Rainy Day Rhythm...

Cheap and cheerful
chrysanthemums
perk me up on a grey rainy day...

The power of flowers can elevate any decor...

a simple jam jar with daisies

a Baccarat crystal vase with roses

a single bloom in a flask

an orchid in a blue and white porcelain planter

depending on your budget

you can get as creative as you like when it comes to floral arrangements.

Vintage Verlys glass satin dish bowl
etched simply with pine cones
sits empty
beside the window
catching the light

The grandchildren made this colourful Easter Wreath at Michael's.

We were meant to go to the workshop together but I had Vertigo and had to cancel...
it sounds like they had lots of fun.

Our sunsets have been quite stunning
this week at Quarter Deck Cottage.

I love how sculptural the arbutus trees look set against the yellow skies.

One needn't go far to find beauty
it is outside just beyond the front door...
all you have to do is open your eyes and look around.

It may surprise you to find that there are ordinary things
which when studied
on close inspection
look like works of art.

I never come home from a walk without seeing something quite lovely.

Perhaps that is why I love to walk so much...
not only do I feel restored and re-energized
there are snippets of Nature's handiwork at every turn.

I make it my goal to seek out the delights that Nature has provided...

A juicy red rose hip still clinging to the vine...

Queen Anne's Lace seed head boldly standing tall against the blue sky.

A reclaimed lifeboat
re purposed as a planter at the end of the road.

The Riddle Family plant this boat with seasonal offerings...
The sign says
"The Point...Of it All!"

A scarecrow and mums were on display for Fall
daffodils and tulips for Spring
I am already curious what they will plant for Summer.

The rains have arrived after several sunny days so it's a day of domestic chores...
laundry and tidying.

A pot of tea now waits
I will return to my books and knitting
after I hit the publish button on this post.

I would really like to make some of the dishclothes; I like to have a needlework project to work on at night. You said the size of the needles but what ply yarn do you use...in the photo it looks to be single ply.

Thank you! And have a lovely Easter weekend.

Thanks for this lovely and thought provoking post - we just need eyes to see, don't we? I like that dishcloth pattern as well and have made many. I am afraid of white, though. Do you find white to actually be a good thing and that it comes clean?

I have used Bernat 100% cotton Handicrafter yarn...the cloths must be made from cotton or they do not do the job! I just read the label and there is not much information about the weight of the yarn...4X4 inch square = 20 stitches and 26 rows....I hope that helps. The Bernat cotton is available in a wide variety of shades amd mixed colours but I prefer the cream and white colours as they "feel" more luxurious to me!
Happy Easter Adrienne!

Hope that you will have a lovely weekend.

Jeaninne...I love the purity of white and cream cloths...
they feel very luxe and it is things like clean cloths that contribute to my every day joys when doing dishes. I have so many that they never really get grubby....having said that I would not be tempted to wipe a blackened pan with them without scraping off the black bits first! The white can also be bleached if needed.

Happy Easter!

Gorgeous Leslie! Your pictures are stunning. I have lots of left over cotton yarn and should make some of these! They’d be a great project to leave in our trailer for when we go camping. Have a lovely Easter weekend.

I love your photos. Walking is good for the soul as well as the body. I came upon a field of wild yellow and purple irises and took a photo but somehow deleted it. Now I have an excuse to go for a walk in that direction again.

Being in nature is so wonderfully therapeutic.
You probably have already heard this - the Japanese have studied an aspect of natures healing ; "shinrin yoku," which translates to "forest bathing".
Here is a link to some articles for those who want to know more.

Thank you for another lovely post

Thank you. If I can't find it locally I am sure I can get the yarn online. I appreciate your help. And, a lovely Easter weekend to you also.

Beautiful post as always Leslie! Your blog is soothing for me. I always read your posts over a few times; you write very well and your photos are gorgeous!
I am still learning to slow down, look out for the ”small” things in my life and to cherish them to the best. Have a lovely weekend.
Greetings Maria x

It's a great idea to use unusual planters...it adds interest and a bit of whimsy to the garden....I'd love to see more of your garden.

The dishcloths are quick to knit and don't take up much room so perfect for your trailer....hope that you are settled into your new place and relaxing after the move.
Happy Easter!

Oh dear...too bad about the photo but as you say...an excuse to return to that same spot and reshoot the picture.

Hello Pat...hopefully you will enjoy the pattern if you do knit one...I can almost knit them in my sleep now!

I suppose we need goals to motivate us when we are walking...especially if we are alone, which I am a greater percentage of the time now that my regular walking partner has some serious health issues.
Hope your weekend is a fun one!

Thank you Suz...I have heard of shinrin yoku...our daughter and her husband get out in Nature on the weekends and go hiking and exploring and she mentioned this to me.

Hi Maria,
Slowing down is not always easy especially if you have a vibrant career, a young family and numerous responsibilites, but it is important to try...at least for a few minutes every day.

It's lovely seeing the spring flowers isn't it. I noticed our new baby pear tree survived the winter and has buds.
