the mornings are cool and often we wake to a foggy mist.
The sun peeks out from the clouds and the waters glisten.
Simmering pot of comfort food...
soups, stews and roasts will be back on the menu.
Planter of mums is our nod to Fall in the Humble Bungalow Garden.
The roses are almost done...they have put on a fabulous show this season.
A new book and a cafe creme...
a wonderful way to start the day.
This book is based on Elizabeth Von Arnim's Enchanted April.
I loved the book and I have watched the film many many times...it is one of my all time favourites.
The scenery on my walk has been lovely...
and with the chill in the air I am contemplating buying a few new cozy things to wear.
Perhaps a new walking jacket...
The Lands' End catalogue arrived and they have some bright coloured down filled coats and jackets...my eyes keep hovering over the page with the grape coloured parka!
My weight has also been hovering...
a few ounces up and few down but still holding around 140.
I am going to post a new recipe that is WW friendly so please stay tuned.
We have house guests arriving soon and so I will be busy in hostess mode.
Be back in a few days...
How are you doing with your healthy eating?

Speaking of "enchanted", if there were an "enchanted" category of blog awards, yours would be on it. Just stunning photographs of the light over the water. Even one photo can brighten a whole day.
Speaking of healthy eating, I'm on it. This week I made a Butternut Ginger Soup with lots of onions and red lentils in it. I also made a rice salad with apples and raisins and spices. These days I can't wait until mealtime. Right now I have chicken, squash and beets warming up for lunch.
One tip I came across this morning was to prepare the proteins ahead for the week for quick snacks or meals. Grilled chicken breasts, hard boiled eggs, salmon and tuna salads, slices of ham or turkey. One cup of cooked lentils contains 18 gm of protein.
Since I am cooking for one, I prepared five chicken thighs, ate one, put two in the fridge and two in the freezer. Each one constitutes the protein portion of a meal for me.
I always look forward to your postings on food.
Enjoy your company.

I WISH there was a chill in the air in Texas! Wonderful photos and text as always.
Your garden looks lovely!. With the watering restrictions and heat, my yard is a sad shade of brown and not much blooming. Looking forward to some fall rain to green everything up again!
I look forward to a chill in the air which makes my daily walk so much more enjoyable. For the past few days here in the Northeast, we have experienced a return to the dog-days of summer. My walks have been a casualty of it. But it is temporary, and for us, the golden fall days are a gift. Winter sweeps in quickly and lasts an eternity.
I, too, love your pictures. The flowers, the bungalow and the landscape are so charming. Thank you. By the way, down 1.5 lbs, not much, but part way to a 5lb. goal by month's end.
We're sweltering in England. It's so difficult to sleep. I'm wearing more summer clothes then I did in July.
You've inspired me to join WW ... I joined online. I know it works and it's healthy.
I loved "Enchanted April" - both the book and the film! Must look for that new book.
I'm afraid that Toronto is still under a heat warning - 38C today but feeling even worse! But - hope is in sight and maybe Fall - looks like we will be down to between 18C to 22C by the middle of next week - Finally! Can't wait - and the only thing that I actual do need to buy is a Fall jacket - must check out Lands End.
Going back to tracking my calorie consumption - need to be stricter and I've been considering a new walking challenge for myself - now I hope to be able to start it next week once the cooler weather arrives - can't wait!
After some lovely late summer days the rain has returned to the North of England today. Luckily I had inside things to do. By late afternoon the rain stopped but my thoughts return to warming food and cosy clothes. Healthy eating and portion control are paramount.
Your photos are superb as usual.
Oh, such lovely photos! I've been buying jeans of late, nothing expensive, just some Per Una ones from Marks & Spencer, but they fit well, and that is the main thing, isn't it? So I've bought four, yes four, pairs: two indigo, two black. A coat might have to wait awhile!
So glad you've shown that book, I must check that out as I love The Enchanted April (both the book and the film ... keep meaning to watch the film again, which I have on DVD, it's so lovely.)

Fall is very much welcome after our 90 degree Summer with high humidity and drought conditions. Light weight fleece is wonderful for Fall and early Winter. I buy at LL Bean. My vibrant light blue and plum are on standby awaiting cooler days. Your ocean photo with the glistening sun is spectacular. So serene. Soups are a favorite for me too. When it is cooler I plan to buy a ham and after a meal or two, make pea soup. I also like French onion and vegetable soup. Enjoy your guests.
That first photo is just stunning! So beautiful! I also like the picture of the steps. I made a roast yesterday and it cooked sloooooooowly and the delicious armoas drifted all throughout the house. Enjoy your company that is coming!
OH Honey Bee...you are a gem!
getting the proteins prepared ahead is great advice!
Feeling sleepy now and I have eaten a wee bit too many WW points tonight...
Feeling cooler here...hope that you are comfortable.
Our rains will come and they will be relentless..
It is a journey...would love to be in your neck of the woods....just once and walkabout. Keep your eye on the goal...congrats!
OOH! seriously feeling for you...too hot is not fun.
It does work....I m trying to whittle a few pounds too....stay tuned!
Good luck...keep positive thoughts and hope you succeed.
Oh the rain does try to deter us from walking...buy a waterproof coat.
I just did ...
Wow! FOUR pairs of Jeans!
You are totally impressing me...I have been eyeing walking attire...think I found a jacket! But you are way ahead of me!
Having new exercise clothes keeps one motivated I think. Gorgeous photos - you live in a truly beautiful place.
You are right about new fitness wear...it does help to keep us motivated.
I purchased a new walking jacket by Columbia which I will enjoy wearing and will try to snap a picture of it and post it here on the blog...
Beautiful photos, L. The light on the water is enchanting. It is getting chilly, though - our thermometer read 7 degrees this morning. Brrr. But the sun soon warms things up.
Enchanted April is one of my favourite books, too, and I've seen the movie just once. Another book, about another month, based on the same idea would be great. I'll look for it.
I'm finding that with the stress of beginning another teaching year my weight is not dropping as quickly as I'd hoped. But at least it's stable. Your posts are always motivating! Have a great weekend.
I love The Enchanted April. I had an Enchanted April party once. I'm on the west coast of Ireland right now. My LL Bean clothes are working well for me. I'm trying to eat healthfully but we are enjoying a lot of wine. Fitness wear is an inspiration. We're off to Belfast tomorrow.
Four pairs!! I find Per Una jeans fit well. Have you tried Betty Barclay jeans? More expensive but a good fit.
Beautiful photos! I love your blue stairs!
How cold (or warm) is it exactly?
We have this weekend still around 30°C,it is sunny and beautiful but nights are chilly
I'm sad because days are shorter and I would miss my summer wardrobe, but hope to have beautiful September with lower temperatures. This summer was very weird, first cold and than too hot

Yes, four pairs of jeans, but they aren't expensive ones, around £35 a pair. No, Marilyn, not tried Berry Barclay ... I think there's a BB outlet in a local dept store, so I will check those out next time I'm there.
It is my birthday today and elder son and his fiancée bought me a lovely pale grey cotton ribbed V-neck jumper, a very pale silver grey (by Crew Clothing - not the American company J Crew) and it fits perfectly and looks lovely with black jeans or indigo jeans and silver jewellery, and my Crew Clothing silk chiffon scarves.
(Younger son and his partner bought me some lovely packs of narcissus, just what I wanted, too!)

Such beautiful pictures ... especially the first one. I wish I could experience the walk you do each day ...I love walking by the sea and I imagine how it must change with the seasons.
Glad to hear ... and see! how your healthy eating is working out ...mine too :)
Hope you're having an enjoyable weekend.
Rosie
The stairs photograph as blue but they are a slate shade...the temperatures have been under 20 most days...today it is 17.
Oh we had house guests and the food was over the top...also wine every evening so I am not going to step on the scale at all today!!
