Let's get dressed!

Do you enjoy a fresh salad all year round?

We regularly have salads with our dinner
I opt for leftover salads for many of my weekday lunches.

I love a light dressing made with a good quality olive oil and a flavoured balsamic vinegar.

The Tuscan Herb olive oil has a peppery taste
The Fattoria di Sommaia has a distinctive smooth flavour.

Flavoured balsamic vinegars create a superb salad dressing.

You can marinate chicken in these oils and vinegars
dress and coat veggies before roasting in the oven
dip focaccia bread in a blend of these two delicious ingredients.

Oil and vinegar
a happy marriage of flavours.

I also have a jam dressing that I make on the boat.

You need an empty jam jar...
Bonne Maman works for me.

3 tablespoons of jam
1/3 cup vinegar
1/4 tsp each of salt and pepper
1 cup of good quality olive oil

Shake to mix
Refrigerate dressing and shake again before serving.

I've been remiss in not posting regularly on the blog...
life has been busy!

I've been enjoying visits with the grandchildren,
and working in the garden.

We are embarking on a renovation too which is rather daunting...
our home will become a worksite.

Things will need to be packed up...
we will be sleeping in the guest room
as we have a crew here to remodel our master bedroom.

The electrical service upgrade is slated for tomorrow...
no power all day
I will need to go out for tea and coffee!

Thank you for stopping by The Humble Bungalow Blog.

How exciting to have your master suite renovated. I do look forward to seeing the end results. Good luck with managing with the tradesmen about, which can be a bit stressful. I have written out your jam dressing recipe: it looks interesting, and I have not come across this idea before. Thank you :)

I've been making salad dressing recently with white balsamic vinegar, and also back to Champagne vinegar. Also sometimes olive oil and lemon. And like you, I use it on vegetables, fish, etc. before roasting as well. Excited to hear about your master bedroom renovation but I know it can be a pain to be going through it...but out the other side will be great.

I guess I'm weird, but I like just vinegar or lemon juice on my salads. I've never really understood the need for oil.

It would be wonderful to have a master suite! Our bedroom is very small...about 9X10. We are having a custom built in closet with drawers installed and board and batton on the walls. All white! Cannot wait!!!

The reno will probably take 5-6 weeks. It will be disruptive but so worth it. I will need to be very patient...not one of my strengths :-((
Will show a few pictures on the blog as we progress.

I don’t think it’s weird at all! You know what you like and that’s great.

Speaking of construction sites, what ever became of the new house that was going up beside you? Is it finished? Do you like it? How does it impact.....or frame your garden?

A remodel. How exciting. Knowing you I am sure that every detail has been planned out and it will be wonderful. Your jam dressing sounds delicious, I am definitely going to try it, Thank you.

I am excited for you, for your reno! I can't wait to see the result. As I sit here, half the carpets have just been ripped out of our place for new flooring going in, a very realistic wood-look vinyl. Everything that sits on the floor has to be moved, of course, so it is challenging. We did our kitchen last fall. This is the very last part of our reno. Good luck with everything! Violet.

Thanks for the tip about using jam in dressing. I will try that! Just finished a week of renovations and I find it disrupting too, even though I am so grateful for the lovely result . Take care and have peace in the garden.

I am always looking for new dressings. I will try the jam dressing. It sounds delicious. Your bedroom sounds like it will be lovely when it is finished. We have been wrapped in blue netting
for the last 6 weeks. The scaffolding is up but no work is being done. All of the siding is being replaced on our building but the anticipated finish date is in the fall. No balcony for us this summer. I'm not patient with noise or confusion so I'll be at the garden or the pool a lot. Enjoy the weekend!

THe two houses have been built and are in the process of being landscaped. The house muffles a lot of the road noise from the busier street where the buses run.
I quite like the house and the people are even better!!!

How sweet of you to comment Patricia!
Taking photographs is quite a lot of fun for me...its so quick and easy with the IPhone.
Plan to work on another blog post tomorrow...

I am eager to get the messy stuff over with as I know it will be a dusty project! The fun part is adding some newer linens and pillows and perhaps some artwork.
Let me know what you think of the jam dressing.

I will have to dedicate some time to work on the before during and after construction posts!! Hope that your reno is going smoothly...its always a dusruption when we embark on these projects. The weather is great too which makes a project so much easier...no wet muddy boots tramping through the house!!

Oh how exciting! Hope you enjoy the end results...
April gardens look so pretty with all the bulbs up and putting on a colourful show...and so many rhodos, lilacs and azaleas too...even the birds are happy and their beautiful melodies make working outside so much more enjoyable.
Hope your garden is a respite for you too :-))
