beautiful flowers! And I love your funny pictures. I can only imagine your frustration - only based on things that frustrate me as I don't have rosacea issues. I hope your treatments start helping.

I just visited Van Dusen Gardens today. It was so warm that we were walking with bare arms. I was tempted to buy a friend an apron in a Mason jar but I resisted. My friend and I bought memberships as we're planning to visit frequently during the summer. I got out my art materials and I'd love to do a course in botanical drawing. I've always wanted to be the Edwardian Lady or Beatrix Potter. We had lunch at Shaughnessy, my grandma's and my mum's favourite place. You would enjoy reading The Gown by Jennifer Robson. I binge read on Saturday. I play a game with myself. I read a chapter and then I take an activity break and do a household task It's really quite productive. My mum has rosacea on her face and and I can empathize with you. I use the Avene for sensitive skin products and CC cream myself to avoid redness. Good luck with the treatments.

I will have another IPL laser treatment this week. They are fairly pricey but it’s the only procedure that works for me. I go to a medical “spa” where there are two doctors on staff and the laser operators are registered nurses.
The weather here is warm and I got everything on my list done and more...tomorrow I will work in the garden. Always lots to do out there!!
Hope you are well and enjoying these early May days.

Oh it was a wonderful day! Your garden stroll at Van Duden must have been a delight and lunch in Shaugnessy would be a real treat!
A friend and I have Butchart Garden annual memberships too and we try to visit every month and have tea or lunch.
Avene make some fabulous products.

I did a long walk through High Park this morning - hoped the cherry blossoms had started to bloom but it will be another couple of days so I hope to go back Friday morning.
I too have rosacea and while I can manage the facial breakouts I was starting to have problems with my eyes. I thought I was getting "pink eye" and couldn't understand how - turns out it was ocular rosacea. I am on a daily anti-biotic and use an antibiotic cream around my eyes each night - it does help but the antibiotics make me even more sun sensitive so I have to be very careful.
Enjoy all the beautiful flowers.

Margie I am sorry that your eyes have been affected....
have had red eyes too and wonder if mine are involved.
How did you get the diagnosis?
The Rosacea syndrome is very vague and I wonder if they will ever figure it out.
Hope you get results from the medications.

Sorry about your outbreak of Roscea I know that can be difficult to deal with.

I love your pretty new apron, I simple must start wearing them, although the ones I have a basic black and white. Ones like yours would make doing chores much more fun!

The outbreak of rosacea does not sound pleasant. I hope the treatments do the trick for you. I use that same Almond cream from L'Occitane after my shower, too. I love the scent and the softness it's given my skin.
Pinks are in bloom! Hooray for flowers!

I know there will be no miraces just science based results! I have beeen here before and will need to be patient...walks and the floral beauty that surrounds us soothe the soul.
Hope that you are well Dottoressa.

I got in the habit of wearing a inen apron in the garden a few years ago...sunscreen, a sunhat and my secateurs are standard when I work in the garden...I do get dirty when I immerse myself in an outdoor project!
I think you can relate! We do love our gardens...

Rosacea is not painful but it is unsightly...its not as obvious as melasma but it is a challenge to "hide" the bumps and redness. I have done a lot of research on it and they doctors and scientists cannot figure out what causes it but they have identified "triggers." Treatments are pretty effective but take time and money.

I made your chicken thigh recipe last night and it is a "keeper!" so amazing and the flavour was absolutely delicious!!! Thak you for sharing it!

Sent to one ophthalmologist who then sent me to another who was doing a study related to rosacea. This was after I'd been to a dermatologist so it took both of them for a confirmation of the problem.
Dermatologist prescribed a daily antibiotic that is only used for issues such as rosacea or acne. The opthamologists prescribed erythromycin cream that I rub around the edge of my eyelashes into my eyes nightly - plus I use mostly baby shampoo which can also gently wash around the eyelashes to keep everything extra clean. I'm also to use Tea Tree Oil wipes as an extra cleanse for the skin - but I don't use this everyday as it dries out my skin too much. A long process - but since I've been using the meds the skin has been mostly under control and my eyes have been ok - no new outbreaks - so far.
Check out the Mayo Clinic website for ocular rosacea and see if the symptoms ring a bell.
I also use eye drops called "Hi Lo" - they aren't under prescription but do have to be asked for at the pharmacy counter - they help to keep your eyes moisturized. Be sure to check it out as it can be nasty and affect your vision.

I am glad that you are on top of the eye issues. My eyes are not involved. I went for a laser treatment yesterday and this morning my face is red and swollen. The nurse technician is pleased with the results so far but thinks I may need another appointment. She also prescribed a medical grade serum which has anti inflammatory properties and will strengthen the blood vessels and capillaries. I hope to see results soon.
She said that rosacea has s genetic component and that it runs in families. Have you got any family members with rosacea?

Commiserating with you over the Rosecea. Antibiotics knocked it down in the past, but wrecked my gut health. 6 months ago a new dermatologist prescribed topical Ivermectin cream 1% (Rosiver) that I apply once per day before I go to bed. Results are all I could hope for. Otherwise I wash and moisturize with CereVe products and use 50 SPF mineral based sunblock.

Spring is slow coming to Ontario.

Your experience with the antibiotics confirms my reluctance to use them. Sounds like you are managing to keep your flare ups at bay with your gentle cleanser, moisturizer and medical cream at night and I too use sunscreen all year round.

So sorry about the Rosecea. I'm sure I have some. I do have a lot of pink in my face. But love your new sun dress and beautiful flowers. You always sound so calm and cool. Not a wild woman who has to deal with Rosecea.
