Labour Day Long Weekend...

We have been out on our boat for the past few days enjoying a relaxing time with friends and family.

Port Browning on Pender Island

Many boats drop the hook and anchor in the bay.

We tie up at the marina as we do not have a generator on board.

There is a lovely beach just over this rocky outcropping.

Beach combing while walking along the shoreline is an activity that I quite enjoy.

I heard that Ellie passed away...
so sad
she fought long and hard battling ALS.
I hope that she is at rest and that her family will be supported and surrounded with friends and family to help them cope with their grief.

I read her blog and bought her book and hope that she will now be at peace.

I thought about writing a tribute to her here on the blog but after reading

I felt that they said it best.

I thought of Ellie on my beach walk.

Clam shells were scattered along the stretch of beach...

A driftwood shelter

Rock with a heart on it...

Heart shaped rocks...
might be a strange thing to collect but I do!

Mr. HB found the last two heart rocks.

Queen Anne's Lace and Chicory line the paths...
such a pretty combination Mother Nature has painted for us to enjoy.

I have been savouring every word of Louise Penny's newest mystery novel.
She is a brilliant writer and I absolutely LOVE her books.

I have several chapters left to finish and so I will close for now...
Hope that you have had a lovely weekend.

Im always so jealous of the vistas that are a part of your everyday life. So beautiful! And that clam shell has the most exquisite coloring inside! I've never seen that before. It is stunning just how many people Ellie touched.

You really capture the beauty and uniqueness of every place you visit.

Thanks for passing on the news about Ellie. I'll read the links now.

What a beautiful spot. I like how the beach you have captured is so different to many that we have here in Australia.

I've been having trouble logging in to comment from some computers I use so apologies or lack of comments. I have been reading faithfully and enjoying the calm your posts bring me.

Also, egging you in the healthy lifestyle changes stakes too. I've joined in too.

I love your photos of your beautiful surroundings. They are so calming as I'm sitting here at home, sipping my tea! The weather your way seems to be still pleasant and warm and the flowers still blooming. Here in Australia, spring has finally arrived and by the looks of things, most of my near neighbours have taken time off work today to garden! We've been exchanging plants and gardening tips for a few days now as we do each year about this time! Congratulations on your weight loss so far, I have to keep reducing my food portions - I'm still eating a bit too much, but always good and healthy foods. Now that the weather is getting warmer here, we're starting to indulge in vegetable smoothies a lot more. Have you included these in your program?

I wasn't a follower of Ellie's blog, but am touched by the loving tributes to her in the blogosphere. Your post is a lovely. I agree with your reader. You are blessed to live in the area you blog about. I look forward to all your posts.

I began walking yesterday since my weight loss needs a boost. Unfortunately, the scenery here is not nearly as inspiring as the Pacific Northwest. So I am using a Fitbit challenge that has me walking in Yellowstone and using steps to reach certain landmarks. I am then treated to the vistas at each goal. Looking forward to another day and another beautiful post.

Oh, I must read Louise Penney's new book after I finish The Irish Country Doctor. I had an interesting bookstore experience today. It sounds as though you had a lovely weekend.

So happy you had such a lovely long weekend boating. Love your heart rock collection too. Stephen Andrew and Heather and our Contessa wrote wonderful tributes to Ellie, so much sadness that we've lost her, I still can't believe it.
I have to get that book, thanks for the recommendation. Hope your week is going well so far, big day here with back to school, and first day of high school for our youngest rascal who you met! XOX

Boating is very serene. The water and landscape make for perfection. The world has changed. Ellie was larger than life in so many ways. She was unique. A life, very sadly, cut short. She touched so many lives. She will be greatly missed.

Ellie's blog was an eye opener for me in so many ways....her spirit, her bravery, the way she fought ALS and the way that she put herself out there for all to see...so vulnerable but so confident...

Oh thank you for popping by SAJ...you have been very much on my radar...hope you are doing well and in serious planning mode for Thanksgiving!
I hope that Ellie's spirit will keep us together for a long time.
She was a force...

Hi SSG,
I see your posts on IG and we are fortunate to live in such an abundance of beauty.
Mr. Hb and I were just watching a program on PBS on Sydney Harbour and it looks amazing!

I think we can create a beautiful and inspiring walk anywhere...your vistas must be amazing if they are in Yellowstone. I have seen plenty of pictures and I think the landscape is breath taking...

Back to school looks busy in your world! I saw pics and it can be so emotional...I remember meeting her...and YOU!
The Bengal Room at The Empress is no longer....the new owners have completely changed it....someone stole the bengal skin from the wall while the renovations were going on...it is still missing! a mystery...
Wasn't Ellie a great writer? Her voice still resonates with me...

Ellie had a huge effect on her audience...she touched so many and was quite frank and very blunt. I think that when she knew that she had a short time left that she could say whatever she wanted...and we respected her right to write what was on her mind. I hope that she did not suffer too much...it must have been very tedious for her with all the medical interventions that she had to endure.
My thoughts go out to her family...and young Gracie....far too young to lose her mother.

Very sad to hear about the Bengal Room, it was such an elegant spot for cocktails. Can't believe the thieving! We'll have to find a new spot to meet for drinks the next time I'm out west (likely in the spring for my brother's wedding :))
She was an amazing writer, and her point of view was so refreshing. I'm planning to re-read her blog from the start when I have some time. XO
