the pattern is easy to follow and they knit up quite quickly.

Bernats cotton comes in a very large skein, at just a tad under $10 at Walmart.
I am not normally a Walmart shopper but they have such great prices on this cotton that I make a special trip to the store and stock up. It comes in a variety of variegated of colours, I chose this green blend and I plan to return to buy the black, white and grey blend as well as the red pink and cream colour blend.
I took pictures of the pattern and I think you will be able to enlarge them.

Joan is an elderly woman in our knitting group and she has shared her pattern countless times so please do not worry that I am posting something illegally.
I have one more mitt to knit.
These mitts are a great Hostess gift and I like to add a few "granny style" dishcloths and some nice dish soap. One skein makes two pairs of mitts and many many dishcloths so these are a budget friendly gift.

Oh, I am so glad that you posted this. I love to knit, but have not had a lot of instruction. Nor do I have anyone to mentor me. So all that I knit are scarves and you can only do so many of those. I am actually working on one now. It has been a few years since I started a project and simply wanted to get back into it again. I will definitely try these oven mitts which are adorable and functional!
Thanks for the pattern, Leslie. I will make these. Just one question - have you tried takIng hot things from the oven? Any problem with burned fingers. Can you tell I'm a scaredy cat?!
Oh I hope you find the pattern easy to follow Kristien. I loved making these and have made 2 pairs so far and plan to make a pair for myself in the red blended cotton yarn.

Seriously, they are great for taking things out of the oven...I have tested them on a cookie sheet and a casserole dish. Because the mitts are doubled there is protection from the high heat.
Not being a knitter, I can't make these for myself and they are really pretty. What great yarn that is, and as you say, a lovely and budget priced gift to make.

I've never done any knitting but could also use something to keep my hands from baking! Haha these are very cute! Job well done. I have developed an interest in loom weaving though. But I'm hesitant to take on another very involved hobby!
Love these - so cozy and fun looking. I'm knitting an afghan with hugely oversized yarn and needles. Fun, but not portable!

These look practical and they must justify many a Netflix hour ;-) (or at least that's my way to feel productive while bingeing on my latest series). I've never got into the Oven Mitts or even potholder habit, relying on a folded dishtowel, a habit I guess I picked up from my dad.. (and yes, that does result in occasional scorch marks on some too-pretty fabric!)
These are brilliant. My mom used to knit and I still have some she made. I can't knit for toffee and also don't have the patience to learn, but I love seeing projects which my knitting friends took on.
Perhaps you know someone who is a knitter and could knit them up for you?

It is nice to have a project like these granny dishcloths because they are so easy one actually CAN watch TV while knitting...no real counting or pattern with them.

Knitting is rather like meditation for me so I like it in the winter when I am not outside playing in my garden!
Those are so perfect. I used to always have a project going until my arthritis got bad. Since I've taken a break from knitting, I simply can't sit still long enough to watch any shows on the TV! It's a bother because we just got Netflix and I'm anxious to watch the crown.
My Mom has arthritis in her hands and cannot knit either...living in a warmer climate must be better for your joint health than here in the damp PNW. Hope you are having fun in Palm Springs!

They are lovely! What about the pattern for the potholders (the square ones which look like they have a pattern on the bias) next to the mitts? At first, I thought they were just squares but the pattern is on a diagonal and there is a nice trimming around the edges. Thanks. The pattern for the dishcloths is printed inside the paper label of the Bernats yarn.
They knit up quickly too and are super simple to make.

The mitts are both the same...either can be left or right!
I sewed the first mitt then turned it inside out before inserting it inside the other one then I crocheted the edge at the cuff....you make 4 mitts all together to get the heat resistance factor...I hope that helps!
