Smitten by a scarf...and a spring cleanse.

Have you ever seen something beautiful in a shop that caught your fancy?

Something that was a tad expensive so you left it behind...

Yet something so pretty that you started dreaming about it?

I had this exact thing happen to me.

My friend H and I walk at Butchart Gardens as we have annual memberships. We plan a walk once a month and have tea or lunch when we are there.

One benefit of having an annual membership are the discounts available in the gift, coffee shop and restaurants.

The item that I had been lusting after was a scarf
this beauty might possibly be going home with me...

I just had to make sure that I still felt the same passion
upon seeing it a second time.

I plan to wear this a lot this Spring and it will come to Europe with me.
I have a khaki Eileen Fisher jacket that it will pair well with and because it is so soft it will be cozy on the plane.

Our weather has been amazing this past weekend
it continues to be warm and sunny.

Perfect weather for walking and beach combing.

Plans are in the works for eating more mindfully after the winter.

A Spring cleanse...
more fresh veggies and fruits.

Weight watching has been a battle that I have not won this past year.

Interrupted sleep patterns,
Emotional eating and stress have all been factors.

My goal is to start back slowly
by setting attainable goals of 5 pounds at a time.

With the sunshine and light,
warmer weather

walking longer will be easier.

Cutting out "comfort foods"
(those dishes that I crave during the winter!)

Fresh veggies are starting to become available at the local Farmer's Markets.

It's salad season again!

Opting for meals with fish and lean protein and drinking lots of water...
will write down my point count as that really helps me be more mindful
of what and how much I am eating.

Must close for now and get outside for my walk!
Until next time...

Thank you for stopping by The Humble Bungalow Blog.

Your scarf is very pretty. I would lust after it as well. I've done well with my food intake in Oaxaca so I need to keep away from the carbs when I am home. More walking is the answer as well. Today I used the Don't Blow It Bumble and Bumble product and we have twin hair.

glad you bought the scarf. Green is my favorite color. That scarf would make me happy every time I put it on.

Your scarf is lovely. I know exactly what you mean about more fruits and vegetables, more water, more walking, more mindful eating. That is my goal as well. Be well.

The Butchart Gardens gift shop has several different scarves named after their different garden areas...all in different colour schemes but this was the one that caught my eye and it just happens that green is my favourite colour!

It will be worn a LOT! I like the weight of it and the fact that it is super soft.

Green is mine too! I know this scarf was worth waiting for...I have been looking at many others but none made me feel so smitten as this one did...

We need goals don't we?
Something reasonable to aspire to...and they help to keep us focused.

I love your scarf. It's such a sweet reminder to stay pretty when you have pretty things. I hear you on the long, dark winter. I live in Vancouver just across the strait from you and it's been a challenge to eat "pretty" this winter. In this glorious weather (although now it's raining today) it's much easier to be the salad and vegetable freak I'd love to be. Thanks for your always inspirational writings. I don't often comment but I always read. XO .

Thank you Adrienne...I love the array of colours...feels like Spring even in the rian when wearing it!

Now I wonder how many you have?
I think I have about 2 dozen.

Why is it that we crave comfort food during the winter?
Perhaps we are preprogrammed to eat differently with each season?
It's curious because soups and hearty stews are the major players in my winter meals...and occasionally pasta as my husband LOVES it so much.

Hi Karen, I am glad that you left your comment and appreciate the points that you made.
Winter is definitiely a challenging time for us to eat "pretty" with all the grey rainy days! It is raining on and off here too. I am enjoying a colourful array of fruit with a dollop of cottage cheese for my breakfast and plan a veggie plate for lunch with a hard boiled egg...dinner might be fresh halibut with a large serving of stemed veggies. I am trying to stick to healthier new habits.

Once you start walking it is an easy habit to add to your day...are you OK to walk with your medical condition? You might need to ask your doctors.
if I were to give you advice , which I am obviously doing...
I suggest you start with a gentle 15 minutes a day and increase it by 5 minutes each week until you are at 50 or 60 minutes a day...it is much easier if you walk with a partner...chatting makes the time seem to go faster and it is social too.

There are beautiful things in the gift shop there, and that scarf is really lovely. You'll be so chic in Europe! I'm enjoying focusing on eating differently now that spring has popped here - salads are so appealing just now.

What a gorgeous scarf, and a real Pop of Colour! Good luck with the diet - I put on weight during our Summer heat, as walking is so difficult and the heat so intense one loses motivation. Now with a few Autumn breezes starting to arrive, I am doing the same as you: counting points, lots of veg and fruit, watch the carbs, walking.. And then we pop off to France too :)

I can totally relate to spotting a beautiful scarf that captures you. The second time look is a good check.
I have a membership at the Vancouver Art Gallery and their buyer has a great eye - always tempting!
And agree about the winter comfort food, sometimes I wonder just how much comfort I need.....hahaha
Thanks for posting Suz from Vancouver

It has taken me awhile to be "ready" to travel again. Life can throw us some curve balls that sideline us.
You have been in my thoughts of late Lisa....I hope that you are finding some bright spots in your daily round.

I agree Lorrie...the bone china teapots, mugs and teacups are sooooo beautiful and they make great gifts or souvenirs.
The buyer for the gift shop really has a keen eye for exquisite items, which makes it so tempting each time I visit!
Enjoy the weather and Spring flowers.

Good luck with your regime...

Such a beautiful scarf. My weight loss ground to a halt, and my weight increased a bit. Trying to find reasons is important, I feel. For me, it has been living with someone who eats more than me, and somehow it has rubbed off. Weird.
